Unlimited laundry, only one bag per day???

Upon boarding on a Sunday, we will have spent several days in Alaska (arrive late Tues night, head to Denali Wed AM) and will have laundry to do. W/ three of us, we will probably have 6 pairs of jeans (two pairs each) plus some shirts and socks. Can we do more than one bag, or do we need to split it up to two days' worth?

Also, how late can we turn the laundry in Sunday? Need to see what time we need to be aboard (arrive on the AM train but plan on sightseeing around town (no boat trips, just looking around).

You could pay for the extra bag. Or split it up over several days. Or pack an extra set of clothes to work around this - how dirty do you expect to get in those several days ahead of time in Alaska? Does your ship still have the self-serve laundry if you want another option to get it all done at once without paying a surcharge for the HAL laundry?

"Unlimited" is just that---there are no limits on the number of days when you can send a bag (or a partial bag! :D) or the number of bags per day.

When you board there will be one bag and one invoice in your closet; ask the cabin steward for a supply. You can fill them as you unpack, and leave them on the bed. They will be picked up during turn-down service that night.

We are on the Noordam, no self service laundry. We are taking 3 pairs of jeans. Plan on wearing them twice before washing, one pair maybe three times depending on the weather and our plans on Saturday driving back to Anchorage. One day we are doing an ATV tour but will be in the side by side vehicles so hoping they won't get too dirty/muddy. We are staying at Denali Lakeview inn, so no laundry there before the ship.

We are plus size, so clothes take up more room that thinner folks. If need be we can split it up since we have two sea days before porting.

Thanks for the info. I wouldn't feel bad doing that since we are paying for unlimited, and the plan is to only send out upon arrival and then maybe one other time before we disembark (staying 3 more nights), so probably not more than 4 bags total.

We had just got off a 7 day Princess cruise so when we boarded a HAL ship for a 14 day cruise we had a weeks worth of dirty clothes. We opted for unlimited laundry on HAL, and our steward brought us a very large white laundry bag to put it all in. Probably the size of 4 of their regular bags.

We have usually put out clothes for wash as we leave the room to go to breakfast, but sometimes we do it as we leave for dinner, and the steward takes it when he does the nightly turn down.

We plan on signing up the the unlimited service when on the Koningsdam, as this would be a 10 day cruise. A two week trip.

But, Are there self-serve laundry rooms on the K ?

No laundry on the Noordam? Really?

I can't imagine traveling for over a week without being able to do laundry.

PS: I would send my laundry once I had a reasonable amount to place in the regular, smaller, bags.

I can't imagine sending off my husband's jeans along with any of my lightweight (nylon, lace) tops and undies.

I think it is part of the service specification. Passengers doing laundry are not gambling in the casino, not buying expensive drinks in the bars, etc., And not paying for laundry service. Not every passenger will respond to this part of the service specification positively, but clearly enough do to make it a net positive.

Some lines consider unattended laundry equipment a fire risk. Plus it's a great moneyspinner! Even if it was 1 bag a day you could ask to have the following day's bag that day, depends whether the restriction is in place so as not to overrun the laundry staff when a whole heap of people embark with dirty laundry.

Unlimited laundry is one of the best things on the cruise, whether it is free or something you paid for! (I know, I know, some people will say that we PAID for the "free laundry" by taking all those cruises to get to 4* Mariner, but they don't HAVE to make this a reward, so I consider it to be free!)

You don't have to feel bad about sending any amount out! Enjoy your cruise ... and your freshly laundered clothes!

The laundry bag we had on Nieuw Amsterdam was quite small -- like half a pillowcase size or STTE. You'll probably want to ask for something larger. It does not always come back the next day, but you have a better chance if it is early into the cruise. That was our experience.

It still makes me smile now when I pull on a pair of leggings or t-shirt that still has the ship's laundry tag ironed onto it. Just don't send anything fragile. Not everything comes back the same size it went!!

More and more ships either have no self-service laundries or are eliminating them where they exist. We often take longer cruises (over a month) and simply send out all of our laundry. DW has this crazy idea that she is also on vacation and she has no desire to spend her time in a laundramat :).

I send out the everyday things such as jerseys, causal, slacks, pants, for washing bu I hand wash my delicates. I never send my 'dainties' Takes but a minute to wash and hang the delicates in bath room to dry. I use shampoo and figure if it is mild enough for my hair, it won't hurt my undies.

I don't want those things tossed into a commerical washer with jeans etc and into a dryer. Though we get no charge laundry and dry cleaning, I've been doing that hand wash on the ships for 20 years or more.

My dh's shorts, jeans, chinos, t shirts always went out for either laundry or dry clean

Actually, Jeans should not be washed at all... especially not after wearing it only for 2 days.

We go visit Nature’s Wonders but are destroying that very same nature by our wastefull behaviour.

I use those bags at home but on a ship, the bag will still get tossed into a commercial l washe r and dryer with jeans, t shirts and whatever. The mesh bags are terrfiric for the low cut ladies, 'golf sneaker socks. None get eaten in the washing machine. I got tired of losing socks every laundry day. so started using those bags.
