LXA350 Posted April 13, 2018 #76 Share Posted April 13, 2018 Although Celebrity also builds always larger ships the trend seems to be that in the future if you are aiming for itinerary based cruise vacations you will need to focus on Celebrity and if it's more about the ship size / inovation you should go with RCCL. Who knows, maybe the Catpains's Club and C&A programs will fully merge at some point due to that. Nevertheless it would be nice if RCCL will build let's say 5 ships that will be the size between Radiance and Voyager class as replacement of the Vision, Radiance and if not gone earlier, Empress and Majesty, with full focus on itinararies. Such ships should be at maximum tolerance to be able to take over the Radiance itinararies in Alaska and be able to fit in most ports and scenic routes such as the Fjords in Norway etc and be used on following itinararies: 1) In summer, 7 day Alaska one way cruises between Vancouver and Seward 1) The same ship doing Alaska would offer exotic itinararies in the South Pacific during norht american winter, and focus on ports larger ships can't go too 2) Summer itinararies to the Norwegian Fjords up to the Arctic circle and Baltic cruises, where certain ports / Cities are restricted on the amount of cruises passengers that can visit the city at a time, such as Talin, Estonia 2) In winter the ship would do South America Cruises including one way cruises from Brasil / Argentina to Chile etc. 3) Summer cruises going to the British Islands, Scotland and Ireland departing from Amsterdam and or Hamburg 3) In winter, Port driven Caribbean Itinaries visiting ports larger ships can't go too 4) Summer Scenic Mediteranean / Adricatic cruises that visit unike ports such as Kotor in Montenegro, Santorini, Mykonos and other unike Greek Islands 4) During winter exotic cruises from Dubai to India, the Arabain Golf and other places in the Indian Ocean 5) A Ship to be deployed from a port such as Tampa or Baltimore that has size restrictions etc and can replace current Vision / Radiance Class ships deployed there
caribbeanboy Posted April 14, 2018 #77 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Could make sense. When Allure goes for her dry dock in 2020 to Europe, she will continue after her European season on to Australia to arrive there for the summer season.

BillB48 Posted April 14, 2018 #81 Share Posted April 14, 2018 Would Oasis class fit under the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge? Only if they have the ability to lower the stacks as the Oasis and Allure had to do to clear the Great Belt Bridge. Thought I read somewhere on CC that they do not use that feature anymore. The Oasis class has an air draft of 236' and the Verrazano- Narrow Bridge has a navigational clearance of 215'.
Rare Oceansaway17 Posted April 14, 2018 #82 Share Posted April 14, 2018 well if there are two more besides the announced 5 Oasis, I hope they remove the ugly PINK slide. But really, what can Miami or Ft Lauderdale do with 6 ships the size of Oasis since they can't go through the panama canal and under the bridge at the end. crosby99 Posted April 15, 2018 #83 Share Posted April 15, 2018 well if there are two more besides the announced 5 Oasis, I hope they remove the ugly PINK slide. Completely agree. I had hoped it would be a one-of on Harmony but sadly not :(
Tommy3putts Posted April 15, 2018 #84 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We could do an entire separate thread on “What we want to see on future Oasis ships” I’m not a fan of the the slides either, and the current design of the Boardwalk for that matter. Pratique Posted June 14, 2018 #86 Share Posted June 14, 2018 Stx order book I think that is STX's load plan, to deliver 19 ships. Not the same as firm orders?
Extra Kim Posted June 14, 2018 #87 Share Posted June 14, 2018 While the Oasis class is not too wide for the Suez (47m waterline, 60.5m maximum beam versus 77.5m Suezmax), nor too deep (9.3m versus 20.1m Suezmax), she is too high for the power lines across the canal (72m versus 68m Suezmax), though if they take the original Oasis with the retractable funnels (not sure if they continued this on later ships), she might make it. As for the Capes, she wouldn't go around the Horn, just for weather's sake, and Good Hope is a much more pleasant voyage, but the number of fuel stops would require a lot of logistics. Both Oasis and Allure was built in Finland and had to pass under the bridge "Stora bältbron" in Denmark, with the retractable funnels down the ships are 64,75 meter high. darthvadrouw Posted June 14, 2018 #88 Share Posted June 14, 2018 (edited) I think that is STX's load plan, to deliver 19 ships. Not the same as firm orders? No not the same, once again nothing has been confirmed. The caption in the picture says "commandes ET projets". That basically means firm orders and projected ones, so still not confirmed it is just a place holder in case they get the order. There is another article on the mer et marine website (https://www.meretmarine.com/fr/content/stx-france-compte-sortir-au-moins-19-navires-dici-2026) about St Nazaire's orders that was published today that says the following : En 2016 et 2018, STX France a livré à sa filiale Royal Caribbean International deux géants de la classe Oasis, l’Harmony of the Seas et le Symphony of the Seas. Mais l’armateur, comme nous le révélions en mars dernier, compte en plus faire construire deux Oasis supplémentaires, avec comme objectif des entrées en flotte en 2023 et 2026 Roughly translated it says that they delivered Harmony and Symphony, that a 5th ship has been ordered for 2021 and that the cruise line (l'armateur in the article) intend to build an extra 2 ships for 2023 and 2026. Semantics are very important in this article, they once again never confirm that oasis 6 and 7 have been ordered and that they will be built in St Nazaire. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Oasis 6 and Oasis 7 have not been confirmed and Royal are not counting them at the moment in their new ships. Don't get me wrong I would love for them to get built and would appreciate it even more if they were done in St Nazaire. All signs point to this happening (placeholders in the STX calendar, Mer and marine talking about it,....) and it will probably be done. But at the moment they are still negotiating, until an official press release confirms the orders we can only speculate on it.
