Move-over offer questions

Princess would like me to give up my balcony for an ocean view cabin in exchange for a 100% cruise refund in the form of on board credit. On the same sailing I am already booked on. So airfare and hotel arrangements remain the same. (They have already tried to move me to a different cruise -- no. They tried to move me to an inside cabin -- no. Ocean view cabin -- doable.)

I have already paid for excursions, gratuities, beverage package, and internet minutes. Would all of that be refunded to me? What about remaining OBC left at the end of the cruise? It's a significant amount of money. And I would rather have the remainder in my own pocket than floating around in Princess's computer.

The fall back position, of course, is that I stick with the arrangements I chose and paid for months ago. But, if this works well and is as generous as it sounds, I'm fine with a window.

I apologize if these questions have been answered several times already. Nothing came up when I ran a search.

What a great offer!!

What they are giving you is a refundable OBC so you will receive a check for anything that you do not spend a few weeks after the sailing. I will let others tell you how to pull it out in the casino since that's not something that I have done.

Not sure how close your cruise is but you can cancel your gratuities and drink package up until a few days prior to sailing. The drink package is probably 5-7 days and the gratuities is 2 days. I wouldn't do the excursions in case you get locked out of them.

You will get your money back shortly after your sailing so I would grab it quickly if you want it before someone else takes advantage.

Why would you cancel your drinks package, excursions, etc? Leave them in place. Just be sure that the OBC is REFUNDABLE, and you will be getting a nice big check about a month after the cruise!!

I know that some people go a little wild with their on-board spending, thinking about all that "free" OBC. Don't, it is YOUR money!

You don't need to play the casino cash out game if the OBC is refundable. Princess will send you a check.

I think the OP is wondering if the move-over offer includes refunding excursions, beverage package, etc. (making them free as well). If so, I very much doubt it does. I’m almost positive the offer is just for the ticketed cruise fare.

I guess, because I have already paid for the things I would use OBC for, I was wondering what happened to the funds I didn't use? I worded it poorly. I hate to come home to huge bills, so I pay for as much as I can ahead of time.

Thanks for the answers! I'll give Princess a call and make sure the OBC is refundable before agreeing to anything.

THis is the offer we got last summer, except that it was to give up a balcony for an inside on the same cruise. There were no OVs available. We took it. No, our excursions, beverage package, and tips were not refunded. What we did get was about $6000 in REFUNDABLE OBC. In addition, they took all of our non-refundable (shareholder's, FCC OBC) and made that refundable. We were actually on a B2B, and added some excursions which spent a little of the OBC. About 3 weeks after the cruise, I received a check for over $5000.

So what we got refunded was our cruise fare + taxes an government fees. No one was thrilled with the inside, but we viewed it as a great deal.

Thanks' date=' Moki'smommy! That's the offer I got, but with a view cabin.

It's good to know the offer isn't too good to be real.[/quote']

We found out while we were on the cruise that a corporate group wanted to book a block of cabins and needed the two HA cabins nearby....one of which was ours. We met a couple on board who had gotten the same offer and were in the cabin that I'd rejected.

It is a real offer and not a "too good to be true." And my daughter bought into the idea that she could basically do any excursion she desired in exchange for giving up her cabin preference.

My parents got this type of offer last year. Balcony to window-only minisuite for their first cruise. My mom didn't want to take the offer but my dad jumped all over it. They got a huge room and a BUNCH of onboard credit. They hadn't prepaid anything and still got $$ by cheque after they did gratuities, drinks and excursions. My mom still complains about the lack of balcony. My husband, kids and I were not offered the same deal for our inside (haha).

Just received a move over offer:

**Caribbean Princess FREE Cruise Moveover Offer - ACT FAST**

WE ARE EXTENDING A SPECIAL OFFER TO GUESTS BOOKED ON THE JANUARY 27, 2018 CARIBBEAN PRINCESS CRUISE. MOVE TO THE CARIBBEAN PRINCESS 10-DAY PANAMA CANAL DEPARTURE ON 3/08/18,4/01/18 OR LATER AND RECEIVE:

** 100% CRUISE FARE REFUND (AS REFUNDABLE ONBOARD CREDIT) ** AIR CHANGE FEE UP TO $100 PER PERSON ** PRINCESS AIR PROGRAM WILL BE PROTECTED

Would be nice but my parents didn’t get the offer so we can’t take it, but one question, I am assuming if we had taken it we would lose our sip n sail, but what about any prepaid gratuities or excursions? Would we just lose that money?

In one more year when our youngest is out of school, and I can flex more of my vacation time this would be a perfect opportunity, of course if we weren’t cruising with others or they were offered the same.

