Is a 9-day too long? What was your experience?

Recommended Posts

DH and I are currently booked on a 9-day cruise on Navigator in March 2012. DH's longest cruise so far was a 5-day and it had no consecutive sea days. I am a little worried 9 days might be too long for him?

I could switch to a similar 8-day itinerary (it is almost exactly the same except it skips St Thomas) and save $400 total. How much difference does one day make?

What is everyone's experience when going for a longer cruise for the first time? Did you get a little cabin stirred? :p

The longest the better for us! Did a 14 night and could have stayed another week or two!

Our last cruise was a 10 day Southern Caribbean, and it was wonderful. It spoiled me. I am scared that our upcoming 7 day cruise will seem to short! I would say it really is going to depend on the personalities of those going on the cruise, as each person is different. My wife feels the same about cruises as your husband. She'll go on a cruise, but she stays on the ship and would rather just be at a pool all day and not have to deal with the motion and the crowds. Me - I am looking at a 15 day TA!!

I have done both 7 and 9 day cruises. Could not imagine doing 7 days. Those extra two days are so nice, specifically, EOS out of Bayonne, those two sea days coming back were so relaxing ....... AAAAAAAH, so nice.

Funny

I wish EOS would do more 7 days in winter other then the holiday cruises. We can be away from our business for a week but not 10 days.:(

Other then that, I agree, the longer you can be away the better!!!:D

I'd do the 9 day. The first 2 sea days give you time to explore the ship before you do a lot of ports right in a row. Labadee is really a sea-day at the beach and then the last sea day is used for packing etc.

I will admit 2 sea days in a row is all I can handle. 3 sea days and I'm pacing the deck waiting for the next port day.

Which ever you pick I know you'll have fun.

I'm doing my first 10 night cruise in January and I'm really looking forward to it. I like the fact that out of the 5 sea days in total, 3 of them are the last days of the cruise; Gives me time to unwind and really relax before having to go back to the real world.

I'm scared that once I do this cruise, I won't be able to do anything less than 10 nights! LOL I have a 7 night booked on the Allure in September and I think they might have to drag me off that ship.

9 days is not long enough:eek:. We love the longer cruises. My DH is not a sit still sort of guy and even he prefers the longer cruises.

I agree. I have done 2 14 night cruises now and I love them. I don't have any long ones for 2012, but I will be doing another Transatlantic in 2013.

On our third cruise - our first 7 nighter - we took our college-age daughters and they thought 7 nights was too long for their first cruise. However, I attibute that to their age and we were traveling with about 30 people our age.

Our longest was B2B for 28 days and we were not ready to disembark. Last year we did a B2B2B and we loved it except that they served the same food on each cruise. Thank goodness for Vintages and the Windjammer.

We could easily be the retirees who choose to live on a cruise ship rather than on land. But we've known others who really don't like to cruise so it's a matter of personal taste.

Good luck.

We can't do more than 7 due to work schedule but DH and I have agreed once it is doable, we will be doing longer cruises. Then again, we are the ones who book during hurricane season and have no issues if our cruise turns into a cruise to no where. We have 3 kids 7 and under and they don't even get bored on sea days..much to see and do on the cruise or just sit on the balcony and watch the water go by..ahhh. Just an FYI our kids don't even spend a lot of time at the water park, maybe 3 hours for an entire cruise, but would live in the kids program if we allowed. They also enjoy sitting on the balcony and having their "drinks" and just walking around and people watching, finding a place to sit and listen to music/dance, o and don't forget the putt putt golf..wish we were leaving again tomorrow. Yes we are a family of 5 who are ALL cruise addicts, even our 4 year olds say they enjoy cruising better than Disney World

We did a 10 night Med cruise and with the travel day on each end, I was a bit homesick and ready to go home. Maybe because we were so far from home, I'm not sure.

We had an incident on our Oasis cruise which caused them to cancel St. Thomas and have another sea day and 3 sea days in a row were probably my limit. I do like the ports!

For me, it very much depends on the ports and how many days at sea. 14 nights was perfect for our mediterranean cruise. We did a 9-nighter going to Panama, Costa Rica, etc., but 7 nights is enough for me and DH when we do the islands. When we have a "short" cruise, we always spend a few days before and after the cruise near the port so it's a longer vacation. That avoids my post-cruise depression. Too many days at sea are also "dangerous" for me as I love the slots and spend way too much time in the casino, especially if the weather isn't nice enough to be outside.

Our first cruise was 7 days and we liked it so much we booked a 9-day repo on the Explorer out of NJ with 6 sea days! There was so much to do on the ship, we were never bored.

So, our next cruise was 14 days to Alaska. The ship was a little smaller (Serenade) and I did miss some of the activities on sea days but never got bored- it was just nice to relax in between busy port days.

Next year we have a 16-day TA with 4 sea days in a row, so we will see how that goes.

I say try it. Bring a good book. Don't forget the card room. Get caught up on sleep or hit the gym. There should be something for you and your husband to do with all those extra days. ;)

Cheers,

We think 9 days is too short, personally. We prefer not to do anything less than 10 days and look for longer whenever possible.

You figure, the first day and the last day you don't get to enjoy as much, and then we have travel days tacked on either end so we want to make the actual trip part worthwhile and relaxing!

I've sailed on 5, 6 ,7, 10, 11, 12, and 14 night voyages. A twelve nighter is my favorite because it's long enough to lose track of the day of the week.... and I can get everything into one large suitcase.:D A fourteen nighter means I usually have to add another bag.:( Anything less than 7 nights requires only my 21 inch carry-on, but never seems to be long enough.;) I think you might enjoy the longer cruise, but you won't know until you give it a try. Go and enjoy!:)
