Will it seem silly if we dress alike? Two sisters..

Recommended Posts

Dulcimer,

Sorry to hear about your updated diagnosis. Wishing you the best outcome possible.

I think it's lovely what you are doing for your sister. You obviously love her very very much. I feel that if you and she think it would be fun to dress alike you should do what you both wish. It doesn't matter what others think at all. I'd be the first to tell you you both look great even if it's not something I would do. Having said that...many years past my girlfriend (who was married to my DH's cousin until he passed away) and I went to NY to spend Christmas with the DH's family. We were both traveling from LA to NY but not on the same flight. The first night we arrived, there was a dinner scheduled at a great Italian restaurant and though not planned at all...my girlfriend and I showed up in the same shirt and wearing black pants! It was hilarious...we had a great laugh about it. We normally don't wear the same style clothing so this was a real fluke. My SIL thought it was great and she was so taken with the way I had styled my outfit compared to how my girlfriend had styled hers. I wore my favorite jewelry and she wore her outfit with a scarf. It set us apart even though we both had the same shirt and black pants. So, maybe that's how, if you choose too, you and your sister could set yourselves apart a little...by wearing the same outfit but styling it to your individual tastes.

Whatever you choose to do...I wish you and your sister the best cruise ever. I'll keep you in my prayers!

Dulcimergirl, DH (a 17 year survivor) and I wish you a wonderful cruise in your fun outfits, and a long and happy life with the people you love. You sound like the kind of people we like to meet on cruises.

I hope you know that there are more negative words said on CC than aboard ship. I think you are going to make a lot of people smile.

Bon voyage!

Well, things haven't been looking good for me. Just found out my cancer has spread to my liver, so I'm probably in for more chemo. Yuck, But, to make my day better, I just upgraded for a significant amount my sister and my cabin, we are now in a balcony! From a porthole interior yet.. lolNow we are really looking forward to it.. Rather, I am, she doesn't know yet, and hopefully won't until I unlock the door and she see's the balcony. Hoping this is not my last cruise, since I do have one with hubby booked for Feb. But, I intend to enjoy what time I have left. Keep Cruising!

I am so sorry to hear this news. Thankfully the liver is rather durable. How large of a spot did they find? Is ablation an option? If so that's a fairly easy procedure. Resection, we'll that hurt like heck for a few days but you could go through much worse. [emoji4] hopefully they can go surgical (along with some possible radiation) rather than the chemo route. If you were not aware, I've been fighting sarcoma for 3 1/2 years now. Unfortunately I'm about to start looking into hospice, but it still isn't keeping me from making plans and traveling.

Hang in there and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. If you're on Facebook feel free to find me there to chat... just search for sherilyn70 as my name.

Thank you! Sadly, it isn't just one spot, but 7. Spread all over the liver. I did the biopsy yesterday, and will find out the results next week. I will still be around for awhile, and will enjoy every minute. I just wish I could spend every last one on a ship.. lol So sorry your not doing well.

Go ahead and enjoy yourself however you want to. Don't worry about what other people may think. On my cruise on the JOTS I crossed paths with a set of older women, twins very obviously, who always dressed exactly alike. I would not have been able to tell them apart. I actually got a kick out of them and was always curious what they were going to be wearing next. I was actually jealous of their wardrobe;)

Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

Rita

She thinks it would be fun, now I'm disappointed. We live 1000 miles apart and rarely get to see each other. I might have to rethink this, we are 55 and 66.

I don't understand why you would be embarrassed. What am I missing? We couldn't give a fig what others think, just don't want to be laughed at. Smiles, yes.

btw, if it makes any difference, I dress very well.

You'll be on Carnival Ecstasy, where you will see people in their bathrobes all over the ship, including the casino and bars, wearing skimpy bikinis to the buffet and downing enough alcohol that they will have trouble seeing (speaking from our experiences on her sister ships Paradise and Inspiration). Wear what you want and have fun. I don't think anybody will even notice you, lol.

I wouldn't do it myself, but I don't have a sister, so it's a moot point;). I won't go out of the house wearing the same colors as DH, either. But it's your vacation and you should do what you want to do. You may be laughed at (or perhaps the drunkards will think they're seeing double!:D), but I imagine that it will be behind your back, for better or for worse, so you won't have to worry about it.

I am sending my wishes for a good diagnosis and hope that you have a fabulous time.:)

I would say if it is something that your sister wants to do then it would be fine. Did you ask her?

Personally I wouldn't be interested in doing it but as far as what everyone else thinks. That doesn't matter.

Of course I ran this by her. She is all for it. The best thing is, she will be flying in from OKC and will have nothing but her undies in her bag. I have supplied everything else. Of course, on the way back, she will be taking an entire wardrobe of clothing, and yes, I will supply a large suitcase for that.

No, not everything will match, but mostly..

Should be a fun thing to do for my "probably" last cruise. She thinks we are in a Porthole cabin... he he, I can't wait to see her face when I open the door to the balcony cabin. I am so excited I can't stand it..

Bah, this will not be your last cruise. I've been on 3 cruises since my diagnosis and I'm still working on when the next one will be (probably my birthday in February next year). You need to keep cruising to stay motivated. :)

  • 1 month later...

I personally think it is sweet. I would be slightly jealous, I wish my sister and I had that kind of relationship. Although we do occasionally dress alike on purpose and we are 49 and 51. If it makes you two happy then who cares. I would love it! IF you do go ahead with it I would love to see pictures. I think it is great and you have much to celebrate. Wear the matching outfits and hold your heads up. People will ask you about it so it will be away to meet others.

We had a terrific time. We were asked a thousand times if we were twins, and we were complimented many, many times.. It was a ton of fun.

HMC is wonderful, and I scored my favorite Cabana, Good old number 10. I will recommend you move the snacks to the table, ants took over our fruit and the good stuff.

Awesome photos! In glad you had a good time. Now go plan some more cruises... I'm at a point i can not travel anymore. I vote we can reverse it but for now is become impossible due to complications with my most recent attempt at radiation on one of the spots.
