WallyNDiane Posted September 20, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2018 I just picked up our travel documents on our Eclipse cruise departing Barcelona going to Italy, Greece and Malta. In the inoculation/health section of the travel documents, there is a comment on getting certification on Yellow Fever vaccinations. It refers to our CDC.org website. Is this a requirement for Americans traveling to Europe?
Husky61 Posted September 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2018 Did the cruise line say it was required?:)
jelayne Posted September 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2018 We have been to Europe many times, land trips and cruises, and never were required to have a vaccination of any kind. We did have to have the Yellow Fever vaccination for a trip to South America a few years ago. After getting it no one ever asked to see the Certificate that we had been vaccinated. WallyNDiane Posted September 20, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted September 20, 2018 Did the cruise line say it was required?:) No, but they said make sure your shots are up to date and talked about a certification for a Yellow Fever cert.

Is this a requirement for Americans traveling to Europe? Call your local/ largest hospital and ask if they have a travel clinic or someone who advises on travel med/ inoculation needs. The CDC site is a great place to start but most large hospitals have travel clinics that are very knowledgeable and up to date on what is needed- not always required but highly recommended Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare markeb Posted September 20, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 20, 2018 From the CDC: "There is no risk of yellow fever in Malta. The government of Malta requires proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. This does not include the US. If you are traveling from a country other than the US, check this list to see if you may be required to get the yellow fever vaccine: Countries with risk of yellow fever virus (YFV) transmission." Do your due diligence, but since the cruise leaves from Spain, and could include passengers from African countries with active yellow fever transmission, my assumption is that's why the statement is there. Spain, Greece, and Italy are not on the high risk country list.
workingtocruise-59 Posted September 20, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2018 I doubt that there is a risk of Yellow Fever in Europe. As I understand some countries demand a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate for those arriving from countries where YF is endemic - currently Africa & some areas of South America. Please check before you travel.

Paulras Posted September 21, 2018 #12 Share Posted September 21, 2018 Some countries (like Malta) require it if you're from a country that has yellow fever. You're not. Here's the CDC info: Yellow Fever There is no risk of yellow fever in Malta. The government of Malta*requires*proof of yellow fever vaccination*only*if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. This does*not*include the US. If you are traveling from a country other than the US, check this list to see if you may be required to get the yellow fever vaccine:Countries with risk of yellow fever virus (YFV) transmission. For more information on recommendations and requirements, seeyellow fever recommendations and requirements for Malta. Your doctor can help you decide if this vaccine is right for you based on your travel plans. Note:*Yellow fever vaccine availability in the United States is currently limited. smtcan Posted September 21, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 21, 2018 When we travelled to Tanzania we asked a travel clinic about yellow fever shots. We were told that they were not recommended for those over sixty-five. We got an exemption letter. Our kids and grandkids got the shots because we were travelling through Kenya which is an affected country. None of us were asked for certificates or exemption letters. We have lived, and travelled extensively, in Europe and have never heard of anyone requiring a yellow fever certificate unless they had come directly from an affected country. G.M.T. Posted September 21, 2018 #15 Share Posted September 21, 2018 It may seem that Europe is a banana republic, whet with all the heat and all the rubbish about Brexit. But surprise surprise, Europe is very civilised, and NO yellow fever jabs are not required, only if you rae coming from an infected area or country.
