Nieuw Statendam - I'm Booked, Are You?

Recommended Posts

I did a dummy booking on the HAL website, and tried to put a courtesy hold on 1018 (one of the first available single cabins) and it got stolen from underneath me. LOL

Looks like this one is selling pretty good.

Well that's frustrating! :( It's really just those twelve single-occupancy cabins that are selling immediately. There aren't enough to meet demand. I could switch to an interior for the four days and save about $400, even with the single supplement.

Find insurance that allows you to just insure the deposit and still get pre-existing condition coverage.

Thank you the advice. And thanks s well to others who posted about the insurance issue. I will do some searching for such insurance.

The Company which I have used for some time requires that the full cost of the trip be covered within a certain number of days after making the deposit for pre-existing conditions to be covered.

Trying to get a "handle" on possible cost, I made a dummy booking for a flight to Rome for the date this year I would need to leave for a Nieuw Statendam journey next year. Economy was in excess of $2000(!) and Business Class in excess of $7000!! That is significantly more than I paid a couple of years ago for Business Class on Singapore Air from Singapore.

You beat me to it! Sort of. The deck plans are fully available on the HAL website. I cannot detect any difference between NS and Koningsdam. Even the spiral stair between Music Walk and the casino is still there.

I've spotted a few...

New label for the space up at EXC/Crow's Nest

Lincoln Center Stage now showing at the Queen's Lounge

Billboard Onboard space is blank but I'm betting that's an oversight (they wouldn't still be incorporating it into all the Vista/Sig ships if they were ending the partnership)

Less meeting rooms at deck 1 midship. There's a few HUGE category C rooms that are the same size as the Family Staterooms

Neptune Lounge looks quite a bit larger

Sel de Mer is now shown as "Rudi's Sel de Mer"

Culinary Arts Center is now called America's Test Kitchen

I did the same thing looking at air SEA-FCO and FLL-SEA with an extra day before in Rome. The prices are absolutely insane, even if you pick the bottom of the barrel price with a horrible arrangement... still THOUSANDS per person.

Well,I will be a bit of a Debbie Downer.

I just got the new itineraires for this ship and they are "blah" to say the least.

I guess for the Caribbean/Mexico or typical, TA's ( Dec. 5th, really?) it is just fine, but part of the reason we sail HAL is for different itineraries.

I'm taking a different attiude. I can sail the Caribbean/Mexico. Anytime..

this ship will be around for a long time,, so I willl sail those that won''t and that offer unique itineries..

Dear "Debbie Downer",

I have come to accept the ho-hum Caribbean HAL itineraries, if that is what I choose to do. This past Winter's Nieuw Amsterdam's New Year's and the following itinerary had enough variety that I booked them.

I have wanted for a very long time to join a ship on her initial sailings and hoped to do so on the Nieuw Statendam. But, OMG, the potential airfare to fulfill that desire!

I am at the stage of my life that it may well be time to focus more on itinerary rather than really desiring to sail on a HAL vessel, wherever.

I have avoided inaugural sailings after my experience on the NA TA (not the real inaugural but the inaugural TA))

I hope your desire comes to fruition and you have a great time!!!!

Thank you for your good wishes. But, before this desire goes any further, my travel agent and I need to have a discussion about air to FCO. And, I really would like to join her from Venice. Just does not seem reasonable to do at this point in time.

Greetings,

My PCC called me yesterday and informed me that bookings are available for Nieuw Statendam and asked if I wanted to book a cruise. So of course I said yes! I booked a 4-night itinerary that includes Key West and HMC sailing from December 19-23, 2018.

The prices are high, as you might expect. I'm in for nearly $375 per night for an OO-category stateroom. [Those are the single outside cabins. I understand from my PCC that there are exactly the same number as there were on Koningsdam; so that's a disappointment.] So, on a cost-per-day basis, this will be my most expensive cruise ever. After the thrill wears off, I may decide the price is too high. But for now I'm excited about NS!

Did anyone else make a booking on NS yesterday? If so, where are you going and what type of stateroom did you choose?

Happy sailing. :)

375 per day :(

Just a head's up, on the Koningsdam first trip out of a US port it was also a 4 night immediately following the TA. The prices were very high and never came down, partly because it was full of VIP's and travel agents. I believe it also had a wedding party or two, likely d/t the short duration. We were originally on the TA + 4 night, but ended up dropping the 4 night and went to another ship that was more of a typical HAL vibe.

It is hard to say if the NS's first trip out of FLL will bring the same circumstances, but worth considering if you are looking for the usual HAL sailing and/or a price drop.

On another note, I love the idea of a TA out of Rome in December! Any thoughts on if those dates will get pushed back d/t construction delays? Seems a little risky so close to the holidays.

We were on that K-dam 4-day and paid $709 plus $79.50 t&f for a VE. The same cabin on the N.S. 4-day is currently listed at $859 plus $110 t&f. Edited by catl331

Has anyone seen anything like a Christening Cruise for the N.S. like the K-dam had? We really enjoyed that cruise. All I'm seeing on the HAL site is the 5 Dec 2018 Trans-Atlantic to Ft. Lauderdale with 3 Med stops (Malaga, Cartenghena, and Funchal) followed by the Caribbean offerings.

I thought the christening cruises were always in Holland ? If so that would probably put it at Spring/Summer 2019

I thought the ship might sail to Holland first and then TA via Civitavechia.

Do you feel there is something wrong with a December TA ? Just wandering as I thought it'll be fun being close to Christmas and everything ....

I'm sure everyone saw the full complement of itineraries are now posted on the HAL website:

If my PCC didn't have today off (!!) I would have already switched to a 7-night Caribbean itinerary later in the season. I'm loathe to say which until tomorrow, as the largest of the OO-category is still available, and I want it. The price for this sailing is a comparatively frugal $320 per night. Wish me luck!

We're booked for the 18 day cruise on Deck 10 aft inside. We also did the Koningsdam Christening Cruise and Norway Collector voyage and liked being on a new ship. With 9 days at sea, we'll really get to check out the ship. And we love sea days. Now we need to get a roll call started, but there's no slot yet for the Nieuw Statendam.
