Thanks for the info. I may have to get a part time job to justify spending the extra bucks on the "tour" part. Oh well time will tell. :D

Or do what I did: plan your own! Don't stay in the $250+/night hotel with bad reviews - find a good B&B on an advisor site or a cabin on home away. Rent a car and do the things on *your* list, not the cruise lines.

Sailing on the Sun this October and have enjoyed reading this thread.

As the thread dates back over the past 12 months I was hoping someone could say if the information given is still current. For example :

Lots of great food choices in Sports Bar from 5.30pm to 5.30 am.

Pizza in Moderno during lunch time.

Java Cafe open 24 hours providing complimentary croissants & muffins in the morning, and cakes in the afternoon.

2 for 1's available every afternoon (? venue).

Coffee pot in balcony room.

Food aside :), one power point in balcony cabin

Thanks for what ever you can update.

Every reason to bump, I'm sailing Sun in a few days... doesn't get closer than this..

Please post a review as I am sailing over New Years. Sailed her back in 2004 I think when she was brand spankin new and not sure what to expect this time.

I enjoyed the Sun a lot. We had an inside cabin on deck 4 near the elevator and stairs. It was one flight up the stairs to the dining room and then one flight of stairs up to the theater.

Mom who had mobility issues took the elevator. Only one elevator came down to deck 4 which was no problem, but coming down from the theater she needed to be in the far right elevator.

That's my #1 tip for the Sun.

We liked the layout of our room. It had plenty of space for our group of four adult ladies.

My sister and I took our showers in the locker room. Tip #2.

You can get lobster any given night at some of Sun's specialty restaurants like Cagney's, Le Bistro (for additional $10 upcharge) and Tappanyaki

I have another Sun food question..

Aside from Moderno serving complimentary Italian fare for lunch on sea days...and the coffee shop serves complimentary muffins etc, any other specialty restaurants serving unique stuff either on breakfast or lunch during sea days that is accessible to non suite guests?

Any other other Sun related tips or hole in the walls suggestions are most welcome....

Some additional questions:

Do the Sun spa give complimentary trial back massages on embarkation day? RCCL do on all ships but not sure if NCL does the same.

Is the gym in the Sun fully equipped in terms of weight machines? As some cruise ship gyms has mostly free weights and just limited number of weight machines..

and lastly,

How extensive is the library aboard the Sun? So far for me HAL has the best library, while RCCL lacks a decent library it even on their biggest ships

Have sailed the Sun twice recently -- an 11 day last Nov. and a 10 day this past April. Loved her both times! A great ship with an outstanding crew!

Sprots Bar - yes on the all night food, great strawberry shortcake and some of the best wings you'll ever find, good paninnis too. Other than room service, the only place for late night food.

Moderno - breakfast buffet (often much less crowded than the main buffet) and lunch - not sure about the pizza since I ate at the Great Outdoors every chance I could. Great Outdoors often has pizza, esp. late night open till about midnight if I recall

Java Cafe - don't think it is 24 hours. I think there may be some free pastries, not sure, most of it you had to pay for, does have canollis

Drink specials of some kind everyday - will be listed in your daily navigator

Also, don't miss the free tapas in Las Ramblas in the evening - a fun Barcelona themed space, usually pretty quiet.

Hope y'all have a great cruise. Please let me know where to currently find lobster. Thanks! :)

In the MDR lobster is only served the first night! Surf/Turf plate with great steak. Many people skip the MDR on night one so it's a cost cutting measure. You can request as many plates as you want. My teen son had 4!

We had an inside cabin both times -- both very spacious and well thought out in terms of storage. 2nd time we paid a little more for a "family inside" that can sleep up to 5 people - extra spacious with 2 closets and tons of storage!

Other tips - crepes in the buffet starting at aprx 5:30, limited buffet in the Great Outdoors at all meals - less to chose from BUT much shorter lines, soft serve ice cream at Great Outdoors and sundae station -- most people don't know about it, the line in the main buffet for ice cream gets really long, Observation Lounge is a Wonderful space, esp. if you want some quiet and to get out of the Sun for awhile - nice decor and gorgeous views!, The Bacharach show is pretty bad -- not worth going to, the other cast member shows are all good as are many of the specialty shows. Hypnotist Terrance B is hilarious (but don't volunteer to be hypnotized if you are easily embarrassed). SKip the ships tours to save money, most can be booked in port for much less $$ - we would usually just hire a taxi driver to do a private tour for our group of 4 - much cheaper and more fun! If you need/want something ask - the crew will go out of their way to please you if possible. Sign up for the lottery for the officers dinner. It's great.

The piano bar - deck 13 - port side aft - has daily Tapas bar and is a pleasant place for a drink and chat with friends. The Italian restaurant is one of the best locations on any NCL ship and well worth the supplement. Sea views from every table.

The Sun is our favorite ship on the line.

Yes, to free trial massage in the spa, not just on embarkation day but throughout the cruise, just look for the spa workers in the hallway outside the spa or sometimes offering free chair massage on the pool deck, also on embarkation day - there is a spa raffle where they give away various products and services.

Library - decent size, didn't use so can't speak to selection, nice reading/card playing room off library.

Casino - free rum punch and gaming lessons on either embarkation or 1st day. Late night (small) buffet is open to all guests not just those using the casino.

Free drinks and appetizers during Latitudes reception.

Yes, only one power outlet in most cabins so bring multi-plug adaptor or extension cord.

Sheesh - this is making wish we had another cruise booked! Have fun!

This is what I was expecting and experienced on the Epic back in November. Then, many people reported lobster being taken out of the MDR and put onto the buffet on the second night (on different ships). Then others reported the buffet having headaches with lines and so lobster returned back to the MDR on night 1. I did start a thread about this a while back but never got an answer as to what is happening on the Sun. I know some specialty restaurants have lobster but I won't be going to any of them (we are just going to La Cucina and Modernos). So if anyone was recently on the Sun (or going in the near future), please advise whether the lobster is still in the MDR or made it's way to the buffet. I LOVE lobster but the only time I eat it is on cruise ships.......it's kind of my tradition.

Where do you sign up for the lottery for dinner with the officers? I have not heard of this and it would be cool to win.

I have been on the Norwegian sun 4 times. The Seven Seas (aft main restaurant) and the Four Seasons are the two main restaurants that are included in the fare. Both are excellent. Le Bistro (French) restaurant is excellent also but there is charge for eating there. Another charge restaurant is the Italian which is very good also. Hope this helps.

We have had dinner with the officers on the Star and on the Jade. We signed up at the Guest Services desk and received an invitation a day the day before. Our officers were the HR Manager, Guest Services Manager, Asst. Guest Services Manager and Food and Beverage Manager. We enjoyed both dinners. I don't know if they offer this on the Sun. I hope so. I have also read that on some ships, those that sign in at the CC Meet & Greet have been invited to dine with officers.

We were on the June 9th Sun sailing. We enjoyed the tapas in Las Ramblas. Was surprised how quiet it was there every evening when we went to get some. My wife loved the olives. Two of the evenings we were by ourselves for awhile. The wine tasting sessions were also held in Las Ramblas

Lobster was on the first night in the MDRs.

We found it too chilly for breakfast out back, and all other areas were pretty crowded, including Moderno. We usually sat at the bar area in the Sports Bar. On the mornings when the World Cup was on, that was fine by me!

Lottery signup was at Guest Services.

We found it interesting that there looked to be space available for the Chef's Table for the 1st couple of days.

We never upgraded to specialty dining, and mainly ate in the Seven Seas. Found the food portions and speed of service to be well done. Chocolate Night was fantastic!
