Decorating your door

Hotels sometimes have smoking floors and nonsmoking floors or certain rooms only that allow smoking.

You do realize, though, that I am not serious, don't you, about having such decks?

I did, but perhaps some don't remember those days. IMO, there was nothing worse than getting a smoking room with that stale smell still rank on everything.

And even worse was complaining about the smoke seeping under the adjoining door between rooms in a non-smoking section of a hotel and the hotel not doing anything when they were informed about it!

Now a days people can be charged hefty fees if they smoke in a smoke free room.

I love how smoke free environments have become in recent years, both in the states and abroad. Now that is a true blessing iMO. I used to hate entering a hotel and being nearly knocked over by the smoke coming from the bar.

In Australia smoking I banned from all inside areas (public areas) and also some outdoor public spaces. The cruise ships cannot have smoking in the casino when in Aussie waters.:D

If you want to decorate your door, then more power to you. Please don't do it with anything flameable. Fire on a ship is a great danger and your decorations could result in a fire that spreads.

I'm not sure what you gain by doing it, I thought that decorating doors was something that ended after about 1st grade, but if you are traveling with young children you get a pass.

Nice to have your permission. Thank you.

...and you have my permission to NOT decorate.... but only for a limited time.;)

Not sure where you live but here many homes and apartment unit doors (and homes) continue the door decorating tradition well past 1st Grade... especially at Christmas. My stateroom is my home while on board.

People decorate for the holidays. People put wreaths on front doors. Stores decorate windows and doors. Now that it is nearly Christmas, decorations abound. Childish? Juvenile?

Perhaps some people who oppose door decorating on cruise ships would prefer there be no decorating on the ships. That is one thing I am looking forward to seeing during my holiday cruise--all the decorations. I wouldn't want to see decorations all the time, but during the holidays I really enjoy them.

Here is a suggestion. If you prefer not to walk past someone's decorated door, then make sure you have two possible ways to arrive at your door. Don't get stuck far forward or aft where you only have one way to access your door. That way you might be able to avoid walking by a decorated door. Heaven forbid if you find your cabin in between two decorated doors, though!

As if choosing the perfect cabin was not difficult enough.

HAHA! Preach it!!

Recently I saw a door decoration for the dark side, I had to admit I looked twice.

But my thoughts were confirmed when I saw this mob strolling on the promenade.;):)

And was able to get photo evidence.

I recognise the ship, that one is the Death Star of the seas.:D

She is going to do random acts of desecration, oops, I mean decoration ;)

I don't mind seasonal decorations; it's the door fully decorated and a foot on either side used to put giant homage to Travolta, the Smurfs, the family in matching clothing... But, to each his/her own.

LOl,:D

That is a very odd, does the family's clothing match Travolta or the Smurfs, if it is Travolta, which character, Grease, Saturday night fever or Pulp fiction?

I have been following this post for several readings, and it’s like the response to a telemarketer’ survey. Those who are strongly opinionated tend to respond, whether in a negative manner or in a positive manner. Once we book a cruise we begin to the research the ports and potential excursions to make the most of port days. Next, the fun begins, selecting the theme of the cabin door as it relates to the current cruise. The outside cabin door easily supports a magnetic 12 inch square sheet that we decorate for our enjoyment. Cruising without a door decoration is like celebrating Halloween without tasting a single piece of the purchased candy to be given to the trick-or-treaters who ring the doorbell. For us, there are so many traditions that make cruising enjoyable: our cabin door, the new people we meet, and the wonderful sites that we are able to visit that many call home. Wishing all my fellow cruise critics Merry Christmas and an enjoyable next cruise whatever traditions you create.
