I tried to search for this, but couldn't find anything specific. What exactly does the butler in the Haven do? We are on the Getaway on a Haven Spa Suite in a few weeks, not sure what the butler typically does. I really have no idea because we've never had a butler before at all. If we want food delivered to the room, does that mean we don't have to pay for room service because the butler will just bring it? Or if we want to enjoy a cocktail while we are getting ready will he bring it? I think I saw somewhere that he will unpack your suitcase? I guess this is a first world problem lol

You answered your own question about the butler with bringing food and drinks. I don't have them unpack my suitcase they are really busy he or she is not your personal butler they have many rooms they handle imagine if everyone wanted their suitcases unpacked? but I'm sure if you really want them to do it they will. Personally I don't want someone going through my "bloomers" lmaooooo

They will bring you meals and you are not charged a room service fee. They bring various treats to your suite each day. I wouldn't ask them to bring drinks unless you really tip into the three digits because of the time that would take and if you have the beverage package you will not get those drinks for free either. They will show you how to operate the lights, the coffee machine and answer questions about the room. They would unpack if asked, but, like others, I wouldn't ask them to do that.

They will also bring your DVD's on request on certain ships.

Have fun and enjoy your cruise.

They brought our friends gummy bears, M&Ms and chips (regular) everyday.

They brough me breakfast on disembark day (I tipped the week at that point) and Pizza another night for my kids.

It's 24hours as there is also a night time butler.

He also mentioned that sometimes, people will pre-order a late night snack so when they have finished their partying the food will be in the room when they stumble in...

So if you do this you don't have to pay the fee for room service?

No room service fee but that's why you tip him at the end...

Movies on the TV are free as well (no more DVD renting)...

I only found out about the gummy bears and M&M near the end of the trip. We got cookies and cakes (pound cake, etc...)

But I guess you can ask for anything that is on the menu...chicken wings, etc...

There is no fee for room service in a any suite, Haven or on decks. The butler was nothing I used on my seven night cruise, I don't want extra food in my cabin. I never saw the butler after I told him no food and didn't feel obligated to tip for a service I didn't use.

If there is something you want, ask and if the Butler can't get it for you, he or she will let you know. Also, if you want them to unpack your suitcase, just ask and they will be more than happy to do it (I've read that others have had them unpack for them).

Well since a teacher teaches and a waiter waits tables wouldn't a butler buttle?

No your not charged for snacks unless your requesting filets from Cagneys. Owners Suites come with unlimited sodas and water with your choice of 3 bottles of booze.

We just returned from the Breakaway today, our very first NCL cruise. We were in an H5. When we boarded, the concierge gave us a little speech and told us the butler was in charge of "anything food and beverage related, except reservations." When we met our butler, he encouraged us to ask for anything we needed and he would do it for us, or point us to the right person to do it.

We filled out the breakfast card each evening requesting a basket of croissants be delivered in the morning with a pot of coffee. This was basically our only request, but he stopped by every afternoon to drop off snacks and ask if we needed anything. He also went over disembarkation procedures with us the last evening.

I got the feeling he would have been very happy to do more for us, we're just pretty low impact. My advice is to just ask for anything you need! If they can, they will.

The benefit of a butler is "personalized" service vs. the service you get from a room steward. Just "delivering treats" each day or morning coffee is not really an example of butler duties (e.g. even when I am not in the Haven, I do get regular deliveries from the casino of candy platters, shrimp platters, etc. and the room steward delivers those -- and I fill out the Continental breakfast cards for morning coffee and a room service waiter delivers that.)

An example of something a butler can do but a room steward or room service waiter can't is deliver morning coffee that is IN YOUR ROOM when you wake up :) In February on my Breakaway cruise I had to work :(, so I set my daily alarm for 7:30. I asked the butler to please deliver coffee and croissants at 7:20, which he did every day. (He came into the room while I was sleeping, did not disturb me, and set the table with coffee and croissants/muffins, etc. When my alarm went off each day, I opened my eyes and everything was there waiting for me.

Can't beat it :)

There are still DVD's on certain ships, including the Spirit. I was allowed to hold three movies at any one time from a menu of around 100. They are free to suite guests.

As mentioned above, you will have a different butler after hours....I think 8-9pm time frame until the morning....they will do the same for you....

I have had 2 NCL cruises in suites. Not Haven, but never the less, butler service and had issues with 1 butler, but after talking over the issues with the concierge, the issues were corrected. The concierge is over the butler, so if you have any issues with the butler, let the concierge know, and most likely will resolve the issue.

Enjoy being pampered and enjoy the suite life on NCL!!!!

So,,,, we normally take advantage of the "white tablecloth" breakfast service on port days. The butler will bring you whatever you want (easier if it is something from the Suites restaurant menu). For example: Filet steak and eggs over easy, side of bacon, fresh fruit plate, wheat toast, diet pepsi. Or egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms, fresh fruit, juice, croissant with butter and strawberry jam.

Since we like our coffee, we had the butler stock extra pods (removing stuff that we were not going to drink).

On our alaska cruise, our butler brought up extra deck chairs and a pile of deck blankets for glacier watching.

Butler takes care of the laundry (we're platinum, so we get two free bags).

Even if you don't see him/her, the butler splits the duties normally assigned to the cabin steward.

Bumping this old thread.

Since the butler handles everything food related, can they bring you food from the MDR or one of the other restaurants? Is there a special Haven menu or something?

Yes to all of your questions.

Thank you for bumping this thread!
We just booked a cruise for next summer, and I wondered where the duties of the concierge, butler and steward were divided. Our previous cruises have been with RCL and HAL, and neither had butlers.

For dining reservations, would that be managed by the butler or concierge?

And who would handle priority escort for tenders if necessary?

Do the butlers escort you to dinner? (We met a couple who cruised on a  line that did that, so I figured I'd ask!)

My son says that every time I ask a question on the cruise, he will answer "The butler did it!"  I hope whoever we get as our butler doesn't get upset.

The butler doesn’t do it.

The concierge will help you with dining reservations. Best advice is to do it yourself 130 days prior to departure so you get the restaurants and times you want. They will sell out online and onboard. The Concierge has the ability to overbook restaurants, but once they are fully sold out, even the concierge won’t get you a seat.

The concierge will provide escorts off the ship where applicable.

At some ports, the concierge or butlers will be at the gangway the help you bypass the lines.

If you go to a dinner show on a big ship (cirque shows, supper club shows) the concierge will escort you into the show room before general seating. No other dinner escorts (like Royal genies).

Depending on ship and room class, concierge staff will escort you to reserved seating on the theater.

BTW: it is usually not good to bump a old thread since the information is old and out of date causing confusion and mis-information. Just start a new thread and title it “the butler does it?”

I respectively disagree. I think that in this case bumping the thread WAS the best thing to do. This info does not go out of date that fast and it was of great benefit to see all of the thread, not just the more current comments. I would agree with a topic like COVID 19, which changes almost weekly, not to include older comments. But for most general information I think bumping a thread is perfectly appropriate.

Yet for some reason the Mods still disagree with you.

On one of my last cruises , I met a couple who had won their upgrade .They knew I had cruisesd a lot and asked me how much  to tip .They made the mistake of askingtheir butler ..who suggested 250$ ...for basically giving treats at end of day ...outrageousbecause he did not do anything special forthem

they did notknow upgrading or bidding would costthis much, plus they still needed topay other tips as well to room steward and concierge was expectingonetoo

iMO it was not worth it .They had to get cash fromATm to pay him

They didn't "need" to tip anyone.

They didn't need to take the suggestion of $250 as fact, either.
