Not that i will try... but makes you wonder what would happen if you did smoke then showed them the print out of smoking being allowed in your stateroom an balcony?? LOL

Cant have 2 sets of rules can you?

shazz

The Passage Contract, which everyone must agree to, specifically prohibits smoking in cabins and on balconies, no matter what any other document says.

Anyone else notice this discrepancy in the Princess Cruise Answer Book?

On page 21 of 33 (pdf version) in the "Onboard" section under "Onboard Experience" and "Smoking Policy - Stateroom Smoking Policy Update" it states that as of January 15, 2012, Princess prohibits smoking in staterooms and on balconies. HOWEVER, on the previous page in the same "Onboard" section under "Onboard Atmosphere," the third bullet still says that smoking is allowed in staterooms and stateroom balconies.

You'd think that after a year they'd have their act together and not post conflicting information in their own publications!!!

The bolded part above is an update. They added it to the pdf. When they update the whole pdf, there won't be any confusion. As IECalCruiser stated the passenger contract is the definitive and final contract.

I wouldn't hang my hat on that but I agree that for an important rule change as this, they should have updated all of their publications in their entirety to maintain consistency.

Just back from Golden LA to Hawaii Feb 13th. Smoking sections were:

Lido port side beside open pool, about 8-10 large tables

Deck 15 beside bar, about 3 or 4 large tables

Promenade starboard side

Small section just inside casino (3 non smoking nights)

Sports bar on deck 6

Also noticed there are now small stickers on the balcony door stating not to leave door open, and that smoking in cabins and balconies is not allowed.

One couple at our dinning table had been sneaking a few on the balcony and had a complaint from a few balconies down. They were given a warning, so it looks like they do/might give a warning before a fine. Seems fair to me.

Found out that smokers are not supposed to be hanging a cigarette over Promenade railling or any other railing and not supposed to flick ashes overboard either. On our recent CB sailing had this happening, also another smoking section was on Deck 15 and up in the aft, we were on Deck 12 GS suite and smokers flicking ashes onto our balcony from wee early hrs to late hrs. There are burn marks on the balcony floor as well. Smoke also billowed back in under the covered area on our balcony. The smoking recepticles were hanging on the railing overlooking the wake on deck 15. Hopefully Princess will remove them from this deck as the OS and a PH are next to the GS. on deck 12, from Decks 15 and up on the aft you can see onto the deck 12 balconies. Yes, I know in order to fill cabins smokers need to be accomodated. I understand the smoking sections are not currently uniform on every ship. Glad a warning was given first I too think that is fair.

BBUM, thanks for posting info. I cannot believe this, but am actually considering booking another Princess cruise (which I swore I was not going to do after our horrible experience on the Island Princess this month and did not bother to but a FCC). So at any rate, can someone give RECENT info on smoking areas on the Star Princess?

Thanks,

Tammy

On the Coral up top above pool area all the way almost to the back 3 tables in a very windy area!!!! Smoking Lounge on deck 7 (forgot the name of it) and Deck 7. Casino in the corner except formal nites then it is non smoking. We do not book a balcony for the same reason they should have so many balconies even if toward the back of the ship for smokers!!!

On the Emerald Princess, smoking is on the starboard side of the Promenade but the port side of the Terrace Deck, the Lido Deck and the Sun Deck. And, of course, the cigar bar and casino. They really need to step up the ventilation in the casino...the smoke has ruined Deck 6 in the Piazza and makes it very difficult to even be at the PSD if one has breathing issues.

Does anyone know if there is a smoking section on deck 14 or 15 above the grand suites on the aft of the Sapphire, Golden or Star? Thank you and sorry to hear about the atrium on the Emerald PescadoA. We may now rethink a 10 day on the Emerald. On the CB we only noticed cigarette smoke bad in atrium a few days. You are correct PescadoA. most ships in the atrium where the casino is off the atrium it is bad. Wonder how they will handle smoking on the new Royal?

