So a lot of folks spend a lot of time talking about the y.c. I know, it's pretty cool, exclusive, expensive, and frankly sometimes it comes across a bit snobbish. Sorry, a few posts really do, to a point where the poorer rest of us almost feel like we are in stowage class. Like we are 2nd class citizens cause either y.c. is sold out or frankly we don't have the cash or we chose not to spend the cash on the exclusive y.c.

So, for the vast majority of us not in the Yatch Club I have created our own exclusive group called the Canoe Club. Still on the same water, still the same ports, just cheaper and not as fancy. Good food, same scenery, just a poor man's Yatch club called the canoe club. I'll still bring 2 suites for formal nights on the 7 nighters.

That is all. Hope eggs, or grey pupon in the case, aren't hurreled my way.

We actually saw a couple being escorted by the butler after checking in and as they walked past us the wife had her nose turned up! It was so funny!

In fact, we rarely use the Butler for anything, and we would be fine without a Butler. We preplan our trips. No need for the concierge either.

 

As ships get bigger and more crowded, it is nice not to fight for deck chairs or through crowds at the buffet. It is also nice to have anytime dining at the restaurant. That is about all we are looking for in the YC. Frankly, all passengers should be able entitled to a pleasant dining and pool experience. We certainly do not reserve the Yacht Club to be pretentious. However, if a good deal arises, and we can make our cruise easier why not YC.

I agree with this. YC decision would be based on higher quality of product (cabin, food etc.) rather than the idea of having someone 'work for me' or to lord it over other passengers. I would like to think that attitude is reserved to a minority.

 

However I think the fact there is lots of discussion about the YC is because it is not something everyone gets to experience, and people who aspire to the YC want to know that their hard earned money will be well spent.

So I have a couple canoe club questions. 1. Does the sports bar serve food, and is it complementary? 2. Does anyone have any impressions of the main dining room or the buffet?

3. With classic seating, are you assigned one restaurant for the duration of the cruise or can you, do they, move you around for variety.

Compared to NCLs Haven the Yacht Club is very cheap so for me I see no reason not to book it.

 

We cruise so little so the extra money spent doesn't matter for me.

 

Hopefully your nose won't be turned up too far when passing us plebs en route to board with your butler escort while we wallow in the terminal 'til they deign to allow us embark the steerage levels, SC! ;p

Ah this is wonderful! Sign me up. I've got a suite on the lowly 12th floor aft and a new gown. Now if I can just find a string of canoe novelty lights I'm set. ;p

On my upcoming B2B on the Seaside I have a fantastica balcony cabin the first week and am in the Yacht Club the second week. Do I have to raise my nose up the second week as I'll still be the same person I was on the first week?

Do you even need to ask, Bob? Didn't you get the memo explaining that those of us who choose to sail in YC must adhere to the stereotype?! Just because:

So ............ ONE person, out of - how many who sail YC? - did this, we're all tarred with it!

People mostly sail according to their budget, those who choose YC are no different but there will always be the odd ones who appear to believe that they are better than everyone else!

 

Think the YC is bad then try sailing Cunard!
