Neptune suite for Alaska?

Recommended Posts

We did one of the aft-wrap Neptunes on deck 5 of a Vista class ship and it was fantastic!  HUGE balcony and two directional viewing.  Great for any scenic cruise - like Panama Canal and Alaska.

Amen.  The Deck 5 wrap around balconies are fully covered, permit outside dining even in heavy rain, views of both sides of the ship for photographs, and will hold 50 of your good friends.

The perks on HAL’s Neptune Suies are ok but I don’t think they are in line with Celebrity.  Neptune Lounge with concierges to take care of everything, continental breakfast, nice lunch snack it’s, hors d’hoeuvres in the afternoon, etc along with better tea, fresh oj in the morning, coffee machine, etc.

Breakfast in the pinnacle grill (which is nice) on all ships except the Pinnacle Class which is Club Orange.

Most Cub Orange perks.  Free laundry, pressing and dry cleaning.

no supplemental charge on some of the room service items for which the other cabins have to pay.

priority embarkation, preference for disembarkation, priority tendering, etc

I’ve probably forgotten a few things but it gives you an idea.  More details on the HAL site.

Here is a link to the comparison chart that has been posted before: Cruise Ship Rooms - Suites & Staterooms | Holland America

It says Neptune and Pinnacle suites include Premium Bathrobes and Exclusive Tote Bag. Are those just for use during the cruise or to keep as mementos?

Keep the tote bag but leave the bathrobes behind when you disembark the ship.  You can purchase them if you wish to keep them.

Are the bathrobes any different than the ones in the other cabin categories?

I have not noticed any difference in Neptune suites or regular bathrobes just seeing them hanging on the room coat racks.  I don't use them.

Other suite perks include honor bar in the Neptune Lounge.  On Embarkation Day a dining representative should be there to make specialty restaurant reservations.  Corsages will be delivered to your stateroom on the first gala night.  There is an appetizer menu from which you can choose afternoon snacks (I recommend the chicken wings that are not on the menu but you can order.  Save a few in your minibar for a late cold-chicken snack).

Honor bar (not free):

There are snacks and sweets in the Neptune Lounge around 11:00 AM when the breakfast items are removed.  Appetizers arrive around 3:00 PM.  You can fill a plate or two and take items back to your room for munching the rest of the day.

You keep the tote bag.  If you want to bring a bathrobe home you need to pay for it.

The bathrobes are different than the ones in the regular cabins - not waffle and very comfortable IMO. They used to the same as the other cabins but were changed a few years ago.

Of course, the self serve food items may not be available in the near future.

One of the perks we have especially enjoyed in all of our Neptune Suites is that we received the dinner menu in the afternoons and we made our selections. We gave them to the Neptune Lounge concierges and they placed our order. The dinners were always delivered to our suites on time and picked up later.

I've never been disappointed staying in a Neptune on HAL. HAL's suite perks aren't as generous as Celebrity. HAL doesn't include alcohol for suite guests and there is no suites-only restaurant (Club Orange does little to woo me) or suites-only sundeck. However, I usually find HAL's suite pricing to be lower than Celebrity, so I'm ok with the less perks when the pricing is taken into account. We have future cruises booked on both lines. If the pricing and itinerary are the same, I would choose Celebrity.  I think a suite on either line is worth it for Alaska. Mainly because the weather is often so wet and chilly, you'll likely spend more time in your room than on a sunny Caribbean cruise. That was my experience.

We are booked in a Neptune Suite for a September Alaska cruise. This will be our first time in any category higher than a Vista Suite on the Zaandam (which is just a balcony by another name).

One reason the suites on HAL have not been a big draw for us is that the service in all of the cabins is quite nice. Even in an interior room you can order free room service whenever you want it, you get many of the same amenities that the suites offer, and the staff on-board do a wonderful job of not scrimping on good service.

I suspect they will treat it the same way as they do when there is Noro.  The concierge serves it on your plate for you.  I doubt the munchies for breakfast, lunch & 3 pm will be eliminated in the Neptune Lounge.  JMO.

We booked a Neptune suite three years ago for our 7 day Alaska cruise. Our three adult kids went with us, and they shared an inside room to sleep in so our room was Party Central. It worked out wonderfully; especially as there is actually a lot of on board time, comparatively speaking to other cruises. We ate lunch on the veranda and watched the glaciers as we cruised the strait; our suite was right across the hall from the Lounge so we had plenty of snacks, soda, and hot tea. For us it worked wonderfully.
