My 1st Trip to the "Naughty" Room--FOS

Recommended Posts

We just got off the NOS and they were taking all liquids even water. We had our bag held by security and we couldn't figure out why they took it since we didn't try to smuggle on anything. They accused us of having alcohol in it and insisted on searching it. Of course, they found nothing. The only thing we could figure out is that we had a bottle of sun screen. Oh, and they didn't apologize either.

Thanks for that update - seems like anything in the bottle type shape they are checking out.

According to an official RCCL book of cruises for 2012, the guidelines published in the back say that you cannot bring alcohol aboard, however sealed water and soda containers were permissable--on one of the back pages in fine print. After all the conversation here, I was surprised to see this! I think obvious is the best choice for a small case of water bottles--put them in a canvas or heavy plastic bag and put a luggage label on them. Sounds like they really ramped up for spring break and/or incidences of folks being pretty obvious about drinking their own.

...And who put you at the "naughty room"?????.....You and your action did!!.....You will report to detention every day after school until you pay your debt to society (and Crown and Anchor).......Now go and see Sister Mary Ruinyourcruise and she will punish you more......

....oh that's right....you are an adult. too bad they don't treat you as such.......sorry:(

But doesn't being an adult mean abiding by the rules? You choose to ignore them, so they punish you just as they would a child who ignores rules about candy between meals. Nothing severe, doesnt ruin your vacation, just a momentary hiccup.

As for those who say they need it for "medical" or other reasons, get a doctors note and you would be fine. The water is fine onboard ships, it doesnt make you bloat any more than water ashore, most bottled water is desalinated. That just means made from seawater. The thing that probably makes you bloat on ship is the added salt in all the food.

The best smuggling job I've ever seen was a girl on one of my Carnival cruises who took an 8 pack of water and emptied three of them, replaced them with water, then managed to re-seal the caps and shrink wrapped the whole thing. It looked straight off the shelf! You couldn't tell it was tampered with at all. I, however, am too lazy for anything like this. I'd rather just buy my booze then deal with that hassle!

 Lot of work to refill them with water, LOL;)

Deck #1? Before the ship got underway or after.

I'm gonna have to wander down there and see this circus for myself. Sounds entertaining.

Anyone stops me I'm just wandering checking out the ship and got lost.

No one will stop you – and it is one of the best shows on the ship!. I had to go to Security on a December Jewel cruise to identity our suitcase and remove a bottle of wine. The process was well coordinated, long but painless and the staff were very professional and courteous. The next sailing I suggested to my husband ( he had not been to security with me) that we go watch “ The Show” Amazing to see how much booze people try to bring on board.

Enjoy M

No need to lock the booze in the safe. But we do keep it out of sight. Certainly wouldn't want to get the cabin attendant in trouble. Most likely they are supposed to report violations if they observe liquor in the stateroom. But I don't think that they would logically want to do that with a gratuity expected at the end of the trip. But why leave it out in the open where they would have that dilemma? I believe a Bar Service person also enters your cabin to check on mini-fridge items. That person might not hesitate to report a violation.

On a recent Monarch sailing, the cabin attendant and supervisor came to our cabin, unannounced. We were there at the time. The supervisor handed us his card and told us he was doing a random inspection of cabins. He never came in, but looked “behind us” to get a glance around, then asked if we needed anything and left.

If you have any “contraband,” it is best not left out in the open.

What I meant was that if an adult wanted to bring with them a couple cans of soda they should let them. Liquour I can understand that the cruise line makes alot of money on that..but soda and water?...DCL "gives" soda away.(I know they include the cost in the overall cruise price). It is ironic that Disney lets adults carry on any beverage that they choose. The "kids" line treats you like an adult and allow you to decide what you wish to drink on your adult vacation. It does give you another choice of beverage especially considering the limited wine selection offered by RCCL. Just for the record I always abide by the standing policies on which ever line I am cruising. You won't see me in the naughty room line.;) But have to admit some policies are a little Goofy IMHO.

While I have never tried to smuggle adult drinks on board any cruise. Over my last 7 RCCL cruises and 1 HAL cruise I did not bring any drinks at all on board.

When I sailed Carnival in January I wanted to bring a couple of bottles of water and a 8-pack of 8oz Diet Cokes aboard. I put all of that in my carry-on that I took with me during check-in. No drinks in checked luggage. Well my carry-on wen through the scanner then I had to have it checked before I moved passed security at the port. The port security checked the water bottles in case they were filled with Vodka. After the check they gave me the water back and I was on my way. I did have a glance in the room with confiscated liquides and there was a lot there.

If I ever bring sodas/water with me it will always be with my carry-on.

I was called down to the naughty room on enchanment for having a screw driver in my checked bag. I had no idea what they were talking about when I opened my bag it was a waiter's style cork screw which I had forgotten when I was on a prior cruise that allowed wine.

Okay....Question here. There are 2 topics that really create a stir here. Smuggling of alcohol and jeans in the MDR especially on formal night. I really don't expect any replies, but how many of you who smuggle a little booze on board also flame those who wear jeans to the MDR on formal night stating they should abide by the rules.

Just wondering.

Don't smuggle booze. don't wear jeans in MDR. Now, so as not to sound obnoxious (the first two lines could be misinterpreted). I never wear jeans, so not going to the MDR in jeans is not such an accomplishment for me. And, I would smuggle booze on board, it's just that I am such a wuss, I'd be mortified if I were caught. :)

Just back from the Liberty and we got to go to the "Naughty Room" too. We carried on a 12 pack of soda, but checked a small cooler with some apple juice and a couple bottles of water that I picked up just because they were on sale at CVS when I stopped. The held all of our luggage, no one could figure out why not just the cooler. The were also amused to find that our kids backpacks actually contained school books. Turned out they were right, they didn't need those. lol.

