China is new home for royal caribbean international's quantum of the seas

Recommended Posts

Well I live in Asia and the Country is known as Australia.

Hardly matters i suppose that I have been to China a couple of times

and Asia many times.

3 of my friends have Worked in Honkers for up to 35 years in one case

My brother boards Asian students over many years

etc etc etc .

.

Suggest you read the article on the main Cruise Cruise News board. Goldstein specifically is referring to China and the Chinese market and not OZ. Ship will be based in China.

In China at the moment and there is a huge number of chinese people travelling now. Moreso than a few years ago. Lots of things happening here. Its really gone razzle and dazzle type stuff.

Rcl maybe primarily targeting asian cruisers but they will know that Australians will travel up to try out cruising on those ships too.

Rcl is making big pushes into both these markets cause its where the moola is.

Being that China owns a sizable chunk of our debt ( around 8%), why not give them one of our newer ships.

As an investor, I think this move is brilliant.

Most of the large cap companies are looking to expand their foot print in other countries. This is where large growth can be found.

Cruise lines have somewhat fallen short of expectations when trying to tap these markets. I suspect that some of the short fallings could be that the lines send their older ships.

I have bought and sold cruise line stocks but have been out for a while do to what I perceived as a stagnant or at the least a slow growth industry as of late.

This is a make or break deal for Royal, and as of July 17th, I am once again long with Royal.

Easy for me to be pleased as I have no skin in the game (worried about not sailing QOS out of USA) since I have 0 desire to float around the Caribbean for the millionth time....regardless of the "innovations" of the ship.

I think not only will they earn a sizable market from china itself they are also going to get a large portion of others from that region.

What's funny is I had quantum booked out of jersey. Cancelled it because i wasn't happy with the itinararies and now I'm actually looking to book it out of china. We've been wanting to do an Asian cruise. This gives us that bump.

Asia New Network out of Hamburg has ran a piece originating from China Daily. The article concerns Carnival Corporation's rapid expansion in China since first arrival in 2006. While the Carnival information is clearly attributed to the Carnival CEO.

Carnival Corp & Plc Chief Executive Officer Arnold Donald told China Daily that China will become the dominant market despite the fact it is currently smaller than established markets such as North America and Europe.

The article closes with RCI related information:

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, the world's second-largest cruise company, operating six brands including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Pullmantur, entered the Chinese cruise market in 2008, providing cruises originating from Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In 2015, the company will introduce two ships from its Quantum class and Oasis class to increase its presence in China.

While the original China Daily article can be found online, I received a virus warning and did not want to put the link.

Doesn't surprise me. I'll bet Oasis goes to China when Oasis 3 comes out. Or Oasis 3 goes straight to China.

I'm not convinced it'll happen so soon after starting up Quantum, considering they'll want to see if Quantum works out first before drastically increasing capacity. I think a more likely scenario is that Oasis or Allure moves to the Western Med full time, like NCL's Epic. Then, perhaps in another year or two when they have real data on how Quantum performed they could decide to move an Oasis Class ship to China, especially considering the eventual introduction of Oasis 4.

Just my $.02, it'll be fascinating to see what they actually do!

We should know about the destination of OASIS III within the next 6- 8 months. She is due out mid 2016 so I am assuming bookings would open first quarter of next year.

I suspect they would open bookings for OASIS III separately from the other ship's itineraries.

My 2 cents :)

My guess is Oasis 3 is going straight to China because they can build the ship to suit the Chinese market rather then have to do some refurbishments to the Oasis.

I agree. They can build the casino for that market and add the upscale shops needed that this market dictates from the beginning in place of trying to retrofit one of the two original Oasis twins.

I read that the two new Star ships will have a much larger shopping and gaming areas. RCI can easily bring the Mariner or Voyager back if not needed. I expect this area to get more of the new ships to continue building momentum and go head to head with Star as market leader. RCI is going where the money is and right now the Caribbean is over saturated. That could change but even Carnival Corp is looking to make cuts in the Caibbean with their fleet to try and improve pricing.

Yep, won't be too much longer till we know exactly where she will be headed. I would guess Oasis III to Port Canaveral with one of the existing ones going part time to Europe. Maybe by the time Oasis 4 comes out they will send her to China or one of the older ones. I don't see them sending new ships over that fast, especially since Quantum will just be arriving (if she's even there yet) when they destroy the new feeling by opening the larger Oasis up for booking.

In regards to the high end retail shops, I'm not sure that will be a change. When they announced Quantum they talked about the NYC audience having access to the best dining and shopping so they would expect similar high end offerings. So I would expect high end retail shops were always part of the plan for Quantum when she was to be based in NYC.

While true, Ladies O & A have continued to command a premium, even in the saturated Caribbean environment. A new Oasis Class ship will command a strong premium in the Caribbean, undoubtedly exceeding even what O & A currently command.

I'm starting to think that they're just booking full charters and that we won't be able to book anything from Shanghai. :(

Or maybe special sailings for travel agents, Chamber of Commerce, etc. in China to encourage bookings.

Don't forget, the ship hasn't even been introduced! Then it will undergo more changes before arriving in China.

They will have a lot of "bugs" to work out with the new dining options, whatever the type of entertainment will be, change over with some of the crew and shopping area, language, menu offerings and currency on board, as well as the casino.

I think you may be right.

Sigh.

Time to decide on a tour after the Global Odyssey. I don't expect to get to China again. This would be my second time, third if you count Hong Kong. It would be a shame to go all the way there and just fly back home as soon as I get there.
