What would you like to see in a New Celebrity "X" class ?

Clocks. At least a few! I like the idea of forgetting about time but sometimes I need to know the time for shows or dinner. A watch does not look good with my beaded gowns ;)

Maybe Solo cabins?

That way when you have odd numbers or a tough rooming situation there is a solution.

I just learned that NCL has these (although, IMO, they are so tacky looking! I think the decor they used is going to look dated in a year- reminds me of the purple Carnival Sensation)

A diamond Patek would go well with any gown.

Considering how many successful cruises these ships have made with no problems, to write them off as problem ships that are jeopardizing Celebrity's future is a bit over reacting. All ship designs occasionally have problems. In the last couple of weeks Princess and HAL have had problems with ships, and Carnival and RCI have had their share as well in recent months. Even the newest Celebrity ship, the Reflection with a completely different pod system, had propulsion issues that caused several cruises to be shortchanged just weeks after she was launched.

It happens to all of them, even the best. If you have ever had your car break down, you have experienced unexpected equipment failure. If you are so lucky as to never had to deal with a broken down car, somewhere along the way you have had something cancelled, cut short, or changed due to a malfunction, be it your telephone service, your internet service, a power failure in your neighborhood, a flight delayed, etc. No machine is completely immune from failure, so although unfortunate for current passengers, many, many more have had excellent cruises on board M class ships, myself included with flawless cruises on Constellation and Infinity.

Contrary to what you may want to believe, the sky is not falling.

Exactly.

For my idea, you would not need an entirely new ship, just an entirely new design for the pool lounge chairs. Follow me... at the beginning of the cruise there would be NO pool loungers set out at all. When we board, we are EACH given a origami folding lounge chair with backpack handles. This chair can be stored under your bed. When you feel like lounging by the pool, simply wear your lounge chair to your desired destination, unfold it and enjoy. Everyone gets a lounge chair. Problem solved! :)

I'm thinking of a new, upscale restaurant called "Gummables". The first dinner seating would be at 3:00 p.m, followed by the "late" seating at 4:30.

Late seating at 4:30!!!!! I am still laughing 5 minutes after reading that the first time!! LOVE IT!!

How about an M-class ship that has a greater probability to get you to your destination.

I don't know what the long term impact of the current pod issue will be. I can only guess that word of mouth from the thousands of affected passengers and their travel agents and the Cruise Critic community will be but it cannot be good for the future of Celebrity.

A quote from Celebrity's August newsletter, which has emailed to me today.

"We just returned from an amazing Alaskan cruise. Millennium was the perfect ship to take this cruise on. "

They have not adapted the 'up to date news'

They are selling Alaska, with 3 ships - Shiloutte, Millenium & Century.

Way too early for more ships. I am more concerned with the lousy service from X in Miami.Maybe they should bus in some more educated reps from FtLauderdale. Took me exactly 60 minutes with Choice air to book my selected flites a month ago. She takes my card but did not book them(I looked res up a few days later)If the pricing was not so good I would have canceled. On the cruise ship wish list. A few singles cabins, full promenade. Ditch the lawns, glass blow and crepe joint .Put an interesting restaurant up there with sky bar. No bigger than 2,800 passengers. 30 day cruises which could be combined for a semi WC. Maybe 4-6 yearly.

Lights on the balcony

A drying line in the shower

Use the bench seat to include some drawer space to improve the storage space

Scrap the cabanas

Shield the front desk from the foyer music so that you can communicate with the staff in the evening

Add some glass exterior elevators at the rear like on QM2 has at the front.

Find a better use for Quasar

Put Cellar Masters where Michaels Club is.

Relocate Michaels Craft Beer from Silhouette and Reflection to Cellar Masters.

Open up the Cellar Masters now Michaels Club Craft Beer with sea views and maybe outdoor seating.

Do something about the Gelato bar which seems to get too little use. What about coffee grinders there to choose your beans grind them and sell a cafetierre to take to your room?

Lights on the balcony

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! So much nicer on S-class without the neighbor's $%(#&!* balcony light left on all night. In fact, removing them from M class would be a step in the right direction.

With a lot of new ships being built, and nothing announced yet from Celebrity, what features would you like to see on their next new ship? Let's call it the "X" class! Would you like an aft pool, rear elevator bank, removal of the lawn, inside balconies, an exclusive "ship within a ship" area, zip lines, rock climbing walls, two separate main dining rooms, etc.?

Reliable propulsion systems.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to throw a wet blanket on this. Maybe it's just me, but with everything going on right now, I do not care to think about a new class of Celebrity ship. It's the last Celebrity item on my mind at the moment.

All I care about, is that everyone on Millennium arrives home safely, and that everyone affected, both onboard & those who had cancelled sailings, will be taken care of by Celebrity.

Well said!

Amen to that! Over the years, I've lost track of the evenings that we couldn't sit on our balcony and see the stars -- because the folks in adjacent cabins had left their exterior lights on, all night!

Nail hit firmly on the head for me. Pay less attention to the bells and whistles and bring back some of the things that made Celebrity stand out and that includes making the passenger feel special. I'm afraid there is a bit too much style over substance with Celebrity at the moment and they need to give their staff less to do so they are able to concentrate on the guest more.

Phil

I also agree with Phil and Larry with this. Celebrity has been getting closer to the other mainstsream cruise lines.

I miss being escorted to my cabin by a white-gloved attendant. I miss the specialty coffee cart going around the main dining room.

The need to stick with what got them where they are today, and to maintain all their ships in perfect condition.

Azamara is more like Celebrity used to be.

PS - Phil - got any carrots??:D

But look at the price differential.

If one likes a reincarnation of Celebrity as some of us experienced, at Azamara's prices, there are many who could not afford to cruise.

There has to be some middle ground.

I'd like a reincarnation of the old experience on a large new ship. Azamara is not big enough. I'll go re-read Azamara reviews.

Oceania's Riveria is a larger ship. Still not the size I prefer.

The RCL Radiance Class ships are right size. Build more with the old experience, thalaso pool, and Celebrity smoking policy.

That's your opinion. Others of us like lights on the balcony. I for one love to sit on balcony and read late at night. Another reason I like the M class the best.

Amen!

Sipping a glass or two, listening to the ship's passage through the water, and reading a great book in the warmth of a Caribbean night, that's priceless.

However an automatic timer or reset button might help in turning off the lights at "curfew hours".

But then again those people who like the no-lights feature already have a modern class of ships to their liking.

Totally agree. It is very annoying that passengers leave then on all night long. For me sitting on a dark balcony gazing at the stars and off in the distance is one of the small pleasures of having a balcony. When the lights are on it creates light pollution.

I enjoy that also but use a book light to avoid the light pollution. That way I have the best of both worlds. Can read my book and enjoy looking at the stars.

Plus I don't interfere with the other passengers that may be enjoying the darkness.

You can easily read on the balcony with your electronic device which provides its own light. Or, if you are reading an actual book, with a book light. I like to read on the balcony as well.

On the other hand, there is no escaping from those who leave their balcony lights on 24/7. I also like to be able to look at the stars.

Azamara does cost more, but remember all gratuities are included, all your drinks are included, they have a self-service laundromat and they are running specials all the time that bring their prices down.

They spend a lot more time in ports with more overnight stays and they have one special event on each cruise.

We have been on Azamara and had a great time. I wish the ships were a little bigger, the public areas can get crowded if the weather is bad

So here is the dilemna for Celebrity and the ship builders: Do you build one ship for one group or make an option that both types of cruisers are happy most of the time by specifying a lights out policy?

This process has to be repeated over and over for each variable.
