grouchomarx Posted August 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Trying to find a winter cruise. Anthem is a nice option in January however, that was the last cruise I did. So I want to know, for those of you who have sailed it twice (or more), did you find it less exciting the second time around? Since the shows are the same, and you've done it all already? Or was it equally awesome? I know, everyone is different just looking for some words of wisdom.
holden0301 Posted August 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We sailed her three times but don't need to do a fourth. I feel like we have seen and done it all. It's only 1.5 hour drive for us to the port for us, so that's the main draw. We enjoyed the ship each time we sailed. Love the IFly, specialty restaurants, Vintages, etc. IFLY is very expensive to do here (outside of Philly), and it's nice that it's free on the ship. We aren't a big fan of cruise ship shows in general, so that doesn't factor into our decision.

Just our personal preference -- not big fans of the mega-ships, just too big for us. Although, glad we tried it. NRayH
grouchomarx Posted August 23, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Thanks for the feedback. We literally did everything on the ship possible except the trapeze/circus thing, and ate in every venue, visited every bar (many times) and saw every show so I'm worried it'll feel like a repeat. But there are so many things I love about the ship it's hard to resist a 12 day sailing in January. We live close to the port so no need for airfare and hotel, which saves a lot of money and hassle. dh464 Posted August 23, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We have done anthem twice, different itineraries. Never felt disappointed or let down We actuality did different things since we were with the kids and other family the second time. As for the shows we only went to see spectro the second time around sat in different seats and the show was better the second time which made us regret not seeing the other shows. There are so many different activities going on all day and night , so many chooses you will not get board. Relaxes its vacation. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
DonnaK Posted August 23, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We've sailed Anthem 3 times (and Quantum once) from NJ. We've seen all the shows multiple times, which does get repetitive, but I would book another cruise on her in a flash if I found a good deal since NJ is our homeport. For us, it's about the ease of traveling, being away from home and just being on a ship that matters.

It's not just the savings on airfare and hotel. Being able to drive pretty much eliminates January weather concerns. We've sailed from Bayonne a couple of times during during heavy snow and while airports were closed and many missed the ship, we made it.
reallyitsmema Posted August 23, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We have sailed Anthem twice, not our favorite ship, we find it crowded and doesn't have good flow. We are actually considering booking it again though, since it is only a 4 hour drive away. We wanted to book Serenade out of Boston, but all the balcony cabins are sold out for this fall and suites are just too expensive. If I can get a good deal on Anthem, we will give it another try. Otherwise, looking at NCL since I just sailed them for the first time and thought it was pretty good.

I enjoyed the second cruise more than the first. The itinerary was an important factor, getting away from the cold/snow in January was also meaningful. Both sailings had calm waters and overall, good weather. The most important factor was the price, cannot find another Anthem sailing for the price paid on either of those cruises. I did cancel a November 2016 Anthem cruise based on my experience earlier that year and knowing I would be sailing on her again 2 months later. When I get the price I want, I will sail Anthem again. Guest maddycat Posted August 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We've sailed on Anthem 3 times and have 3 more cruises booked on her. We're only 45 minutes north of Cape Liberty so it's a very easy drive from our home to the port. No flying for us. We no longer go to see We Will Rock You, The Gift or Spectra's Cabaret. Instead we see the guest headliners and the cover bands. There's plenty of entertainment on the ship.
ATC cruiser Posted August 24, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 24, 2017 If I was only an hour and a half from a cruise port I wouldn't care if it was the SS Minnow I had to sail repeatedly. Sent from my iPad using Forums
loman Posted August 24, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Once was enough for us . Its a short flight to Newark but didn't like the pier and the Atlantic is rougher than the Carribean . We will fly to Fort Lauderdale and go Oasis class from now on. We like that class better and we are currently booked for the Allure .
gaylemh Posted August 24, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 24, 2017 I'm getting ready to sail on Anthem for the 11th time in a couple of weeks. I'm less than an hour from the port, and have done Bermuda, Bahamas, Eastern, Western and Southern itineraries. I sail solo and have met up with some great friends old and new. Every cruise is different depending on who I'm with. Love the Music Hall, and We Will Rock You and Spectra and go see them on every cruise. I have met many others who have been on the ship a lot more times than me.
Life is Good Cruising Posted August 24, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 24, 2017 I still find each and every sailing on Anthem to be exciting and each cruise is a different experience for us. Live 30 mins. from the port, we're looking forward to another great sailing on her for the umpteen time, in 2 weeks :D
csaeroach Posted August 24, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 24, 2017 We will be on the Anthem for our fourth time this Dec and we sailed on Quantum as well which is basically the same ship. We love this class of ship and would book anytime we felt it was a good deal. We don't care about ports anymore the ships have become the destination for us lately, just to get away, be entertained and enjoy the food is basically why we cruise. Anthem has never disappointed us.

gaylemh Posted August 24, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Hi Gayle. When you go to theater for the shows is it better to sit in the balcony or down stairs? For Spectra's in 270, I think you get a better view from the balcony. There is so much going on all over, you can see it better from the balcony. In the theater, I like the section right behind the sound control - downstairs (deck 4) but middle tier. To get these seats you need to go a little earlier. Biotcruisers Posted August 24, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 24, 2017 We only sailed Anthem once! That was more than enough for us. We did not warm to that class of ship at all. Sorry Cheers Steve

pattak619 Posted August 24, 2017 #22 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Jan/18 will be our 3rd time on Anthem .(all in Jan) and would do it next year etc etc. Always found something new whether it on one of the islands or on the ship.
maggie416 Posted August 24, 2017 #23 Share Posted August 24, 2017 Next year will be our third time on The Awesome Anthem. The last 2 times we did the exact itinerary, 12 nights. Next year, 9 nights. We really like that ship. This year was even better because we already knew our favorite spots! Just as exciting even though the shows were the same. Of course we live in Ct. so added bonus is no flying! I know it gets a lot of bad reviews but to each his own & some people are way too picky! hallasm Posted August 24, 2017 #24 Share Posted August 24, 2017 We did Quantum Maiden voyage from Southampton to NJ followed by a Caribbean Quantum Cruise from NJ. Two Anthem cruises - one in Europe and a New England & Canada from NJ - a total of four Quantum Class - looking forward to my next Quantum Class cruise - I really like the ships. SteadyBetty Posted August 24, 2017 #25 Share Posted August 24, 2017 I sailed Anthem twice last year, March (Cruise to No Where) and September (Bermuda). I enjoyed both cruises and want to sail her again. I enjoyed the ship itself with the modern look and sleek design. Plus Bermuda is so beautiful! The shows are okay, but I find myself walking the decks, playing in the casino and listening to music in the venues. And then relaxing on my balcony is bliss.
