Would you rather spend the money to be in the Haven or spend it on another cruise?

I have a bid in on the Haven because so many people rave about it, but I can't help thinking that the money spent on the Haven is not far off from the cost of another cruise. What makes you bid on/book the Haven over booking a longer cruise or another cruise?

Since your bid is in you already committed to paying the extra. Good luck. But if rejected are you willing to play the game of who wants it most. I myself love the negotiating process. But know your limit. You have to know when to say no. There always seems to be someone that wants it more. You are already on a cruise at price you liked to begin with. And if you win your bid I am willing to bet you will cruise again and in the Haven. I myself have never stayed in the Haven or a suite but was upgraded to a mini suite from a balcony last year and because of that upgrade I booked a mini suite guarantee for my upcoming cruise to Alaska. Got lucky again and was issued a forward facing mini on the Sun for 2 weeks:D. Once you go to a higher category it is hard accept to cruise in anything less.

For me it depends on the cruise. There are some cruises on which I am perfectly happy in an inside cabin. Right now we have a young child and another joining us before our next cruise, so I am willing to pay more for the larger room and being able to skip some lines (and the private breakfast room works really well for us). When the kids are a little older I can definitely see going back to either a mini suite or family oceanview depending on the ship. I cruise somewhere between twice a year and every other year depending on the circumstances at the time. I don't see a big value in a Haven room vs. a regular Suite though -- I would not pay extra for Haven on a ship that has both Haven and non-Haven suites.

People who are "time-poor" will take a "trip of a Lifetime" every three years or so, and are willing to pay up for things like the Haven. We are "time-rich" and money-poor, so we would much rather take three or four cruises in an inside cabin and pass on that expensive cabin up top. Life style trade-offs I guess.

Enjoy!

We will never pay the money for that. Even if we were millionaires, it's simply not worth the money to us. We're rarely in our cabin, anyway, so would much rather get another couple of cruises out of the money! (I'm an accountant, BTW).

but imagine if you will billionaire and could charter your fav ship for all your friends. now that would be fun. i know there are mega yachts but something about a huge cruise ship would also be cool.

if i had the money,id def be haven every time because i enjoy bigger cabins and do spent time in mine.

It's not really about the bigger cabin, at least not for us. The smallest suites are not much bigger than standard balcony cabins so it's more for the extras than for the size of the cabin.

i agree wtih the poster who said until you experience the Haven, then you just dont get it.

we are very low maintenance. even in the Haven, we have booked all our own dinners and shows in advance. we never used the concierge for that stuff, and really only used him for the priority disembark perk in ports. and even then it wasnt always him escorting, but often a member of his team. the concierge is the perk we used least.

the butler was awesome. you can have him wait on you hand and foot but we arent comfortable with that nor do we need it. but he is the one who sets the table if you order room service, brings any snacks etc. that you want. our use of the butler was minimal, but we enjoyed the perk. knowign after a hard night of partying and gambling that there would be an awesome cheese plate waiting for us every time was awesome.

then there are those that say "we dont spend much time in teh room anyway". we were once those people. but once you have one of these amazing rooms, you find that you hate to leave it or the courtyard. again, until you've tried it once, which i think everyone should, you really just dont get it.

we also were concerned that it would be all snooty people with money in the Haven. nto the case at all at least in our experience.

I do find it interesting how you already know it is not worth the money to you as you have never experienced it. It may be true but until you experience you can only guess this is how you would feel.

I also see where many people say they are never in their rooms so they get an inside room. Having an inside room is very conducive to not wanting to be in your room. I wouldn't stay in my room a second longer than I need to either if I had an inside (our first cruise was an inside room). Many of the people I have talked to that have the "rarely in my room anyway" idea have not had a higher category room such as a balcony.

To each their own for sure but I find it strange how so many people make their judgment on something they have not experienced.

This whole statement was not meant to single you out as there are many many others that share your exact thoughts. I just wanted to give my perspective on it.

Everyone has their choice. I just priced out our cruise on the Divina.in Nov 2017.

