Everything.. Norwegian BLISS! - launch April 2018 -

Recommended Posts

Back in August we speculated that the casino will have an enclosed smoking section based on this added wall on the deck plan:

I’m not sure if we’ve noticed this yet, but if you look closely at the far-left side of this rendering of the Skyline bar...

...you’ll see a vertical line between what appears to be two panes of glass...

At least within the renderings, NCL has solved what many consider to be a big flaw with the BA/BA+ ships... and that’s the stale smoke smell lingering throughout 6-7-8 Ocean Place.

Wow, talk about an eye for detail...that is almost imperceptible!

I'm not seeing the panes of glass[emoji21]...or can't figure it out.[emoji848] Can you circle them or put an arrow pointing to them when or if you have time. TIA [emoji4]

Regarding the smoking section, if indeed it's walled off, I hope they ventilate/exhaust the heck out of that place - so it's not like some airport hotboxes I've seen for smokers. Not sure what they may be considering for a door or an entry to that section. That, along with air handling, will be the determinate.

One day... one day... it won't even be a worry - reference Celebrity's totally smoke free casino -- I thought I was in the wrong place when I first experienced that. Didn't smell familiar - what a breath of fresh air!

I was questioning the photo of the slot machines within Skyline... and then realized the deck plans show that the casino extends into Skyline. I guess that makes sense, if Social is the new Nightclub.

I hope the exhaust is better than the Humidor lounge on the Escape. All they have is 2 portable exhausts, and they can't keep up with the cigarette smoke when the room is full of cigarette smokers. The same room on the Regal Princess was almost smoke free, due to the whole ceiling being the exhaust.

I just solved the riddle... the enclosed smoking room will double as the smokehouse for Q.

Resorts World NYC casino here in Queens has been open a little over 6 years and has always been smoke free. 10 million people visit each year and it is the the most profitable casino around here including Atlantic City. A gambler will gamble regardless even if smoking is not allowed. I am an ex-smoker, lung cancer survivor and gambler. I just want to enjoy myself as much as the smokers do gambling. IMO There is no such thing as a smoke free section on the BA & BA+ class ships with the way the casino is laid out. The smoke permeates everywhere including the decks above and below. Please give us non-smokers an enclosed area if you don’t want to stop smoking altogether. Just saying[emoji4].

Oh I hope that’s not the case. Although their wording has me concerned...

The smoking section should be in the enclosed area, and well ventilated.

The atrium is too clean and pretty to be corrupted yet again with that stale smoke odor. Could you imagine boarding a ship with pristine air, with only the aromas of Cocos lofting through 6-7-8 Ocean Place? Bliss!

Booked our trip for February 2019! So excited. Third cruise, 2nd with Norwegian. We did book a B6 room, it looks like there are only 4 of those cabins on the ship. Am I missing something ? Room size 331 sq ft and the balcony is 155 sq ft?

If the non smoking section they’re talking about is like the one on the BA and GA it’s just one hallway that leads from O’Sheehan’s to the casino. Few machines and really none that we like. [emoji57]

Based on the August press release, not the same...

“In a first for Norwegian, the casino will now offer a smoking and a non-smoking casino to cater to all guest preferences.”

Extremely disappointed that there isn't a pool with a retractable roof other than the one for Haven cruisers. IMO - pretty shabby planning if you're building a ship specifically for half the year in Alaska.
. Perhaps you may like Princess or RCCL over NCL then, both are excellent choices and kids will enjoy them as well.

Now I'm trying to figure out the lounges - is the multi-story lounge for viewing for everyone or Haven only?
. 2 story is for Haven. Single story is for everyone else.

Are there going to be any parties similar to what are/were on Breakaway/Getaway?
Presumably, as the ship will want to have some entertainment and fun activities one would assume they will.

I see there isn't anything like the Cirque shows...anything in the way of family entertainment?
Jersey Boys amongst other shows. They had a kids circus last time I sailed the Escape - was a lot of fun for the kids to participate in.

Also - what is the likelihood of being able to use the go-carts/laser tag in Alaska?
I would say you can - they had the waterslides open on my cold Canada sailing with CCL - and we used them. carts and laser tag will be much easier then getting wet.

Both of my previous Alaskan cruises were excursion oriented - now have an 8 year-old whose loves to swim and see shows (such as those on RCI's Oasis class ships). Thanks!
. My 8 and 5 yo are looking forward to the dog excursions, as well as seeing whales and other wild life

I believe this is one of Bliss' 14V48/60CR engines:

...

"Norwegian Bliss has five main engines with total output power of 102,900 hp. Two MAN B&W 14V48/60CR, each with power of 22,520 hp and three MAN B&W 12V48/60CR, each with power of 19,300 hp."

I've been hearing... that they use they old fry oil as bio-fuel. :D

Nice 360 shot outside at Meyer Werft, with the AidaNOVA Block outside the big white building where our Bliss is located...

“Did you know that the base area of the yard (excluding water and parking spaces) is approx 48,7 hectares? And that with 22,3 hectares almost half the area is covered? For Comparison: the Vatican covers about 44 hectares.”

(120 acres, 56 acres under roof)

Interesting facts - and a LOT of area!

The Vehicle Assembly Building is also worth taking a look at. It came to mind since you were talking building size and it's (kinda!) cruise related, since it can easily be seen from Pt. Canaveral.

:D

So the big announcement was that Bliss is going to sail out of NYC beginning November 24, 2019.

Andy also said NCL takes delivery of Bliss in April 19th.

WOW! Thanks Linda. I’d forgotten all about today’s announcement so I’m glad you let us know. I’ve passed it on [emoji6]

I didn’t see that news coming. I know Escape is supposed to go to NYC in the summer for Bermuda cruises. Breakaway is heading to NOLA cause I’m looking at that for 2019. So will the Bliss only do the Escape’s old eastern Caribbean itinerary this year?

Curioser and curioser, as Alice supposedly said. [emoji848]
