What is open on turnover day for B2B cruisers?

Recommended Posts

We did a B2B on a RCCL ship (Grandeur OTS) some years ago and everything was closed after breakfast until 11:30 that turnaround day.

On Princess the pools were open as well as a couple of bars and the buffet. The IC (International Café) never closed.

when we, as back to backers, get back on the ship (freedom of the seas) what is open? bars, pizza ? i know the shops are closed being in port. thanks in advance for help.

Breakfast will be open as it always is for departing customers. All other restaurants that would normally be open day 1 will be open typically at 11:30.

Just some other info. As a B2B'er you will be required to disembark, clear customs, and re-board as each cruise leg is considered a separate cruise by RCI and customs and the ship is "cleared" between your 1st and 2nd cruise. But that is typically done as a group with other B2B'ers who will meet in a lounge or area separate from the general disembarkation lounges. I believe a group breakfast is also offered. You will be escorted off the ship privately as a group and walk directly back on after clearing customs. Very short and simple process.

Also, if you are in different staterooms for each cruise your stateroom attendant will move your clothes, etc., to the new room for you.

Our B2B switched over after overnight in Venice. Everything was open that is normally open in port (no stores or casino). We did not get off the ship or go through customs or anything like that.

The country where the turnover day is taking place makes a difference.

In the US, it's normal for all the passengers to disembark, clear Immigration, and be free to return to the ship.

In Europe, I have never had to disembark the ship, unless I wanted to. It was just like any other port day.

Japan was very involved, even for the first port in the country (not a turn-around day).

We've taken two b2b cruises on Princess, both from Fort Lauderdale. The good thing was that we did not have to attend the second muster drill. During that time, however, all the places serving food and beverages closed down. We enjoyed spending time in the pool.

umm are you sure about that? a while ago a couple was kicked off the second leg of their B2B because she refused to attend the muster drill

they ARE treated as 2 distinct events so you are supposed to attend every drill

It depends on the ship, maybe on the Captain. On the Sun we had to attend the muster drill on the second segment. But on the Star none of us who were taking the second segment were required to attend that muster drill.
