Never Sailed on HAL

I'm considering sailing on the Nieuw Statendam when cruising resumes and I'm looking for some help on identifying the smoking areas.  I'm sensitive to smoke and I want to avoid selecting a balcony cabin above a smoking area.   Many other cruise lines allow smoking on the lifeboat deck on either port or starboard sides and I want to avoid that situation.  For the Nieuw Statendam is it true the only smoking areas are in the Sun Bar and in the casino?

Thanks

That's a long tread a couple years old and I did check the last few pages.  I was hoping someone could answer a specific question for a specific ship.

The answer is in the info posted by Essiesmom. The Sea Bar area, and the casino are the only legal smoking areas. There are no cabins above the Sea Bar. The Casino is an internal room with no window that open to the outside. You can't have a balcony above a smoking area...they don't exist. If someone smokes on their balcony, and you get smoke, report it!

It's good to know that you can't have a balcony above a smoking area.  Thank you.  I'm not sure I've ever been on a ship that doesn't have a smoking area on some area of the lifeboat deck.  Holland stated policy also includes:   Note that outdoor smoking areas may be designated as port or starboard, varying by ship.    I wanted to know if they also had any additional smoking areas.  I don't think I've ever been on a ship where there was only 1 outdoor smoking area, even to a non-smoker this seems pretty restrictive so I wanted to confirm the areas on a specific ship.

Again,  your info has been posted here and in the Smoking thread, where all smoking discussions are supposed to be posted. The comment on port or starboard refers to which side the Seaview Bar smoking is on. Sometimes it's in front of the bar (starboard) sometimes not...placed on the port side.

Other than casino and Seaview Bar area, there are no other legal smoking areas on HAL ships. None. Full stop.

Ever since HAL changed their smoking policy, I've never been a ship that has smoking on the lifeboat deck.  My sister is a smoker so I'm very aware of the smoking areas.  We try to get an aft cabin on a higher deck so she just has to walk up one or two flights to the Seaview Bar.

Except the several of these ships listed on the above post were sold.  The information on here is about the Rotterdam that was sold, and so the Rotterdam VII info will be the same as the Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam.

We could hope that Rotterdam VII is smoke free or at the very least no smoking inside the ship.

It must be noted that only a small portion of the Casino allows smoking and that area is fitted with some very efficient exhaust fans to negate the smoke from moving to other areas of the Casino.

We have found this depends a lot on the ship. On some ships it's hard to avoid walking thru the Casino and the smoke can be very noticeable and annoying, other ships you bypass the casino and/or you don't notice the smoke.

And yes, I agree with others, the only other place you get smoke is up on one side of the aft pool deck, which is easy to avoid. Never smelt smoke anywhere else on a HAL ship.

I have read rumors on CC about avoiding the cabins directly under the aft pool deck because sometimes the smoke gets sucked down to the balconies, but I would avoid those from the deck chair scraping noises anyway.

I cannot tell you too much about this ship or smoking, but will say I am an RCCL convertee to HAL.  Went on a 7 nighter Mexico on Eurodam and fell in love with HAL.  Service is top notch, we thought the food was very good, and Tamrand (sp) is worth the fee we went twice.  HAL does draw and older crowd.  I was 54 when I went and it was about my age give about 5 years.
