RC should put the bare-bones price of the cabin on their website. Do you agree?

Recommended Posts

I check my cruise prices frequently for price drops (even though I also use a monitoring site.} In order to do that I have to have my Math hat on and this should not be the case.

I feel that the price of the cabin without any promotional reductions should appear on the website so as to allow those who are checking for price drops to easily calculate and compare rates.

Last week, I called the D+ desk to inquire about a price drop and was initially told that I was currently booked at a lower rate than the 30% promotion in effect at that time.

I had initially booked this cruise with a casino rate that at the time was better than the current promotion in place with my reduced solo supplement applied.

Because agents only have access to the price of the cabin with the current promotion applied, it took 2 department, 3 people and over an hour to finally get the $405. price reduction that I was entitled to applied to my cruise fare.

Now, I realize that because both the Casino and the C&A D+ desk were involved in this particular booking and that it made securing the price drop more difficult and that this is not the norm, however if we and any agent are able to see the base price of the cabin, it would simplify checking for price drops and would ensure that we are truly getting the best deal. I want to be able to compare apples to apples!

How about you?

Do you think more transparency is needed in your booking?

The base price means nothing when comparing prices, you need the final figure to see any savings

Actually, it does, if you have other reductions. For example: In my case, I get a reduced solo supplement and a C&A balcony discount - RC calculates it as follows:

Base price of the cabin (without any promotional price)

minus C&A balcony (usually prorated based on the promotion or if you are receiving a reduced solo supplement)

minus reduced solo supplement for more than 340 loyalty points

minus any promotional offer

The promotional offer is applied only after other discounts are given and will vary in amount based on the preceeding reductions and the order in which they are applied.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me they are not using a random number generator to set the base rate?

/only partially kidding

OP, I understand your reasoning but the base price probably would turn a lot of cruisers off, especially when they have to do math Royal's way.

I would just be happy to see the currently available promo prices on the select cabin category type screen based on the criteria already entered.

Why must Royal show prices at say, for example, $800, $900, $1000, $1300 for inside, ocean view, balcony and suites but, when you then select a category, the price jumps to say $898, $972, $1178 or $1436???!!! If the lowest price balcony sub-category available is $1178, why can't the category selection screen accurately reflect this?

No. They use Common Core.

Unfortunately, no.

It's their "FROM" prices.

It's because they don't have any of the lowest priced sub-category cabins (say the $1000 balcony) available for the already selected criteria (triple occupancy for example). Yet they list the lowest category from price on the category selection screen. So the only way to see what the actual price difference is between categories is to select, then go back, then select, then go back, and so on.

I can understand the pricing jump from the search screen but not from the category selection screen.

P.S. I know you said don't quote you. I did. I'm sorry. ;):D

If you originally booked at the 30% off sale, the 3, 6, 9, 12 night cruises will produce a savings (33% versus 30%) only if the base price of the cabin has not gone up. On other sailings the current promotion will not result in a savings unless the base cabin price has dropped.

I feel your pain, but why would a business want to spend money (IT costs) on something that will only cost them money? If they were going to do that they might as well just automatically lower your prices and save you the trouble of looking.

It's not typical to give price breaks, especially on something that might have been purchased more than a year ago, so enjoy it while you can.

Many of us are limited to the # of discounts. Yeah, I get e-mails announcing reductions & OBCs, but deep in my brain I know that I'm limited to the balcony discount only. Yet, I proceed to their web site and do mock bookings and the OBC still appears until I get to the final tally--oops by magic, the OBC goes up in smoke. I wish RCL would screen these announcements to those that are eligible.

in FEB i did do the sale but turns out today i saved 125 net and i'm thrilled. thats a pretty big chunk for 2 minutes on the phone. also now i got rid of that annoying OBC message that nothing can be changed unless i call in.
