Late Night Snacks?

Check out your Freestyle Daily while on board to get the exact times restaurants are open. There will always be a full serve restaurant open. On new ships and ships that have gone through recent refurbishment, O'Shehans is the place to go for that late night snack.

There is a $7.95 service charge for room service, but you can have food brought to your room 24/7. Some ships offer free continental breakfast room service during limited morning hours.

OSheehan's is the 24 hour restaurant on most ships, but it seems even their menu is more limited late, late night/early morning. Usually a part of the buffet (e.g., Great Outdoors) is open until 10:30 or 11:00 with snacks, desserts and soft serve. You can also get something a little earlier and take it back to your room for later. You will not go hungry!

Last time on the Breakaway and on the Getaway....they were NOT allowing any food to be taken out of the buffet to go back to your room! They were, in fact, strictly enforcing this! :(

Uh, this was a policy that lasted about two weeks and was swiftly reversed. I'm sorry you were hit with it, but it didn't stick.

I was able to make myself a cheese plate from the buffet on GA and take it back to my room in June.

Don't forget about the snacks set up in the casino at night. Fruit, cheese, small sandwiches and usually one hot item such as chicken fingers.

That's cool. Is this a nightly thing on all ships? I've never known about it (and never looked).

I took food from the buffet all over the ship on our 7 day Alaska on the Sun and 3 day on the Pearl. Just do your "washy washy happy happy" and it's all good. The Great Outdoors is usually the snack place in the afternoon and late night. On the Sun it was cookies, some pastry, cold cuts, cheese, and some hot items in addition to the soft serve, coffee and flavored water, lemonade and iced/hot tea. The Pearl was more extensive and included pizza in addition to the other items mentioned. One memorable sea day afternoon they had pineapple upside down cake which I hadn't had in years and years. It was delicious. Also, ghetto mocha is the bomb--who needs the $$ coffee bar? Throw a packet of hot chocolate in a cup, add coffee and a bit of half and half.

You'll have a great time!

I think this is supposed to be the case but when I was on the breakaway the week of September 20th, I tried to go to OSheehan's at 4:10 am as I had been up all night drinking and gambling and was hungry. I was told that they were not serving from about 4-5:30 am. Im not sure if it is like that every night or if it was just that particular night.

They take an hour to clean each early morning... but outside of that one hour, you are good to go any other time :)

Hence they are not 24/7. Just didn't want anyone assuming that and making the mistake I did. As you can imagine after my long drinking and gambling session I was a little hungry and a little upset they were not open. If I would have been about 10 minutes earlier then I would have been ok.

I heard that ships have regular scoop ice cream (not soft serve) at the buffet. Is that only available at lunch time? Or available at the late night times, too?

Also, where on the Getaway can you get a cup of coffee in the morning (free)? Only in the buffet and dining room? Is there a coffee/water station anywhere else?

Scooped ice cream is served in the buffet at lunch and dinner time. Only soft serve out of machine for nightly snacks. On the Gem they had a coffee station in O'Sheehan's and at the bar in the Atrium. Sorry, I can't remember where on the Breakaway.

I made the mistake of assuming since food is served 24/7 that the bar is also open those hours. I found out that wasn't the case, and had to hit the Atrium bar for an early morning Bloody Mary.

Oh I had no problem getting drinks at OSheehan's after they told me no food. But even if they would have been closed, casino bar is always open.

After that happened, I checked the Daily, and sure enough they were listed as closed. I can't remember the exact times, but it was like 4am to 7am, or something that they weren't open. They told me (at least that trip), that the Atrium bar was the only one currently open. I think it was around 6:15am on Getaway.
