Anyone regretted getting Cheers??

Recommended Posts

What does Cheers include exactly? 15 drinks a day? I know alcohol, is that any drink with alcohol? Bottle water too. Milkshakes. What is coffee bar? And soda, is it fountain or cans/bottles? I am really thinking it would be worth it for us on an 8 day cruise; 4 port and 4 sea days. One of our port days is only 7 hours. Another though is until 10 pm. Are there any places to have a sit down breakfast on the ship, not buffet? Or do servers still come though at the buffet and take drink orders?

People will get silly drunk and sick just to justify the $$$.

I'm sure some people do, but to us Cheers is great. I drink A LOT of water, energy drinks when I work out, smoothies, and a few fu fu drinks. They add up quickly too. I have never been silly drunk on a cruise (well one time when returning from the Duval Pub Crawl, nothing to do with the Cheers Program ;p) but feel like I get my money's worth.

Cheers includes 15 alcoholic drinks per day. Any alcohol that they have and you want. Up to $50 value. (1 shot per drink, no doubles, no buckets of beer or tubes included). The bottled water, coffees, milkshakes, sodas, are all included with Cheers - no limit on those. The soda is in cans. They usually will pour it in a glass for you. The coffee bar is sort of like a Starbucks. And dining room is open early on port days for breakfast. On sea days, there will be a brunch with service running until a little later (early afternoon). Check the fun times for your ship's schedule.

No, we did not regret it BUT we learned we do not need it. Even with drinking only an average of 6 drinks a day I feel we got our monies worth but I definitely found myself indulging more than usual. On a typical 7 night cruise, my husband and I usually have a "detox/intermission day" somewhere in the middle, usually a port day where we eat light and don't drink alcohol, or very little. However, with Cheers that day never happened and we were both feeling pretty crappy by day seven. We decided Cheers was fun, but not a necessity and will likely buy it every other cruise- meaning, our Nov 2017 cruise we won't buy it and just keep track of what we spend but then on our March 2018 cruise we will likely get it again for comparison sake.

This is a great thread!

Anyone ever get it with one non drinker? I mean I drink a TON of coffee and virgin frozen drinks and red bull /waters but I don't know if $919 for an 8 day is worth it for us .I agree with most people who say they buy it just to not have to worry about a bill at the end

We got it on our Jan cruise, but probably won't ever get it again. For 5 days it was worth it, but we didn't have our children with us and we both drink more when that's the case. Also, DH is on medicine and isn't supposed to have more than one drink a week (I think).

Now, if they could come up with an 'everything but alcohol' mid level, we'd buy that in an instant. I got a lot of bottled water, specialty coffee and Powerade on that cruise!

I think a non-drinker could definitely make it worth it. The virgin frozen drinks are still around $6 I believe and the little cans of RockStar are $5 a can. Vitamin waters, bottled waters, and speciality coffee and milkshakes all add up quickly also.

If there is an Alchemy Bar on your ship, you can get excellent virgin drinks for around $6 a drink!

That's what I was thinking as well. I just don't know if I personally can drink $50 worth a day or should just do like we usually do, my wife gets the drinks on us card from the casino usually day 1 or 2 and basically she drinks free minus our casino losses for the cruise and I pay for my coffee and virgin drinks

Good thing is we have a couple of months to decide :)

I got it on my cruise last year and pretty much broke even. However I did find myself making sure that I drank more than 6 drinks a day every day to break even. I told myself that I probably wouldn't get Cheers again on my next cruise but after reading a thread about the Alchemy drinks I decided to go ahead and get it. I am leaving from Galveston so I just have to pay for 6 days and I do have $200 in OBC that I will use to pay for it. Since this is my only cruise this year I am going to do it and try all of those yummy drinks.

We got the cheers on our last 5 day cruise and I think broke even... we drank a lot more trying to do so! We are now going on a 7 day cruise and I've decided to get it again. The difference is this time we are willing to except we will not break even. There's no way we can drink that much for 7 days. I am thinking we will loose about 100$ getting it. But.... the convenience of not stressing over tracking our drinking and just the freedom of drinking if we want what ever we want. And being able to try other things (every kind of martini on the ship) is worth it to me. If I didn't get it We would be sticking to the fun ship special and husband would stick to beer. So basically it's like paying for the FTTF, paying more for the convenience and better service lol

Due to health reasons, I regretted it on 2 cruises. The first one I wrote off (5dayer) as crap happens. The second time it happened, I finally realized I can't do it anymore. So we went without on the last cruise and saved a ton of money. We are all different. You have to listen to your body.

Thank you! With all those other options, we will be getting Cheers!

I did not get it on my last cruise, and I don't regret it one bit. The biggest issue for me is that all members of the cabin have to buy it. I understand why that policy exists, but it kills it for me. We would be lucky to get 25% of the value for my girlfriend.

Don't get me wrong, I love alcohol, but I also love the free food. Once I'm full on food, I can only drink so much. One of my favorite alcoholic gems was the pour your own beer station. I forget the brand, but it was pretty good. You could pour your own beer for about $4.50 with no tax or tip. Then we bought a few mixed drinks.

I see tons of posts for why Cheers is worth it but have any of you regretted getting it?

For water purposes, we bought bottled water on shore, and brought brita water bottle filters to fill up while on board. For alcohol, if you can consume the quality or quantity that'll make it worth it, i'd say do it. I'm way passed those days. On our 7 day cruise, I bought a bucket of Fosters on the first day and had one left over after the cruise.

This is my reason for thinking it won't be a good deal for us! I like to eat the food too much! And there's just not enough room to eat everything I want & drink all the time! Where did you find the pour your own beer station?

I forget which level it was on. There was only one though, and it was definitely not on the 9th or 10th floor. I had to walk down a floor or two to get it.

So I just returned from a 5 day. I always overdid cheers in the past with the sugary drinks. This time I asked the bartender what is the best vodka. The casino bar on paradise has grey goose VX. This is $17 per drink. I just added a splash of cranberry and easily got my money's worth everyday. After one day of several drinks I added a rockstar at $5 so those drinks were $22 each. It doesn't take long at those prices. I actually felt much better with the higher quality drinks with minimal sugar.

Then when I added the specialty coffees and soda I came out way ahead. Keep in mind the drinks are a bit overpriced to start with.

Setting a personal budget and doing elementary school math and having kiosks to check your charges/balance is worth an extra $1k expense?

Do people really drink that many sugary non alcoholic drinks in one day? I'd weigh 400 lbs.

Yes, we did. I drank way too much. It was not worth it for us. On our next cruise in March, we are just prepaying for a bar tab.
