Anthem 3 day. First impressions.

Recommended Posts

I felt motion on anthem that didn't necessarily match the seas. I understand the lack of information, as this was an issue on my recent anthem experience-- but you weren't getting off in Halifax, so I don't really understand why it matters. Better weather= good thing.

You're right...I guess it just seemed weird that they wouldn't say something.

The captain made the right call and I'm glad he did. But I'm on team: the more information the better. I'm hoping getting out of my cabin and heading down to a lower deck will be helpful.

Why does it matter that you aren't going to Canada? Nobody could get off anyways and it will/should have zero effect on the cruise itself. That's probably why Royal hasn't said anything.

I think the roll call had lots planned - was there something planned for the stop?

PS - I see that there are at least 2 people posting on Periscope this weekend. What a happy surprise to see that - and that I had followed them both at some point!

I'm assuming the captain will say something about our route change during his announcement this morning. I didn't see a need to rush to tell us since it isn't impacting anyone's plans for anything.

They had to make the call pretty early on since once we were out of Bayonne, it was either left to Halifax or right to go south! Looking forward to another fun day!!!

When Matt arrived at the port, boarding had not yet started. This is the case at any port. You are directed to an area and then when boarding begins, it is always special assistance, Suites, Pinnacle Club Members and then D+ and down the C&A line.

If boarding has already begun when you arrive, you will check in and just board the ship with everyone else.

I have been out of touch with cruise info for a while....On Q they assigned check in times. Have they discontinued that process?

Seas are calm this morning and it's really warmed up. It's still early, so I expect the temp to improve over the day. Lots of sun on the port side. Unfortunately I'm on the starboard side so I'm not getting it today. Maybe tomorrow on the way back.

First. Wow. This ship is incredible to look at. I think it's the prettiest ship I have ever been on.

Crew has been universally friendly and helpful.

Got to the port by 10am as I was worried about traffic with the bit of snow we had. Porter put on my RFID tag and into the terminal. Immediately was directed to one of the roving check in people. She was happy I already uploaded my picture. She swiped my passport, stamped my set sail paper and directed me to Suite security line. I was the only one in line. Past security are regular check in desks like you are used to. There was a table to buy drink packages. Because I have OBC I waited to buy here rather than before sailing. Price for Ultimate was $59/day plus 18%. No sales tax. They gave me a sticker to put on my card. Have a place to put it until you get your sea pass!

I was directed to sit. At 10:30 boarding began. Special assist and suites and pinnacles first. Then D+ and so on down to general boarding. I have a JS so I was in first group.

It all went smoothly.

Because the ship has been sitting here for 2 days our cabins were ready upon boarding. Got to my cabin, got my sea pass. And there was a complimentary wow band on the bed. Got settled in and off to explore.

Royal iq was not working correctly for me so I stopped at internet service desk. We got it reloaded and working. Internet for one device is $15/day. With my D+ discount it's free.

Because of the recent Noro they are squirting you with hand sanitizer every 30 feet or so. I don't mind.

One thing I don't love is that they are measuring pours at the bars. But since I have the package it's not like I won't enjoy myself.

Tip: I could not get a northstar reservation before boarding. Once iq was up I was able to book it through the app. The open slots were quickly gone though.

I tried lunch at Michaels pub. Tomato herb soup and polenta fries. Yum.

Capt Claus is onboard. Just announced that he will keep us safe as we navigate to avoid the storm out to our south and east (we are headed to Canada). I have no doubt.

Off to sail away.

Have a great time!....Had the same experience on Quantum checking in, super smooth, fast and easy. Also had our photos downloaded. Will be there Monday morning.....K.O.:)

Yes, you still must reserve your arrival time at the port and that arrival appointment time shows on your set sail pass but they do let you board outside that time frame. ;)

I am sure it will improve sunshine wise for you after noon today. ;)

On board now as well. Definitely a very rough evening after a great day aboard Anthem. I'm a pretty regular cruiser and this is very rough for me. Usually I go to sleep and there's no issues but last night I couldn't get comfortable due to rocking.

Quite honestly I'm a little put off by the fact that there was no announcement due to the course change. I definitely agree with the the captain for making the call due to weather but why don't you let the passengers know? We were already down by Washington DC after I finished dinner last night so they made that call much earlier in the day (if not immediately after we left Bayonne). Why should I find this out from a tweet?

Anyway I'm hoping that this gets better and perhaps my aft cabin is making this worse. I would have to imagine certain activities would have to be canceled from the motion.

You have to be kidding me! Your whining and moaning about something that is outrageously STUPID. Get a grip......:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I was up quite late. Did not feel any rocking last night. There is a little bit today.

Matt - thanks for your response. The ship is pretty gorgeous isn't she?

Our cabin is almost completely in the back of the ship and up high. I think that has a lot to do with the movement we were feeling last night.

As for everyone saying I'm whining, you're so kind as always. I just have never been on a ship where the captain didn't at least do a morning update. It's almost noon and everyone is talking about it, and there has been nothing official. If you don't think it's strange, then I guess I'm the crazy one.

Off to enjoy the Anthem. The bionic bar is truly so much cooler in person. I'll have a drink for all of you.

My Spa JS. One bath with shower (rain fall shower head plus one of those wands) plus a separate tub from the shower stall, and one bathroom with toilet and sink.

Outlets by desk and right side of bed.

Safe is very small. I'm not sure an iPad would fit.

Plenty of closet space. I do not miss having the walk in closet that JS usually has.

The tv has no visible external connections. At least none I can see. It also does not pull out swivel etc.

two chairs on the balcony. They are sort of loungers too.

A very elegant cabin.

My drinking may have helped with any rocking last night :)

And my Jamie's drunk couple were attempting to sing o solo mio. :)

The Captain just came on (noon) and announced that we are indeed heading south to avoid the bad weather by Halifax. He has still not identified himself.

Matt, it's Captain Henrik Loy who was on vacation from the Quantum and asked to fill in for 3 weeks until Captain Claus returns on March 19.

This was posted on the Current Captain's Thread today by someone who is also on your cruise http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=49300320&postcount=3331

Thanks for that info. I have asked a number of crew members who the Captain is and they have no idea.

Solarium Bistro for lunch. Seems like WJ light. Burgers, hot dogs, some fish some curry, soups, salad bar. I hear dinner is quite different.

I'm not sure where previous food complaints have come from. Food is good and looks quite fresh.

In Jamie's I had the arancini risotto balls. And then fettuccine sort of carbonara. Very tasty and the pasta was "light" - meaning the sauce was more about flavor as opposed to being heavy and goopy. The risotto balls were excellent.

I get full very fast so I could not have one of those big desserts. They look great though.

We just had our cabin crawl this morning. All the cabins on this ship are elegant. So different than the usual RCI decorating.

Sorry but only took pics of the view from the "75% obstructed view" balcony on deck 6. View seemed fine.

And our slot pull was moved to 9am Sunday by the Casino Manager. There are 300 Club Royale VIPs onboard and the casino is very busy so they don't want to give us a machine in prime time. Not sure I will be awake for that :)

If I'm repeating things I apologize. I'm not scrolling back over and over.

If I didn't mention it -the All Access Tour was cancelled. "Sanitation Concerns".

We are still in heavy clean mode. They are scrubbing cabin doors and hallway walls. In some places the disinfectant smell is a little too powerful. But I'd rather have a clean ship.

IFly is running. Northstar was not because of the bit of rocking.
