Breakaway planned refurbishment??

Recommended Posts

Indeed, she's out of the dry dock now and headed to Copenhagen! We are set to sail this Friday, May 11, can't wait! I just spoke with one of the NCL agents and she did mention some refurbishments on:

- electronics, wifi, decor, carpets, USB ports in cabins by the headboard, updated seating areas in restaurants, to name a few.

She suggested to check Cruise Critic for the updated list.

Keep us posted. We were just on her (the Transatlantic), and the carpets were in URGENT need of replacing. Lots of other repairs needed as well. Will be eager to hear what they've really done.

I also like the idea of adding a mexican specialty eatery. Glad to hear Los Lobos has rave reviews on other ships. Doesn't Breakaway already have a Margaritaville on it? November will be our first time to sail on Breakaway. We have the specialty dining package and if Moderno is still there we will making it one of our choices if it is still available.

We sailed on Breakaway's final trip prior to refurb (the Transatlantic cruise), and while it was delightful, there are lots of improvements needed. The Moderno never seemed terrible busy, but the Margaritaville was a disaster. Not exaggerating, I never saw more than 4 people eating there. MANY times we walked by and saw NO ONE. When they went to a fixed price (rather than a la carte), they eliminated their best chance for business...folks wanting appetizers and margaritas. They basically said, "we only want to serve folks wanting a full meal." For a casual, semi-outdoor spot like that...this was a huge mistake. Yes, they could correct that error and keep the restaurant, but it was looking so tired and run-down...I think a whole new concept would be ideal. I'll vote for Los Lobos in place of Margaritaville.

I look forward to hearing about the changes they made. Again, we enjoyed our trip, but in many ways, this was the most poorly designed ship we've been on. Theater is WAY too small, and only one level to enter on. The "Fat Cats Blues Club" was turned over to a truly TERRIBLE rock cover band. All the game show type events were held in the undersized Atrium, because they had no secondary entertainment space. The casino was too spread out (and the smoke too open to passersby) and the noodle bar was tiny and uninviting. I know they can't address these concerns, but just overall, this ship really needs some help, and if they can improve other things (like fixing the totally trashed mini-golf course) it will help folks overlook some of the big flaws.

we too were on it's TA. I expect the weather had something to do with no one there.

It's empty on the Getaway and Escape too. Not sure what they're attempting to with it, with the cover charge. I'm sure it will gone when the current agreement is up.

Yeah, but we had enough nice days. I would gladly have stopped by for some appetizers and a margherita or two. I just really think making it flat pricing was a mistake.

I'm on Breakaway this summer and you've already convinced me to stay away from M-ville. The land-based versions have always been a disappointment anyway.

I totally agree with you! Not going to waste my money there. Can get a Margharita at any bar on the ship, and can do without Volcano Nachos or one of their burgers also.

Breakaway is now home - her summer home - in Copenhagen. First 2018 Baltics sailing later today.

I'm sailing her in August, can't wait to see trip reports from the people sailing today

Has there ever been a dry dock with less fanfare? I mean almost zero in terms of upgrades/refurb/enhancement ha...

I agree!

These are the first pics we’ve seen....and switching the names of a bar doesn’t really require a dry dock visit! HAHA!

I’m sure they had damage to fix and carpets to replace from the storm flooding they took earlier this year.

Hoping those on the first Baltic cruise right now will be able to report something exciting when they get back!

It's been a couple of days and still nothing. I'm starting to think that there wasn't much changed, since I haven't even heard about linens, mattresses, carpets, etc... If there were changes that were 'wowing' cruisers, I think we'd hear about them.

I’m thinking they are just enjoying their cruise and have been busy touring all the beautiful sites. I don’t think they are thinking they want to immediately report to Cruise Critic. Looking forward to the reviews when they are done with their trips.

I guess the most things were technically inspections and paintings, new carpets and kind like that.

No big changes.

if you like to see many many pictures after the refurb look for oceanliner pictures from last week while the Breakaway docked the first time in Warnemünde Germany

I dont know if it is allowed to set the link directly to the breakaway pictures, but I'm sure you will find them