Just off the FOS (3/11/12) and thought I'd share my first trip to the Naughty Room. Although we were onboard my 11:15 am, our luggage arrived much later than we have experienced before. Don't think it was a security problem, no one on our hallway received it for hours. When it finally arrived we noticed one small duffel bag missing. The same for friends travelling with us and in cabin beside ours. Our cabin attendant phoned me and explained security had my bag and I was the only one who could open it. Not real concerned because there was no alcohol in that bag, but water bottles (2) and a 12-pack of Diet Cokes. Another small bag was delivered to our room with 3 water bottles and a 12-pack of soda inside.

I went to Deck 1 (as told) and there was luggage everywhere! Down hallways, under stairs, etc. Some people were very irate and yelling. I went to one of the tables set up (1 screaming man there already and another man came in behind me in good humor) and was escorted by security to the various areas to find my bag. Immediately, the security guy said to me, "We have found alcohol in your bag." I told him there was no alcohol in my bag (I almost said there is no alcohol in that bag.) He asked if there were liquids in that bag and I replied yes--water bottles and soda cans. I opened the bag, handed him the 2 water bottles, he checked the cap seal, and handed them back to me. He was not interested in the soda carton (in plain sight) nor the toiletries bags. I zipped everything up and headed to the elevators.

While waiting for the elevator, there were other security personnel having passengers open their bags. I observed rum runners being taken. I wondered if something else triggered the bag being held. Thought rum runners were undetectable. Also witnessed someone's 6-pack of water being taken. This man had a different uniform than the other security personnel--ship's officer??? The woman was mad and yelling "I always bring a few bottles of water on." The man looked at me and asked "Did you have liquids?" I politely replied, "Yes, two water bottles." He then said in a very stern and loud voice, "Did they take them?" And I politely lied and said yes. It wasn't so much that I had to have those 2 water bottles. I didn't want to get the security guy with me in trouble. I then knocked down two people to get on the elevator. (Not really)

Two others on the elevator with me--a young lady who had 3 bottles of wine confiscated (to be returned at the end of cruise) and the gentleman that came in behind me while waiting at the table initially. He said he still had 9 bottles of champagne in his suitcase. When asked how he managed that, he said I saw my suitcase and I just took it. I think what he did was follow me and my security escort as if he were with me. Then he just took his bag as if it had already been searched. He was always near me in the area and no one was in the area without a security person. Smart guy!

When I returned to our cabin, I had a recorded message on the phone saying that they had found alcohol in my luggage. My friend in the next cabin still did not have his bag. After dinner we went back to the naughty room. The first thing said to him was "We have found alcohol in your luggage." He replied politely, "No, sir, there are water bottles, but there is no alcohol." They examined the shrink-wrapped 6-pack of water, handed it back, and let us go.

I think security's stating we have found alcohol is a tactic and I guess they think a person will say Yes, yes, and I'm so sorry. My advice is if you are carrying rum runners, don't put anything else that may be suspicious in the same bag.

Overall, going to the Naughty Room, was no big deal, just a shipboard experience. Be polite--they are just doing their job. No use starting your vacation being upset. If you smuggle (and I knew that water and sodas were not allowed), be aware that they may be taken. BTW, the Frozen Lemonade w/ vodka drink is absolutely delicious. I had one just about every day. Also the On-Air Bar had BOGO Margaritas every day between 4:30-7:30. We also took advantage of that offrer many times. Two drinks for $7.15 (including their gratuity) was a deal.

This was one of the funniest threads we have read! Some people missed the funny content. You have given us some ideas for our trips in the future.

Just a thought...Maybe they are being a bit more careful this month with the college spring breakers...So, I plan on doing what we do...bring a case of water with a luggage tag on it..if it gets taken away, oh well, its only 5 bucks, but if you get to keep it...score! Just my take...5 days til liberty!!

we were recently on the Monarch for the weekend cruise (possibly the start of spring break season) and we heard someone ask the bar waiter around the pool for a bucket of beers - his reply 'not this weekend - spring break'....

thought that was interesting. Not that at any other point alcoholic drinks could be bought and shared with minors, but I supposed a bucket of beers would just be more available ?!?!

Sounds like boarding school or summer camp. Maybe band camp.

As I mentioned, I am sensitive to the desalinated water (wasn't when I was younger - oh, well) and I drink 3-4 bottles of water a day. at $2.50 a pop, that's $10 a day to drink water. That's why I bring it, not sneak it on. Others have preferences for sodas that are not carried by the cruise line (e.g. diet root beer, etc).
I hear you. seems like you have a legit concern. however I'd say 99.9% of all the other reasons seem like something out a high school freshmen detention hand book. If bringing/sneaking diet sugar free dr. pepper or mellow yellow is that serious than I think it's probably time to rethink taking a cruise. same goes for the folks who are doing some of the ridiculous things I've read to get liquor on board. some of this stuff is so ridiculously childish it's funny. lol. hey to each his own I guess.

I think they regulate during Spring Break so the servers and bartenders can watch how drunk people are getting in an effort to avoid accidents. If you make people order single beers you can evaluate their condition after each drink. If you give them a bucket they could be dangerously drunk by the time they finish.
