S.S.Oceanlover Posted July 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I just received an email from NCL about the Getaway. On the new ship they are going to have the stage show Legally Blonde following the direction of RCI and their stage shows. Do you think with Uncle Bobs input that CCL will reverse field and start adding these kinds of shows or do you think that they will continue to give playlist shows a few nights and the pax as entertainment? Bill I would like to see a couple more nights of shows, but I don't think I want to see an entire 2-3 hour Broadway show (like Legally Blonde you referenced). For us, anyway, that's too long when we're on a cruise -- too much else to do.
emelvee Posted July 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I was satisfied with the shows last week on Dream - we'll only go a few nights during a week's cruise, and ~1 hour or so is plenty with so many other things to do.

LittleJeanne Posted July 24, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2013 If they were a condensed version I think it would be a terrific idea. I really think that Carnival needs to up there game and put a little more into their shows. I'm not saying to go all the way back to what they were doing 20 or more years ago, but I'd love to see a return to better quality. Maybe some productions like this would help. Jimmy Geegitz Posted July 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I would like to see Bozo's Circus with Cookie the Clown and of course THE GRAND PRIZE GAME!!! I would hope to win a Schwinn fastback bicycle.
ready2cruzagain Posted July 24, 2013 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2013 If the production shows were like RCCL's and 90 minutes long that would be great! Honestly, the shows can't get any worse than the new shows that we seen on the Breeze! They were bad!
SkyMaster Posted July 24, 2013 #9 Share Posted July 24, 2013 I actually don't want to see "Broadway Shows", and especially condensed Broadway Shows when I'm aboard ship. Having said that, I too, am disappointed in the "Playlist Production" shows, and greatly prefer shows like they used to have aboard Carnival Ships. Give me a variety of shows, mixing in the "fly in" performers with the shows featuring 20 dancers, a couple of production singers, and a band of 10 or so musicians. :D Ah yes. Those were the "good ol' days". "SKY"

Sargent_Schultz Posted July 25, 2013 #13 Share Posted July 25, 2013 Dancing with the Stars at Sea seems to be popular on HAL. I doubt entertainment is in Uncle Bob's purview, however.

Bill Shows the last few years have really been bad. Im not really a show person but like to see what they have and the few we have been to we left I would like to see the comedians in a bigger venue not so packed and people fighting for seats. Carnival ,its busy for a reason!!! People like the comedy shows
loxley Posted July 25, 2013 #15 Share Posted July 25, 2013 That crap they call evening entertainment has me scratching my head. Does anyone really like it? I just kept asking myself what were they thinking. I was thinking about when coke changed to new coke. Al lthe coke people kept saying how they were receiving such positive feedback and after all these years they have finally admitted they knew they screwed up bad. I think Carnival has screwed up bad too.

Carnival ,its busy for a reason!!! People like the comedy shows I agree. With the comedians so popular and packed for almost every show, either add more comedy shows or move to bigger venue. From a cost perspective two comedians have to be more cost effective than 10 singers and dancers.
Seago2 Posted July 25, 2013 #18 Share Posted July 25, 2013 I would say that "nothing could be as bad as Divas last week" but I actually laughed so hard that tears were streaming down my face. I buried my head in my husband's shoulder and managed to eke out "how do we leave?" before I was seriously choking laughing and trying not to let it show. So that was a big hit for me. They would finish each number and the crowd, some of whom were standing up and dancing to the random music playing before, were absolutely silent. How can they lip synch and be off key at the same time? The screen behind them would have sent an epileptic overboard. 8 dancers in front of hundreds of brightly lit robotic dancers on screen.... So bad, so bad. It was a relief to move on to the "throw pencils on the floor and see how many you can pick up" entertainment the next day. Ugh, it was a great, great cruise but it's a good thing we brought 12 books for 12 days (and hate shows anyway).
BeachChik Posted July 25, 2013 #19 Share Posted July 25, 2013 Hope not, if I want to see broadway shows, I can go to Broadway. This type of comment always makes me scratch my head. What can you do on a cruise that you can't do elsewhere? Nothing. If I want a pool I know several people that have one. If I want to go to the beach I live very close and can go for the day. If i want to gamble i can go to a casino or vegas. The point of it being on a ship is to offer options for those that do like them and can't get to somewhere like NYC or Vegas to see a show. mas0764 Posted July 25, 2013 #21 Share Posted July 25, 2013 I don't particularly want to see Broadway shows. Maybe have a "Broadway night" and do a show like that once a cruise. I'd prefer to see more like "Dinner club" or "Copa Cabana" type entertainment. Stand up host, big band music (probably can't have a full live band though), dancers, variety show. Think like, all those clubs that mobsters go to in the movies in the 1960s with their girlfriends.

Honestly, the shows can't get any worse than the new shows that we seen on the Breeze! They were bad! They had shows on the Breeze? ;) Never stepped foot in any lounge/showroom on that ship. Other than comedy, Carnival does not really offer anything which interests us. Here's a template of what's offered on our Breakaway sailing in September. The two things on there that have a cost associated with them are lunch and dinner shows. "Howl at the Moon" is a dueling piano bar, "Fat Cat's" is a top notch blues/jazz guitarist (Slam Allen). The production (Broadway) show is a 75 minute abbreviated version of Rock of Ages. Just like on the Epic, I don't think we'll have a hard time finding things to do! ;) Tom
CarnivalCruising Posted July 25, 2013 #23 Share Posted July 25, 2013 I was on The Carnival Breeze last week, and my only complaint was how the quality of the shows has declined. I didn't stay more than 10 minutes at the shows. There are 8 singers, 4 men and 4 women. Only 2 could sing, and the rest were always off key.
