CL -- can you take drinks out

We haven't had anyone in either the DL or CL care if we took drinks out of the lounge regardless if there were plenty of seats or not. To be honest, the drinks are part of either being a loyal customer or paying for a suite. So, I'm pretty sure if you are in either lounge you've payed for the right to leave with a drink or two (many times I took a drink back to my wife who was still getting ready for dinner). :)

As a side note, most CLs do not measure up to the DLs. Much better environment and view in the DLs IMHO.

I will be travelling on the Grandeur in a Grand Suite and I was wondering is you are allowed to go to the CL and take drinks back to your cabin. I'm interested in both alcoholic and soda.

It's really ship to ship. Only time we had a problem was on Oasis coming out of the Diamond Lounge. But that was a few years ago. Just got off Rhapsody and we were with some friends who didn't have lounge privileges. So we'd get a drink and walk out to join them in the Viking Crown (where the loung is located). The lounge bar server would even bring drinks out to us. So honestly you shouldn't have a problem unless you're giving them to friends.

We're not drinkers so would only be interested in sodas. Could we just go in during the hours and get a canned soda to go?

Possibly, though they might not have a can and just pour you a glass out of a plastic bottle.

I agree with Bob, but I would break it down to a 90-95% probability that they will have cans and be happy to give you one to take.

As Merion Mom stated, it was the introduction of the Vouchers that changed everything.

Doesn't make much sense financially to have a guest leave their drink in a lounge, only to walk out and have another free drink poured for them elsewhere.

Even though we receive Diamond benefits due to our status on Celebrity, we haven't been on too many RCCL cruises. Can someone describe the difference between the CL and the DL, particularly on the Explorer of the Seas. I get that one is the Diamond Lounge and one is the Concierge Lounge, just not sure what the difference is. thanks in advance!

Amenities are the same. Difference is in who has access. DL is larger and has a better view.

On the Enchantment, just after turning Diamond and before the vouchers were introduced, we knew drinks were to be consumed in the lounge but noticed drinks being taken out regularly. So we're having a nice relaxing time enjoying this new experience when a woman appeared on duty, looked like an assistant to the concierge who was on adefinite mission to stop this thievery! Anyone leaving with a drink was stopped and drinks taken from them in a very enthusiastic manner, the drinks were then tipped away. One couple seeing what was going on, timely exited into an elevator only to be foiled by a foot between the doors and drinks were taken! I'm not making this up, the shock horror looks on faces were priceless, some making a point of writing this woman's name down before leaving in disgust. Since then, I've not seen anyone blink at anyone leaving with a drink but that experience has scarred me and have never had the courage to leave with anything.

Once vouchers were initiated, taking drinks out is not the crime it used to be. We always had fun watching people trying to "smuggle" drinks out of the lounge or trying to chug it if they were caught. :D

We sailed on a Brilliance B2B in 2006. On the first leg, Angelina, the bartender in the CL, made sure she topped off your wine before you left for dinner and no one stopped you at the door. On the second leg, a person was stationed there nightly and would chase you down if you tried to take a drink out.

How times have changed!:D

Got off of Jewel on 9/26 and drinks were allowed to be taken out of the lounge. Had CL plus two overflow lounges.

We also got off the Jewel on 9/26 and took drinks out of The Vortex. We would have a couple drinks then take one down to have for dinner. Nobody said anything - even the lady checking our SeaPass cards the door!

thank you! So, I assume that as Diamond (not D+) that we would only have access to the DL...is this correct? I am trying to compare it to the Elite Lounge vs Michael's Club on Celebrity. Thinking this is how it works.

Correct, unless you are in a Grand Suite or better, then you will only have access to the DL.

I'm very glad to hear that RC has a crew member that takes rule enforcement seriously!!

The problem is that her talents are wasted at the lounges. My suggestion would be that she works pool deck during the days, throwing out the items left all day by chair hogs. Then in the evening she can work the door of the MDR, turning away those slobs wearing wife beaters and baseball caps.

I certainly agree that the instances of drinks being carried out of the DL/CL since the vouchers were introduced has increased to the point where the old policy is not being enforced much. BUT... late last year when the Vision was still in FLL before shifting up to Tampa I was sitting at the bar just outside the entrance to the DL consuming my vouchers. The CL was SRO and the DL was packed like a Tokyo subway, so I thought it was a wiser option to use the vouchers. While I was on my perch a couple was coming through the door of the DL with drinks in hand and only to be met by a hotel officer with more stripes than the concierge... he emphatically told them that drinks were NOT to be taken out of the lounge. They did not leave with their drinks or anyone else during the time I was there.

Yet, on Vision in February, it was perfectly ok to carry a drink out. No one said a word.:D

Actually that was the only instance I have seen of late, really don't think there is much value added with the carry out ban since the voucher program began. I was only illustrating the one thing Royal does consistently and that is being inconsistent!:)

It's one thing leaving the lounge with a drink but one thing I don't like to see is people using the DL as a free bar where they just walk in, ask for whatever and walk out. Recently on Freedom a young guy walks in to DL, we're seated 2 yards away and he seriously didn't look old enough to drink, card in hand, asked for 2 Coronas and 1 Bud, got them no problem, walked out no thanks no tip. Who knows where those beers were going? That's just wrong.

To each their own. It may be wrong if those beers went to those who aren't allowed in the DL or CL, but he could have been grabbing them for people who are. I've done that many times for my wife. Not sure I would really put up a fight if I was told I couldn't leave with my drink (it's really not that big of a deal to me either way), but it comes across Busch League if they have a problem with it.

We were on Navigator at the end of March when there were only about 120 Diamonds or above on the cruise (and 4 of them were in my party). The DL was so dead that the bartender not only let me leave with a drink for myself and my wife (who was still getting ready for dinner), but he got the door to the lounge and escorted me to the elevator!

For the suite guests, who do not have any loyalty status so have no vouchers or option to go to the DL they should at least be able to take drinks out if the CL is full. I do hope they plan to address that issue very soon.

Question when using the vouchers (Diamond) - can you get all three drinks (like beer) at a bar all at once unopened? Thanks!

Don't know about three beers, but I've seen people get one unopened beer.
