Awwww.

Beauty is as beauty does

Exactly!

I meant to say earlier but I forgot because I was testing wine boxes. I think you liked the house in my piccies. I thought I'd offer more.

It was originally owned by the Pitt family who became prolific Prime Ministers in the UK. It is opposite the church also in the piccies. The Pitt family paid for and built the church for the village. It is currently owned by a Lord Lieutenant of our county ie The Queen! Previously owned by the family of Camilla.

It is a lovely typical traditional English (Not British) village with a very long history and we are lucky.

An extraordinary day here in the UK.

The labour party have just elected a new leader that will never lead a Labour government. They have voted to not have a chance of governing for the foreseeable future and givbe the Conservatives a clear run for ten years at least. The decision will even increase the number of Conservative voters in the next election. Bizarre.

We live in interesting times.

Seems to me a likely reaction to all the recent leaders - think about them: the now IMO completely discredited Blair, Gordon Brown, and Ed Milliband. Need one say more. But will certainly have the effect of keeping them out of government for a long time, unless they manage to do something about him, and also produce someone credible as an alternative.

The shadow health secretary has resigned already.

G'day to fellow coolers! We do live in interesting times J. We have a federal election slated for October and the writ was dropped well ahead of voting day. The party leaders have been given much longer than usual to try to convince Canadians to vote for their party. I just wish Canadians would vote, period! Our voter turn-out numbers are abysmal.

But none of them can join up dots.

1. Blair took us into Iraq that destoyed a country and fertilised and seeded ISIS and has destroyed world security. He has now moved on to capitilise that legacy.

2. Milliband refused to support the governments desire to intervene in Syria to support the US's strategy to rid of us of ISIS when intervention might have been effective, thus creating fertile ground for ISIS to grow and prosper (as it has) and has resulted with the worst refugee catastrophe and crisis of all time.

3. Corby has just taken to the streets to pressure the government to take unlimited immigrants that his own party helped cause in (1) and (2) above.

I despair.

For wifey today is Trout and Charlotte Summery Salad (unfiltered olive oil was added at the table ...) with Pane Pugliese with a garlicy, tomatoey, buttery, oily brushings and then grilled. With frozen Picpoul de Pinet in La Cucina. It was nice.

Nice seems like an understatement! It looks like an awesome meal! It will be a store bought rotisserie chicken for us. Grocery shopping day! :) And yes, I will admit to being lazy in the kitchen but I make up for it everywhere else.

Appreciate getting this interesting "breaking news" update from Jeff and others. WOW!! I was even more shocked as I read more and more about him and his policy directions/wishes.

When I looked at the liberal-learning New York Times this morning, their headline noted "Britain’s Labour Party Takes a Hard Left Turn". Then in the lead paragraph, they said Jeremy Corbyn was "a longtime socialist committed to nationalizing key industries, scrapping Britain’s nuclear missile system and reversing the centrist policies of previous leaders such as Tony Blair."

This story also noted this election: "gave stewardship of the Labour party to the hard left for the first time in more than three decades". Also: "voters have been increasingly attracted to the political extremes, with support growing both for socialist parties on the left and nationalist ones on the right." This story notes that he "has described Hamas and Hezbollah as 'friends.' " They noted he is "a vegetarian teetotaler". Does not drink? That hardly sounds like the style of Winston Churchill that I remember from history.

In the Wall Street Journal, they call him a "a staunch pacifist". They also noted his "first action as party leader would be to attend a rally later Saturday to pressure the government to take in more refugees." During our visit to the Kent area in July 2008, I remember picking up about how "tense" things were then about the worries in the UK on too many immigrants being there and the pressures it put on the economy. Corbyn seems to want to open up the floodgates to unlimited numbers coming into the UK. Right??

T, your passion for football and blurred wristwatches shows through ....:) Jeff

Ah, a super cute comment from Jeff on my arty picture as the Ohio State touchdown was being scored and fans celebrated. Only Jeff would have that much "fun" with his comment on the "blurred wristwatch". Below is another visual, more conventional, as the Ohio State quarterback makes the moves against Virginia Tech earlier this week. Plus, a couple of other pictures to reflect the "color" connected with college football in America that makes it so much fun and super exciting.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Here are three more visuals from the Monday night game features defending National Champions and number-one-ranked Ohio State visiting AND BEATING Virginia Tech. First, QB Cardale Jones is making another successful run. Second is one of the Virginia Tech cannons going off during pre-game ceremonies. Finally, here is the OSU mascot, Brutus Buckeye, doing a little dance with the cheerleaders on the sidelines, etc.:

Terry, On the 2006 game, Michigan lost its Mojo when Bo died the day before the game. Hopefully, Harbaugh will bring it back. Of games I've been to, 1969 is my favorite.