The CB in January had a smoking section above the GS, cigarettes and ash all over balcony. Starboard side Promenade midship, casino, Churhills and aft decks 15 and above Port side.

OK - I've waded through all the pages on this thread and if anyone can answer this question I would appreciate it. Where on the Sapphire are the designated smoking areas? I have booked a PH suite on the Caribe deck port side for a California Coastal cruise. My husband smokes. We know he cannot smoke on the balcony and he says he is OK with that but I would like to know where he can go and smoke legitimately and hopefully without having to endure snide comments and glares from others.

Honestly, having read through this whole thread and seen some of the comments, I am tempted to cancel this booking - though we both love Princess, and check out another line where he won't be made to feel like a pariah. Holland America was mentioned as a line where he would be allowed to smoke on the balcony.

I completely understand the stance of people who have paid for balconies and are bothered by smoke from adjoining spaces, they paid for a balcony and should be able to enjoy it, but we are paying for a balcony also and cannot enjoy it to the fullest because of this policy. I often wonder if overall people were more considerate (on both sides of the issue) and less inclined to the "my way or find another cruiseline" approach a more reasonable compromise could have been reached.

That all being said - he'll go where he can smoke, I'll look into e-cigarettes and we will see how it goes. If it proves to be too cumbersome then this will be our last Princess cruise, which would be too bad.

I completely agree with you. As far as the Sapphire is concerned, you can smoke in Churchill's which is the cigar bar, the casino (they have a very nice sitting section for smokers), one side of the Lido deck, one side of the Promenade deck and not too sure about this but possibly one side of the aft terrace pool.

The Sapphire is a beautiful ship. Enjoy, as will I!

I have the same question about Coral Princess. We will be on for two weeks beginning April 20th.

I've read some of the recent posts but stopped after 3 pages...

Just booked an April 2014 Coral Panama Canal (partial transit) cruise and the booking confirmation documents say Churchill's is still available for cigar smoking on select ships. A recent guest on the Coral confirmed that to be the case for that ship. Anyone have any input on this topic - is cigar smoking allowed in Churchill's and any other open deck locations?

We're Carnival cruisers and they've started making their cigar bars cigar-free and moving cigar smokers to a smaller bar on their ships.

Yes, that's what I was told, there are Churchill cigar bars on select ships and I know that Coral has one. I was concerned that they were following suit with Carnival and moving cigar folks to a smaller venue but sounds like we're still ok for the time being.

Thanks

How are the balconies on the Crown Princess, port side, Aloha deck, and toward mid ship? Is there any detectable cigarrette odor? We have not cruised since the policy change and are wondering if we should switch to a starboard balcony.

That's a good question JB OceanFun. I also would like to know.

Hello, If you read the passage contract e-sigs are not allowed on balconies or inside the ship and if smoking one and a passenger complains it will (per contract) or can lead to a fine. Just be aware.

Norweign, Royal Caribbean, Holland and Seabourn still allow smoking on balconies and some of the lines in rooms. Good luck!

All I see in the passenger contract is verbiage prohibiting e-cigarettes I the dining areas and the Primces theater, no mention of balconies..can anyone else point me in a different direction?

As far as I know and have read E-cigs are allowed per the passenger contract as stated:

Indoor areas onboard the vessels are non-smoking and smoking is only permitted in designated sections. Outdoor smoking areas are clearly posted throughout the vessel. Smoking is prohibited in Passenger staterooms and balconies. Violations to the onboard smoking policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to Your stateroom account. Repeated violations may result in You being disembarked prior to the end of the Cruise without any refund. The use of electronic cigarettes is never permitted in dining areas or in the Princess Theatre.

Electronic Cigarettes

The use of electronic cigarettes is permitted in all areas onboard with the exception of dining areas and the Princess Theater. However, should a fellow passenger in the vicinity feel inconvenienced and complain, even after being told the difference between electronic cigarettes and real cigarettes, we will ask the passenger to refrain from smoking the electronic cigarette.
