Pride of America Service Level?

Recommended Posts

Yes the crew is predominantly US citizens, but I wouldn’t say the service is not as good as other ships. It’s just different.

It’s been a few years since we sailed POA, I found our room steward was a bit lazy, but we’ve had other lazy room stewards on non-US flagged ships. The dining staff were amazing, one of the best waiter/assistant waiter pairs we’ve ever had.

I think if you keep in mind that the crew are people too, you won’t be disappointed.

I have heard quite a lot about the Pride of America service not being that good as the crew is made up mostly of U.S. citizens who do not give the same level of service as the other ship crews. True of not?

You can find opinions on both sides of the fence, but it really doesn't matter since the POA is the only game in town when it comes to a Hawaii cruise that does not require multiple sea days to get there and back.

We just left the POA on June 2 2018

We found the crew and all the staff quite accommodating. No one was lazy, Washy Washy Girl ( woman) is the start of friendliness, and goes all the way to Cabin Stewart and wait staff. Every one wanted to please us

My wife and I sailed in March and found the crew competent, friendly and willing to go out of their way to make our cruise a pleasant experience. I can't speak for others but we enjoyed our cruise and would sail POA again.

I’ve heard the same about the US crew poor service and at twice the price of a normal cruise, I don’t need that environment.

So,,,, if you have never been on he ship, how do you know. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

The crew on the POA are wonderful. And really show the Aloha spirit. Far superior to the crew on Celebrity.

Looking forward to our POA cruise in 2020 to celebrate DD2’s graduation! BirdTravels - have you done a review of this ship? I’d love to see it if so. Love your reviews!

We've been twice and I'd go again in a heartbeat. Found the crew to be great. They are certainly more talkative than some crew members, probably because they are mostly native American-English speakers and get cultural references that people not brought up in the states won't get. Since the spa staff are employed by an outside company, there's no change there. There is no casino, so no casino staff. It is a different cruise experience and definitely more expensive than other cruises we've taken, but since we are both still employed, I don't think there's a more island-packed vacation we can get in a week. If I could afford it, I'd go every year.

Going back a few years when NCL had FOUR ships plying the Hawaiian Islands, those cruises used to be some of the least expensive around. We had done an 11-day Hawaiian Islands & Fanning Island cruise on the NCL Wind out of Honolulu for $618 each including taxes/fees AND return airfare out of Los Angeles. Those days are long gone, the POA 7-day run is one of the more expensive cruises nowadays!

Went March of this year and thought it was great. I was nervous about what I had heard about the all American crew but it was a needless concern. Our stateroom attendant was not American and said 70% of the staff was American and the other 30% of the ship staff was other nationalities. He was awesome and so friendly. Land vacations in Hawaii are fun but I thought the POA was a fun way to island hop and would do it again.

We had excellent service and attitudes on our POA cruise. Found most crew very friendly, especially when we found a few NY crew members! We always treat crew with respect- which is more than I can say about some of my fellow cruisers, who treat them like servants.

don't know about now, but yes, that was the impression many got years ago. This doesn't mean it is bad, just not up to what we have all gotten used to on cruises, regardless of the cruise line. Maybe we are all just spoiled, ya think? :o
