Live from 3rd Sailing of Empress of Seas (June 6 - June 11, 2016)

Currently on 3rd sailing of Empress and wanted to post update and/or answer questions for those that are interested. So here goes...

 

- Muster Drill was all on paper, no scanning cards and a little crazy, but not too bad.

 

- AC still doesn't work on 5th Floor, Casino and Guest services is very hot.

 

-Junior Suites are very small, Balcony is smallest I've ever seen.

 

- Dinner was interesting, the menu is completely different from any other ships we've been on. Question for the readers: Is a new menu fleet wide? Or Just empress?

 

- First night's dinner had some old dishes like Lamb Shank. There was no escargot, and the desserts were all new and terrible (almond cake, napolean, italian cream)

 

- Brunch was surpisingly good, free Mimosa or free bloody mary tasted decent. You only get 1 though and the food options were about what you get from chops breakfast in a suite, maybe a little more. No menu, but you could ask for eggs cooked to order. The buffet scrambled eggs were terrible as usual.

No new menu on Majesty, good old Mojo on the first night yesterday.

How's the Birthday Girl? This cruise was all about her birthday, wasn't it? Hope she has a good one. Glad you survived the confusion the other day and were able to be with your friends.

So glad you are able to give us some info while onboard. Thanks! How is the internet speed? Is the outdoor movie screen volume working yet?

 

I wil do a speed test and post picture next reply. I haven't been to movie screen yet. Its rainy because of Tropical Storm Collin

She is happy to be with her friends. She is having a blast at the spa but did comment the front desk staff isn't very friendly.

 

 

 

 

Thanks for keeping us posted! If at all possible, I'd love to see a photo or two of some main dining room menus. It seems like they're doing a limited menu for Empress.

 

I forgot to take a photo last night but ill make it a point to take photos from now on. I will miss night 4 because we are going to chops...

 

From what I remember off the menu from last night is the following:

 

Apps

- French Onion Soup

- Beef Carpaccio

- Capreese Salad

- Shrimp

 

Mains

 

- Branzino

- Lamb Shank

- Chicken Breast

- NY Strip

 

Desserts I listed previously, plus Ice Cream Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry

This is the $17.99 Surf & Stream Voom. I cannot imagine what just the Surf speed is...

 

 

 

 

 

We're on your sailing (sorry we missed you at our cabin crawl this morning!) and signed up for S&S Voom. Signal not strong enough to connect live Periscoping so we've had to abort plans to broadcast. Disappointed. Snapchatting instead.

Trying to come up with a back up plan if we are asked to cancel. RC is currently making calls to those scheduled to sail 6/11. We are sailing 6/25.

3. I've heard the waits for drinks at every bar is excessive. Is it worth getting the royal replenish for my kids (for coffee drinks and virgin daquiris?)

1. No, still don't hear anything

 

2. I have yet to run into any lounges with a band. When I do ill update you.

 

3. Yes, the wait for drinks is pretty bad. Bars are not even that full, the bartenders are just really slow and/or inattentive, never experienced it before. As for value I no idea.

Just FYI, in no way meant as critical:

 

Several ships still don't have the technology to scan your seapass card at muster, and still use a clipboard, cabin list and pencil. ;)

 

"Everyone" knows/knew that the JS cabins on Empress are barely balcony cabins on other ships. I hope that the cabin size and balcony size did not come as a surprise to you.

 

From what I understand, Empress' menus are unique to her. I just hope that it is not some sort of "trial balloon." :eek:

 

Some advice about your upcoming dinner at Chops, based on all of the other posted experiences:

 

When you are seated, smile sweetly at your server and inform him/her that if you are not served and attended to promptly, you will be getting up and leaving.