On that 1969 OSU at Michigan game, I was right there in Ann Arbor. I was a part of the stadium-record crowd of 103,588 in the "Big House" that began the combative stretch of the rivalry known as "The Ten Year War." BUT, however, 1969 was not my favorite games!! Ohio State came into that game ranked number one in the country as the defending National Champion. Our team was on a 22-game winning streak under the direction of head coach Woody Hayes.. It was Bo Schembechler's first season as UM coach and this game was considered one of the biggest upsets in college football history.

Woody and Bo were actually very, very close. Woody's son, who was a Judge in our community, told me about how when Bo was a graduate assistant at Ohio State, Schembechler would "babysit" son Steve as Woody and his wife Anne went out for the evening. Schembechler grew up in Ohio (Barberton, near Akron). The ten-year battles of Woody vs. Bo were classic. Ann Arbor and Columbus are separated by only 180 miles and this is a rivalry in football that began in 1897.

While at Miami of Ohio, Woody Hayes coached a tackle by the name of Glenn Edward (Bo) Schembechler. Schembechler would then be a graduate assistant to Hayes at Ohio State and later an offensive line coach for OSU. Woody helped Bo get the coaching job at Miami before Schembechler was hired at UM to revive them.

With all due respect to Mark, I disagree that Michigan "Michigan lost its Mojo" in that 2006 game. That Friday when Bo died, I was up in Toledo and had a call from a top editor at the Cleveland newspaper. His message to me was: Have been watching TV? It is live with the shocking news. I called him back and found out that Bo had died and that ESPN had been on the air for three hours covering this story. This included helicopter shots as the buses with the Michigan players were going down to Columbus to play this celebrated 2006 game. I joked to friends that this was a plot by Bo to hype up Michigan to beat OSU. My view is that Bo's death on that Friday before the big game was a huge motivator to fire up Michigan. It was a super exciting game called the "Game of the Century". I was glad to be in Ohio Stadium as a part of the crowd of 105,708 to attend and watch this thriller.

For me, one of the most exciting OSU vs. UM battles to witness was 1972. Final score? Ohio State 14, Michigan 11 as OSU had dramatic goal-line stands on the one-yard line to stop UM from scoring.

How is my football history and memories?

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

So far 7 shadow cabinet members have walked away.

YES, sadly, this is a big, dramatic story for the UK. From the BBC, they had live coverage on the rally for refugees in Parliament Square. The new Labour Party leader was speaking with a sign next to him saying "Refugees welcome here". Challenging story on the refugees, but what is the right, best "solution"?

I see Jeremy Corbyn will have Tom Watson as his deputy leader.

The labour Party will be run by Tom and Jerry!!!

The worrying thing is the privileged access he will have to sensitive security information and the consequences of that. We have moved from a Conservative government that couldn't govern during the large session to a completely unopposed government. It is truly terrible.

Hopefully, there will be enough sensible Labour MPs who will defy the whip on important things like the dismantling of our defence systems and vote with the government. This is a shocker.

Good Morning All,

No galley for me today, the family are taking me out for lunch to our favourite river pub...😁

Your offering looks delicious as usual Jeffers.

Sunset...hope all is well with you and your good lady...just three weeks now until my next Spirit adventure!

Current political capers are very depressing...l can't even look at this new leader let alone listen to him. You're quite right about what he can now 'access' Jeff and it is scary stuff indeed.

Happy Sunday....

Refresh our memories about your upcoming Spirit adventure!! As I recall, you said you were "flying into Istanbul in October to join the Spirit, nine day voyage to Athens." What are your scheduled ports? How many of these are new stops for you versus those places you have visited previously? Look forward to hearing more, PLUS updates on those places you are visiting. That's especially true given the changing and challenging recent situations in Greece and Turkey.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