Inside: 769 Balcony: 1,169 Haven 3,019.per person which does not include Port/Taxes.

An Inside is $2,250/person less than the Haven * 2 people = $4,500 for a 7 day cruise or $321/person more per day.

We have a balcony with $100 OBC , Beverage Pkg and Prepaid Gratuities and including Port/Taxes for $1,016/person.

Is it worth $2,000 more per person to have the Haven?

My money, my choice!

Nice try! The Divina is a MSC ship. We are talking about a much more expensive Haven experience on NCL.

Never been in the Haven, but just between you and me, we did sign up for the Yacht Club on MSC's Seaside for next March. (a lot less expensive compared to the Haven);)

Enjoy!

Sorry, I have 3 cruises booked on three different ships. You are correct, the Divina is MSC. However, I did price the Escape which we are going on and those prices are for the Escape.

We have just upgraded (paid full price off our own back) from an inside to Haven 2 bed villa. We could have paid another cruise and a half with the extra we decided to pay.

But, the excitement at the prospect of being in The Haven for the first time is unbelievable.

So yes, we could have got another cruise, but on this occasion we opted for Haven.

It won't be an option again for a few years I fear.

We have never booked the Haven, so I can't say w/o a doubt I would rather two cruises in a balcony as opposed to one cruise in the Haven. I will say that if we want to take a cruise every year, then it will most likely not be in the Haven. That's not to say that if we unexpectedly found ourselves with several thousand $$$ extra...we wouldn't book it in a heartbeat! But then again, I'd be afraid we'd never go back to a balcony room.

I was debating canceling my bid. We are booked in an aft balcony cabin so I'm actually really excited about it, but there are four of us. I only placed one bid on the 2 bedroom family haven suite. I didn't bid on a non-haven suite because we aren't in the cabin that much, and the aft balcony is where I want to be if we're not in the haven.

lol....if I hit the lottery, there's no question... I think I'd book every cruise in the haven or just never leave!

It amuses me when people say "we're rarely in our cabin". First, it is so much more than that. The NCL suite life is so much more than "your digs".

Second, if you'd had our Epic Owners Suite like we did last month you might be whistling a different tune. If I had an inside or outside cabin I'd escape too. I am sure many love it but I am claustrophobic.

Third, it is hard for someone to comment on whether they prefer 2 hamburgers or 1 steak... if they'd never seen or tasted steak! [emoji57]

The whole "lines" thing confuses me. I've never stayed in the Haven, and I've never waited in any line for anything longer than maybe 1 or 2 minutes (including boarding, shows, dining, disembarkation, etc.). Maybe we just have impeccable timing, but it's more likely that the belief that there are lots of long lines for everything is grossly exaggerated.

We have to vacation during peak times because I refuse to pull the kids out of school for vacation. When we go . . . it is packed with people. From the airport, to the buffet, to having to arrive an hour early for shows to get 5 seats together. It is worth it for me to pay extra to arrive at my leisure and get what I want without waiting. It is wonderful to walk past huge lines and just get right in. It costs a lot, but worth it to us.

I love the "Haven is like crack" comparison!! Ours was a short cruise since we had never cruised before and were unsure if we would like it, so 4 nights. It was a last minute trip decision, so I booked it under 45 days. Maybe there were less balconies left? We had three people, so I would have been paying for 2 and 2 in two balconies. In the owners suite, the third person only cost me just over $200 more. When I started looking all of the Haven was sold out other than owners suites with 3 available, so maybe the price was lowered to get them booked? If I price the same cruise, same dates, same room for 2018, it currently is $3000 more than I paid last month. So it may all depend on the dates, availability, and each parties circumstances. Regardless, I'm hooked and looking at longer cruises for this fall, Haven of course.

There is nothing wrong with someone changing ones mind. Sometimes the best deals we make are the ones we do not make. Good luck and have peace of mind.:) You are still cruising.

I'm sure we will. We just need to check ourselves. Before our Haven experience we have a 15 night Seattle/Alaska cruise as filler [emoji3]
