Thoughts on Cruise Cash...

I like to pay things in advance before going on the cruise because it is just less I have to payback on the credit card after the cruise. I have been reading online about Cruise Cash and wondered what you guys thought of it. I do plan on making some purchased before we go (Bottomless bubbles, shore excursions and a spa treatment) since I know those are things that I am planning to purchase anyways.

But was just wondering if anyone ever ran into problems purchasing "'Cruise Cash" and not seeing on their S&S as a credit. I read it is a $500 max. Thanks!

I do not like the Cruise Cash idea. Its a "use it or lose it" thing. It would be much better if Carnival just allowed you to pre purchase fully refundable OBC like other cruise lines do.

It's a personal choice which I enjoy having.

Like you, I also like having as much pre paid as possible. Knowing that Cruise Cash is non refundable just means you have to be smart up front when purchasing.

I know my on board account is going to be $700 to $1000, therefore I only purchase $500 in Cruise Cash. I know my TA will give $100 to $150 in OBC. I'll go down to Guest Services early on the last sea day and pay off as much of the balance as possible with cash leaving a $50 to $100 hit to my credit card.

Was considering this as well. Mainly because I always set a budget on board and then wind up not sticking to it. I thought maybe if I use cruise cash in advance whatever I purchase is all we will spend, because we also spend a good bit in the ports. But then I keep thinking good luck with me sticking to just that amount lol.

We have 2 nights at the steak house, and my daughter wants to do the Behind the Scenes. So those will cost me $495. I have bought $500 in cruise cash to cover these. I like the thought of having everything prepaid. I don't know that I would have bought all $500 if we didn't plan on these 3 things, but I would have bought some for spending cash!!! :)

We have purchased cruise cash one time, on our last cruise. Only $200 cause our gratuities were prepaid. We also booked our excursions ahead of time. We knew we would spend that amount and that left very little to go on the credit card. I am booked on a cruise with sister's for Oct. I bought $100 in cruise cash for this cruise. Since there 4 women going from 3 different states we won't book excursions until we get on the ship. For us it is a budgeting issue. It works for us, might not work for others.

Cruise cash works for me. I start putting the money on the cards as soon as I'm paid in full. I usually have no problem going through all that I socked away and generally have no more that $75 to charge.

I'm leaving this Saturday on a 7 day NE/Canada cruise. My excursions and gratuities are already paid for and I have $350 cruise cash to spend onboard. Not thrilled about behind the scenes but I do have the chef's table booked.

I have no worries about losing anything! ;)

I have used cruise cash before, and I love it. Less money to worry about spending there. Also I'm usual pretty frugal so having extra money not spent allows me to really just enjoy and spend a little more freely than I would if it weren't prepaid.

I was wondering the same thing. I also wanted to know can I use my cruise cash to go towards me gratuities?

As long has you have your gratuities charged to you S&S (vs. pre-paying them), then yes, you can use your Cruise Cash to pay them.

Awesome!! And out of all of our cruises we have never done the steakhouse so I think for once we will go. Sounds like cruise cash will come in handy!

Just got back from the Miracle in August and I bought $500 cruise cash and $200 in bar cash. I loved it because EVERYTHING is paid for before hand and you don't have to worry about it! Even though everyone says cruise cash is non refundable, you can get whatever is leftover on the last night at the casino. Just put your card in a machine and transfer over the rest of the cash, then push cash out on to S&S card. Go to the cashier and cash out! That simple. We had our entire cruise paid off months ahead of time! So I loved it.
