No smoking on formal nights? Thank you for that info. I will get in some time at the casino after all on my upcoming Ruby Princess cruise if they do the same.

True that on formal nights there is no smoking in the casino (at least till 11 or 12 midnight) but the tobacco smell still lingers from previous nights and that very afternoon. It all depends on how tolerant you are to the smell if you'll enjoy it or not.

This may vary by ship and cruising population. I didn't notice any cigarette smell in the casino on non-smoking nights on the Sapphire Princess. But there weren't a lot of smokers on that cruise, at least the smoking area of the casino wasn't heavily populated on smoking nights - so there may have been less carrryover to non-smoking nights.

It could be - Different ship different amount of smoke. We're pretty sensitive to smoke to begin with and that may be the answer. We pretty much avoid the casino anyway unless were forced to walk through it to get somewhere quickly.

On a different note -We had 5 free coupons to use the new machine (I forgot what they call it) they've installed on their ships and it was hard for us to find a time to use it without being bothered with the smell. After the end of the cruise we found out that it was open 24 hours a day & we could have used it at 7 in the morning when there was no one around.

I found the same to be true on the Caribbean Princess on my last cruise. There didn't seem to be much of a smoking odor. I think their ventilation system or cleaning system is working well.:)

On the cruise we just debarked this morning (CB), they had no smoking in the casino on both formal nights, as well as the last night. Three nights one could breathe in there without second hand smoke. Granted, on the other nights, it was not too busy in there anyway, and I did not have a problem with it like I have on some ships.

I understand that down the road they are considering adding a fourth non-smoking night. That's the right direction!

Very true. If you are sensitive to smoke, you will smell it as soon as the elevator doors open on Deck 6 at the Piazza. In fact, by the end of the cruise, you could actually smell smoke in the elevator lobby on deck 14.... not in the hallways, just in the elevator lobby, which lends one to think it was wafting up the elevator shafts from the casino! Hence, even on non-smoking nights in the casino, you will smell smoke. Not bashing smokers; just stating an observation, for those who are sensitive, that the residual smell of smoke does stay in the carpeting and upholstery (at least on our cruise it did.)

I was on the Ruby Princess last week and was generally pleased with the changed smoking policy. It has really improved the indoor air quality. However could still not use the casino even though there are now three non smoking nights because of the smell was still bad and ingrained. Also smoke from the casino seeped into the passenger services area.

There was some smoking on the CB 12/22-29 in the casino, although there were at least two nights there that I know of that did not allow smoking. Churchills, and the area adjacent (the foyer for the theater entrance on 6) was smoke central - yechh!

One violation from a selfish smoker occurred in Skywalkers during a Plat/Elite cocktail hour - she apparently sat off by herself near a family table and proceeded to stink out the whole place. No wonder there's a no-smoking policy - it pollutes the entire area.

I've read thru the posts and I"m sure it is out there, but i can't find it. Where on the CB can you smoke? Is there a site that shows the locations on the deck plans?

No such site... Skywalkers, sometimes, then the Lido deck, one side only... There is the cigar bar as well, and you can also smoke on one side of the Promenade deck.

We are going to be towards the Aft on the Aloha deck. Form what you said, we should be able to walk up 2 flights to Lido and smoke on the back/side of the deck. Can anyone confirm? Is it clearly marked or should I ask a worker?

You will see ash trays on the port side of the deck, outside the Horizon Court.

Not sure about Caribbean Princess but on Ruby Princess in December smoking areas had changed since our last cruise. On Ruby, smoking was limited to Tradewinds Bar, On the Sun deck oustide of Adagio/Sabitini's (no longer around aft pool), Speakeasy cigar lounge and one area on the Promenade deck outside of Club Fusion but sorry don't remember if port of starboard. There are no longer any smoking areas on the Lido deck.

Yes, things have been changing over the last year, our first two cruises after the BIG change last year were absolutely fine on the Saphire Princess. But we just got off the Island Princess and all I can say is - be very wary smokers - things are changing by the day. On the Island we were also not allowed to smoke anywhere on the Lido Deck, we were a bunch of second class citizens up on 15 with little to no protection from the elements. My family (5 of 6 smokers) were very unhappy with the smoking situation on this cruise (as were most of the other smokers).

I could go on and on - but won't. Yes, there was always Churchills - which was out of control and you could hardly breath in there (especially when all the cuban cigars came on board). There were times Churchills was standing room only - just disgusting. And the Casino - give me a break, yes there were a few tables in the smoking section, but in the morning all the ashtrays were gone. The casino has it's own rules and chose to have back to back no smoking nights.

And the promenade deck - there was a small section at the back of the starboard side where you could stand by an ashtray on the wall - no more standing ashtrays out there. At any rate, just wanted to warn the smokers out there. Smokers, please keep posting Your experiences so people can make informed decisions.

Princess - if you're reading this - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have some sort of standard smoking policy - FLEETWIDE!

Oh, just to re-inforce what I am saying to smokers. I just read a very recent review of the Grand Princess where someone booked a cabin on the Lido deck (not inexpensive - ya know) to be near the smoking area and guess what - NO SMOKING on the Lido.

Shame on you Princess!!!!!!

Anyone else notice this discrepancy in the Princess Cruise Answer Book?

On page 21 of 33 (pdf version) in the "Onboard" section under "Onboard Experience" and "Smoking Policy - Stateroom Smoking Policy Update" it states that as of January 15, 2012, Princess prohibits smoking in staterooms and on balconies. HOWEVER, on the previous page in the same "Onboard" section under "Onboard Atmosphere," the third bullet still says that smoking is allowed in staterooms and stateroom balconies.

You'd think that after a year they'd have their act together and not post conflicting information in their own publications!!!
