  1. 1. Should Carnival keep the aft area pools on Conquest Class ships adult only?

    • No I want them to be family friendly
    • Don't care either way

When Carnival sees a decline in the number of 40+ adults & couples along with a drop in alcohol and casino revenue, maybe they will reconsider. It might be too late however as many will be lost to other cruise lines.

I am about to hit my milestone in 6 weeks with Carnival and have seen many changes I have never complained, because I can go with the flow, this one hurts ... I take care of preschool children all day and I need a place to go for a week or two a year with no screaming or kids running around me most cruise lines will follow , so I will start looking at land based vacations.

Yes - the aft pools should remain adults only. As a parent of two wonderful kids I love vacationing with them. This time, however, we are doing an adults only cruise. I was very much looking forward to the aft pool on the Splendor being an adults only area. This vacation is one for me to relax and not have to worry about kids. If other parents would control their children - maybe I'd have a different opinion. But many parents don't keep their kids under control now a days and that's wrong. I am far from perfect and certainly not a perfect parent but my children behave in public and have consequences if they do not. It's pretty bad when we're out and my 11 year old daughter points out kids misbehaving or being rude and wants to know why the parents aren't doing anything about it. My kids have been taught to respect others. That being said - I still would not allow them in the adults only aft pool area. They have plenty of other places to be on the ship - kids only places!

Sorry for the rant. Simply put - my vote is keep the aft pools adults only!

I would never book on any cruise without an adults only pool. The less kids on any ship I'm on the better. I'm only peeved I can't afford Crystal, Silversea, Seabourne etc with the current exchange rate, never got any there.

You may want to check out MSC Divina - the Top 18 Solarium does have a fee, but MSC has been very aggressive with pricing and it may still be cheaper than a Carnival cruise even with the additional charges for the Solarium.

I'm not even a Carnival cruiser, but I just had to chime in. This is a reflection of what is happening in society as a whole. You can't go to a nice restaurant on land without having to hear screaming children who have been dragged out to a venue which is not age-appropriate at a time which is or should be past their bedtime. You invite friends over for drinks, they bring their children - uninvited and unannounced. I am no child hater. I have two nieces who are the light of my life. But I resent the fact that there are no boundaries anymore, and no privileges for children to EARN. Carnival, by implementing this change, you are demonstrating that you are a microcosm of a society gone bat**** crazy. Shame on you. Have some respect for the people who actually pay the bills.

Exactly this. Just this Friday I booked a celebratory (5-years cancer free!) cruise on Liberty for August. I was not happy to see this news today as I was really looking forward to the adult-only areas. We'll keep the booking as it's the only ship that works with port/date requirements, and I was hoping to get at least one milestone cruise with Carnival, but this is disappointing at best. We'll see how this one goes, and I would hate to do it, but this might be it for me and CCL.

Carnival recently announced that the aft pool areas are now family friendly and are no longer designated for adults only. What is your opinion?

The pool AREAS were always family friendly; it was the pools themselves that were adult only. I guess since kids couldn't use the pools they wouldn't want to hang out there, making it a de facto adults area.

That said, I am mildly disappointed / concerned. I am taking my dad on Victory and purposely spent extra for an aft balcony so we could be a quick hop up to the quieter aft pool area / shaded areas. Serenity on Victory doesn't have much shade and overlooking Lido may be loud. I was banking on using that aft pool area, understanding kids could use the area but not the pools.

I guess the lido activities are getting too raunchy and parents have demanded use of another pool.

I think the aft infinity pool on Divina is adults only pool as well without any charge. kids can use the main pool and forward enclosed pool. Divina pricing usually undercuts Carnival by a wide margin too.

Carnival has made it abundantly clear that the Carnival arm of their corporation is all about families and family activities....and that children are welcomed and embraced. All of the latest ships (this decade) are about kids with the slides, rope course, camp Carnival, more "fast food" dining options.

Patrons who choose Carnival are well aware of this business scenario. Subsequently the elimination of adult pools seems to be the logical step in their progression. Also, pricing on Carnival (the lowest of all their lines) is attractive to families and presents them with a great opportunity for a family vacation.

People tend to forget that Carnival isn't a single line cruise choose. Holland America, Princess, Seabourn all offer more adult oriented cruises (Holland America is notable for catering to the over 50 sailor).

I think the grief of this for many is that the "cheap" or "affordable" cruise is no longer the "adult" experience it was in the past. Since there are other offerings that cater to "adult" within the scope of Carnival Corporation I think people are beating a dead horse on this one. It is up to the consumer to choose between lines, to choose what best reflects their life styles.

Oh, come on. Even HAL won't keep the kids out of the hot tubs. The poor crew are terrified that they will receive complaints if they enforce the rules.

Face it, there are no adult options. On any line. With the notable exception of the casinos.

If you booked a cruise on one of these ships thinking they had an adults only area, will they give a refund because they are not providing the service that you expected?

It was NOT an adults only area, so no, I would not expect a refund.

We cruised with NCL last summer, and for a fee they have an adult only area. They had two hot tubs and a bar, and they only sold 50 or 100 passes. We loved it up there and it was worth every penny! They are very hard to get though. NCL is our favorite cruise line.

I have truly enjoyed spending lots of time in Serenity on Pride. That fact that it was child-free was a huge plus, for me. And the crew did a good job of enforcing the rules, too. If this goes away I may need to start cruising on a line that caters more to what their paying customers want. I don't know what the responses have been fleet-wide, but I'm sure there have been a vocal group against this change. Seems most people on this thread are either against the change, or apathetic to it.

The Breakaway and Breakaway plus class ships have a free adults only area called Spice H2O. Never been to the Vibe beach club which you have to pay for. From what I've heard there isn't a lot of difference.

I buy the week long spa pass (18+) which gets me my loungers, pool and hot tub, without the sun and booze (which I don't need).

It WAS an adults only pool but I agree, one will not get a full refund if they booked Early Saver. If not booked Early Saver and prior to final payment date, one can get a full refund for any reason.

Always thought it was poorly designed putting the pizza and burger/hot dogs places in the aft by the adult only pool.

Or was it by design knowing one day it would lead to this?

This is why I loved the Splendor......Deli and Tandoor are in the Aft ....and...no ice cream machine

I was certain that this helped keep the flow of kids at the aft deck to be lower
