Laundry Anyone??

Wondering if any RC cruisers use the ships laundry service. I never have but wondering if it might be a good idea for a 14+ trip? Anyone know the prices?? Thanks!

We've used the laundry service numerous times and have been very pleased. Here is the Laundry Service price schedule.

They will also offer a Special Wash & Fold Bag for $25 several times during a 14+ day cruise where you can include pajamas, socks, shorts, swimwear, t-shirts and underwear. Things come back folded not ironed.

We always send my husband's dress shirts out to be pressed on the first day. They do a good job at a reasonable price. One time on a longer cruise, I sent out a pair of my black jeans to be washed. They were new and I had only worn them a couple of times. They came back clean but very faded. Now I'll only use the laundry for pressing or dry cleaning.

Have used the bag special a few times and have been very pleased. We also get a coupon in our booklet so its a great deal for us. Sometimes I wash a few things in the sink if needed.

The drycleaning and pressing prices are so so great compared to what we have here. So if you need anything just pressed it is a great price.

I think another poster had a link to the prices.

Would they dryclean a wedding dress?

Would they? Maybe. Would I trust them? Never. I worked my way through college by working for a dry cleaner. Granted, it was a very long time ago but I remember a lot of special handling went into dealing with wedding gowns right down to the special blue paper they used to preserve them. You need a specialist.

I pack for about 7 days ( or even less) even if taking a longer cruise or a B2B and send many items out for laundry or dry cleaning. We have been pleased. We use the wash and fold bag special, but I believe the items are washed in hot water and that is an issue for some of my clothes. (They get tight enough - I certainly don’t need anything to shrink!)

The do a great job for dry cleaning. I spilled a FULL glass of red wine on white linen slacks and they were able to get the stain out and the slacks looked better than new.

I would barely trust most on-land dry cleaning places with a wedding dress - yet alone a ship's service.

If you value your wedding dress, there are services on land that will box or bag it in appropriate material to preserve it.

Me? I tossed my wedding dress in the back of a closet - eventually moved it in the basement - and then lost it. We moved 14 times - the dress didn't make it to our retirement home.

We use it all the time. We always use the wash and fold special bag at least once during the cruise. You can really stuff a lot of things in that bag if you try. I also get my capri's and our jeans washed and ironed. I ask them to use cold water so they don't fade. There is a spot on the form for special requests. My dh gets his suit dry cleaned on the ship because we don't live near a dry cleaner and the price is great.

Second cruisenfever~ We use it for over 7 days. Diamond book has a $10 coupon for wash and fold all-you-can-stuff plastic bag. First time we used it I thought my tidy-whities looked a little gray, last week everything looked great. Don't expect any fabric softener, but overall the service is good. Be aware you probably won't get your duds back the next day. Ours took almost two full days.

Enjoy your cruise.

Seems like the price was less than $25 but I have taken advantage of the wash and fold special on several longer cruises and it is the best deal and it minimizes the amount of clothing to pack!

I was on a twelve night cruise in Feb/March 2012. I used the ship's laundry service and was happy with the service and result.

Laundry service is fine. One thing to keep in mind, if you send them any clothes that already have a hole, or a tear or a stain on it, you are likely to get a call from the laundry letting you know that there is a problem with the clothes. We have had them not want to wash a pair of shorts that had a tear.

But, if anything happens, they are very good about repairing things. They have sewn on new buttons and fixed belt loops.

I usually just use them for the $25 bag for underwear and socks, but my partner uses them for everything

About how much "stuff" can you fit in a wash & fold bag? We have a B2B (2 x 7day) cruise coming up and are debating about paying baggage fees for an extra suitcase vs. getting some laundry done on board. I am thinking I can pack for maybe 10-11 days without bringing an extra suitcase. So for each of us we would need to get about 4 sets of underwear and socks, maybe 4 shirts and a few pairs of shorts laundered. Would that require one bag, two bags or maybe more? At three bags it is probably better to just bring an extra suitcase.

Be aware that the items come back very wrinkled. The shirts may not be wearable.

If you roll your stuff up tightly, you can get quite a few pairs of underwear and t-shirts and socks in the bag.

The trick is to roll stuff up and pack it tightly in the wash & fold bag. You should be able to easily fit in what you described.

Thanks for the great info. The only shirts I might use it for are t-shirts or polos so wrinkling should not be too big an issue. For a button down shirt I would probably use the wash & press service.

I am thinking we can get by without the third suitcase by using the laundry service.

We have always used the laundry service and have been very pleased. Since some of my blouses or slacks need cold water wash, I just specify the intire load be done in cold rather then separtate out a few items. Our cruises are 14 days long, so need the service, and also get things cleaned before going home then we can pack clean clothes which fit better in the suitcase.
