Electronic Cigarettes....are they allowed anywhere on the ship?

Some say yes some no. Policy is always changing. Just be discreet and don't blow vapor too obviously and you will be fine.
+1 After smoking for 42 years I have been on the electronic now for a little over a year. I have found I can use it anywhere and never be challenged. I do not make a skeptical out of myself anytime I feel it could be a little dicey though. I even use mine in the airport and other places I am sure they don't permit it. I call it "stealth vaping"!

As a non smoker, I appreciate your making the switch.

I will say the other day I was in a restaurant here in Dallas and a guy walked by my table and exhaled vapor right into my face. It took me a few seconds to figure out what happened, since Dallas restaurants have been non-smoking for years. I wasn't expecting it so it was disorienting. So, I think you are right that discretion is the key.

Here is what is on the NCL site, both smoking and e-cigs are in this...

What about smoking on the ship?

We want you to be comfortable on board, so public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so on your balcony, in the casino or in the Cigar Bar (where available). If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Also, you can smoke cigarettes, pipes and cigars outside on open decks (just not around food venues, sports decks, kids’ pool areas and other designated nonsmoking areas). Smoking inside your stateroom will result in a $250 cleaning charge added to your onboard account.

If you’re 18 through 20 years of age and you have the written consent of your parents or guardian (parent or guardian must be on board), you can purchase beer or wine for yourself only when the ship is sailing in international waters (except on Alaska and Hawai‘i cruises where you must be 21 years of age to consume or purchase alcohol of any kind).* If you want to gamble in our casinos, you must have a valid ID showing you are 18 years or older. If a Guest under the age of 18 wins in the casino and cannot provide proof of age, he or she will not be paid the winnings. There is no casino on Pride of America.

Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other guests’ perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule.

Only in the smoking areas. I have seen people in airports, restaurants, and movies "smoking" them, and they are usually asked to put it away.

Thing that gets me is all of the non-smoking diehards want people to stop smoking.

Yet when people make the attempt, the non-smoking folks force these people, to use their smoking cessation products, in the smoking area, which would be the worst place to force these people into. (like forcing someone on a diet that is life or death, into a room lined with candy and cakes, to eat their dietary meal.)

Makes zero sense.

Strongly agree! I like your analogy.

I agree, its been so long since I smoked I am probably more offended by the smell of smoking then normal non smokers. It amazes me I went through life never realizing that I smelled like that!

Thing is with the electronic cigs there is either no smell to the vapor, or it has a slight fruity smell depending on what flavor the liquid is. I have never had anybody describe the exhaled vapor as being offensive smelling.

Bill....

YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!

My wife finally stopped smoking by using the electronic cigarette and now if she can only use smoking areas, it will become a strong temptation to go back.

It just does not make any sense at all.

I just recently got off the Epic from a Med and TA cruise. Electronic Cigs were being smoked everywhere. I never saw anyone being asked to go to the smoking area or to stop.

I'm a non smoker and many many people were especially using them when sitting at inside bar areas.

Didn't bother me. I know lots of people that have switched and I appreciate they are doing this instead of real cigs. Wish they had that type of substitute for all the crappy food in my life. lol

You are SO right.

I was on X a couple of years ago. I'd been on the ecig for a couple of months. X would only allow them to be used in the smoking area. I said, Heck with this. If they're going to treat me like a smoker, I'm gonna smoke a real cig. Back on the regular cigs for nearly two years now. :(

I try to keep to my diet. But I do have to live in the real world. And use self control.

As another poster and my previous post states it is hard to distinguish real and ecigs. But I think as public awareness grows they will be more accepted.

Thanks Debbie....that is good news.

I hope the Breakaway has the same policy as the Epic.

I eat all the good food most of the time, just too much! :)

Totally agree! Non-smokers don't know how hard it is to stop. I want to and I have cut down drastically. But I have to admit when I walk past smokers - I immediately reach to get one for myself.

I'm a nonsmoker and hate being around cigarette smoke. It wouldn't bother me in the least to have somebody using an electronic cigarette in the bars or on any of the deck areas. It would seem rather strange though to see people using them in the dining room.

I agree that sending somebody trying to quit smoking to a smoking area is crazy. If they are determined to limit where electronic smokers can use their devices, then set up a special area in the bars or someplace for them, just not with the real smokers.

Another special area for "special people"? First it's smoking area, then it's non smoking area, and now a non smoking area for people who are pretending they're smoking so they can quit area !?! What's next, a special area for people who pass wind? Geez...

Just curious as a non smoker. Are any of these e cigarettes different colors? Would that help if it didn't look so much like a real cigarette or would that make it harder for the person trying to stop smoking. I myself don't mind them at all but I was wondering if people could identify them easier as not a real cigarette would that help people be more accepting of them?

Oh, and I agree, why send someone trying to quit to the smoking area? It would be like sending me to a room full of chocolate and asking me not to eat it!

Just NOT TRUE! I have struggled with my weight for years and not only do I understand I truly know how hard it is. A daily struggle.

you can use your esigs in the smoking areas, but maybe on your balcony would make more sense to avoid the temptation of real cigs.

I hate to be the dissenting view on this, but I also find "vapor" annoying and personally invasive. Kudos to those using them to stop smoking, but I'd really like to not have to inhale vapor either. Studies show that while FAR safer than cigarette smoke, there are still toxins present too.

What's the story with the electronic cigarettes?

Are they allowed anywhere on the NCL ships?

Don

Hi there this was my first NCL cruise. I noticed that the smoking areas for real or vapor are very large compared to HAL and Carnival. For example there is an entire area around the pool, on one side where you can smoke. Also smoking is allowed in the Biergarten Bar overlooking the pool area.

I always use the E-cig when I am drinking alcohol, and the rest of the time I am using regular cigies.

I used my E-cig on this cruise in the Dining Room as we were having wine, and in the Red Lion Pub one nite. Nobody said anything to me. I did not visit other venues with it, but prior cruises I have taken some puffs even in the Main Atrium Bar. Of course as you can see the policy says this is not allowed.

So hope this helps you.

I agree..I don't believe that most non-smokers can understand or totally relate to nicotine addiction. Nicotine is the only drug that acts as both a stimulant and a relaxant at the same time. For most smokers going through nicotine withdrawal is really very difficult. Not only is there the physical addiction of nicotine but there is also an equally strong psychological addiction in that smoking cigarettes go with many activities (drinking coffee or cocktails, after a meal, when stressed, talking on the phone, etc etc) Bottom line is that for most smokers quitting is hugely difficult (and a lifelong battle)

I personally have quit smoking and relapsed many times. I have gone as long as two years without one and then picked it up again for some unknown reason. Right now I am not smoking..tomorrow or next week who knows?

Many of them don't look like cigarettes at all Sharon (though some do) Lots of them are metallic looking or flat black and even have different color glows to them like blue)
