Rare jpalbny Posted June 16, 2021 #4577 Share Posted June 16, 2021 Only a little closer. The Atlantic has two sides.
Renmar Posted June 16, 2021 #4578 Share Posted June 16, 2021 I was convinced that by the time we wake up here on the west coast somebody would have figured it out. I could give some hints but I should leave it up to JP to reveal the next hint. Theo
Rare jpalbny Posted June 16, 2021 #4579 Share Posted June 16, 2021 Thanks @Renmar. I'm hoping that my hint above gets us closer to the location. Then I'll drop a few more if needed.

Rare jpalbny Posted June 16, 2021 #4581 Share Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) Right city, wrong Island. Named after a famous 20th century American. Edited June 16, 2021 by jpalbny

Canal archive Posted June 16, 2021 #4583 Share Posted June 16, 2021 How about Pollipel Island near New York, maybe. I know Southampton harbour very well so knew it wasn’t there also no cruise-able rivers. CA
CPT Trips Posted June 16, 2021 #4584 Share Posted June 16, 2021 (edited) Well, I had the wrong city too. More than 80% of Ellis Island in Jersey City. So, Roosevelt Island then? Edited June 16, 2021 by CPT Trips

As Renmar and dogs4fun have said, this is the old, abandoned, smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island. What a cool location this island is! Just a short cable car ride away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. Your standard subway fare works for the cable car. There is a nice park here (Four Freedoms Park) with a monument to FDR, and beautiful views of Manhattan Island. Chris and I visited here in February 2019 with our Australian friend who was visiting NYC. It was a lot of fun - my first time there. And the building was designed by Renwick. Google his name and be prepared to be amazed by the list of buildings he designed. You will probably recognize a few. Now I know why this building is so beautiful. Got the wrong continent.

dogs4fun Posted June 17, 2021 #4589 Share Posted June 17, 2021 It’s a clipper race - I have no idea which one (will leave that to the boating experts). However, they are all starting (or ending) at St. Katherine docks, London.

Canal archive Posted June 17, 2021 #4595 Share Posted June 17, 2021 Got it in one dogs4fun, note to self must try harder, although not taken from there if you look very carefully to the left of the yacht are the ruins of Urquhart Castle we’re on board our hire boat having just passed the hotel boat. We had a week on the Caledonian on our way out the loch was really choppy and trying to cook breakfast on the move was all-nigh impossible with my friend shouting at the lads ‘will you keep this boat still impossible. So your turn dogs4fun!