Does this mean the cruise is overbooked too?

That refundable OBC comes in an envelope that looks like junk mail. Check all your junk mail until the check comes.

The envelope is smallish, the kind with tear off ends.

See, my first offer was to move over to a different cruise. That wouldn't have worked for me. The second offer was to move to an inside cabin, on the same cruise. Again, no. I get too claustrophobic. An ocean view... Yeah, I'll talk.

My understanding is that the pre paid stuff stays pre-paid. You get your cruise fare itself back as a refund check after you get home.

It can mean that the cruise is overbooked or that a type of cabin is overbooked. For example, if they oversold balcony cabins, they can do a move over to another date or try to move people to a lower category....or move people up IF those are available. They will target the move over offer to those in the type of cabin they need. Usually when they are offering the move to a different date, they have oversold the ship. BUT you do have to accept quickly--there are only so many cabins that will get to take them up on the offer. If they hit that number, the next person to call will be told that the offer has expired.

If you have per-paid anything, you can get that money back now, or apply it to the new date if you have chosen one. If you got free gratuities, free beverage package, etc. you can negotiate with the rep on the phone to transfer that to the new cruise.

Yes, overbooked. That's why they do these offers. EVERYONE who pays for a ticket gets a ride. If they're overbooked, they offer an incentive to empty some cabins.

Plus they got the suite benefits and she's complaining??

Window mini suite, not suite. If it was a mini, they didn't get suite benefits. Still a great deal, I've been in one of the window minis and loved it.

Try now. You just might get voice mail...which you would get in the morning. Tonight you'd be closer to the front of the line.

Never wait to call if you are even considering the possibility of taking the offer. They give it in order of the call backs they receive, so if you wait until the next day you may be low on the list and all the offers will be gone. You can always say you've decided against it if and when they call back.

Call Princess direct, all you get here is opinions, 3rd party info and IMO a waste of time. As they say hear it from "the horse's mouth". That is what I'd do.

  • 6 months later...

Got a call yesterday,August 8, from my agent about a move over offer.I had read about it on CC before. We were being offered 100% refundable OBC if we switched our Deluxe Balcony on our August 17 British Isles cruise to an inside cabin.Called her back within minutes and said yes.Called the number at Princess within 5 more minutes, left a message saying I would accept it.My agent and I called repeatedly with no answer.Got a call this morning ,the one time I didnt have my phone on because of a Drs appt. (16 hrs later) saying they got my message, they would call me back.Called again and left a message. Finally get a call from Michelle to tell me I'm too late, but their might be another offer, put me on hold to see if its still available.Gets back on and says,we can give you an obstructed balcony and $1000 on board credit.Well,I told her I could have gotten a better deal than that when I booked.I said its a little disheartening that youve been offered something like that, answered promptly, then pulled away from you.I told her I understood it was first come first served and I had replied pretty quick. She said I had to actually answer the phone when they called or call back and speak to someone.I said,I tried but couldn't get through. When I asked her if their would be guests that responded after me that would get the offer, she said yes, because they called back. She said she called me last nt which she didn't,then proceeded to tell me,"you dont really want an inside cabin for 12 nts anyway".I said Im a little upset with the process and her reasoning and that I would be emailing somone about it,she said thats fine.I understand this is a very busy time for her when they deal with this offer, but was a little dismayed by the attitude. This is my first Princess cruise and am really looking forward to it, I wish now they wouldnt have called in the first place.Anybody have a similar experience or can explain the process?

My understanding of the process is that it is the first people that they actually get thru to. There is no excuse for her to lie about calling you in the evening or to make comments about inside cabins.

They essentially NEVER answer the phone when you call back as they are calling other people and have a dedicated number for the call backs. So you call that number and leave a message....and wait for them to call you. But then you need to answer the call or they will mark it as "no response, call again later."

Sorry that you were unable to take the first phone call when you were at the doc's office. There is no way to say whether the offer would have been available then or not. Bottom line, they moved on to the next person, whether to book the offer or to tell them that it was no longer available you'll never know.

They DO call more people than they need because there will be people who don't respond and people who don't want the offer. Then the inventory control people work thru the cabins and do assignments. The Princess rep is right that there might be another offer depending on how many people responded to the move down. What I'm hearing you say is that you and your agent both tried to be the "early bird" and you still didn't get the worm...and now you wish that you hadn't ever heard of the worm. I'm truly sorry you couldn't grab the offer if you wanted it. But you are no worse off than you were on the day you booked your cruise or the day before the phone call. Many people cruise dozens of times and never see these offers. You might be lucky next time.
