So i guess folks can stop the back and forth now.  Seems decided for this moment in time that startup will require vaccinations and then move later on to fully open again.

Holy smokes, if this is true then it's the best news I've heard in weeks!!

We have a good idea of what Carnival wants to do, but they still seem to be in negotiations. They shouldn't have a problem getting vaccinated people to cruise. Maybe I'll get another casino offer?

Definitely.  Shouldn't be an issue but I am guessing about 1/3 of people who are booked this year will be forced to cancel when they make the announcement that no children will be able to cruise plus no unvaccinated passengers.  Doubt they will try to resell those cabins if they have to sail with limited capacity but that is just speculation from me.

Logic would say a vaccinated cruise would be allowed a higher capacity than an unvaccinated cruise. Carnival could be $$$ ahead.

the world is ever changing.  I think people need to be aware that things are so fluid.  if I had young kids I would wait until things are more stable, but again, I don't have young kids anymore and its a hard decision to make.

I know many who waited on Disney with young kids until now since the parks are more flexible on masks/ social distancing. etc

Hoping the ones (me) that have a cruise booked with kids under 12 they will allow those kids to make up the 5% of the unvaccinated.  Which would make sense because those cabins are already sold.  If they (me) have to cancel then they have to sell those cabins all over again.  I am not talking about cruises next year, the ones coming up in the next few months till the end of the year.

Curious as to what the % is for kids under 12. Trying to do the math in hopes my 4yr old MAY be allowed to go w negative covid test as part of the 5%. Guess I'm grasping at straws.

I am right there with you!  ☺️

Yes. My guess is they will let it expire but replace it with something with a different name, and fewer, but more permanent restrictions.

The question then becomes if they would have to put those proposed permanent restrictions through the Administrative process, which requires public review before they can go into effect.

When the mask order is rescinded for airports and planes on Sept 13, will proof of vaccination be needed to fly?  Thanks!

What I have heard so far is no, they will not require vaccinations for domestic flights, though international could depend upon the requirements of the final destination nation's requirements. I am getting this info through official channels, so it should be accurate as of now.

Good news!

We are experienced cruisers, but we are taking our first Carnival cruise in Sept.  If they don't require vaccines, we will probably cancel as it makes no sense at this point.  Since kids will be in school by the time we cruise, I'm not sure it will be that much of a problem.

Enjoy!

Kel

Listen to it before you decide. She thinks vaccinated is the way to go .BUT has to work it out with the cdc.

We all know how unbending the cdc can be. Remember carnival is also doing the mock cruises.

Carnival is approved to do simulated cruises. I don't know of anything that says they have to execute them, especially if they require cruisers to be vaccinated. Carnival already requires crew to be vaccinated.

Lol carnival always has kids. And remember lots of teachers are still doing stupid zoom classes. Imo parents will be more inclined than normal to pull kids out. Carnival will have kids.

I don't recall what they did as for as crew procedures, but for passengers didn't they just do a health questionnaire? Seems much less impactful that requiring health documentation and only letting a certain segment of the population (e.g. vaccinated) cruise.

That will open up a lot of cabins due to people having to cancel.  Should help reduce the amount of passengers greatly.

They're plenty of cabins since my they pulled the 8 day sailings in November. Over the last week the roll call for my July 10th sailing on the Horizon is filling up with people that are basically getting basically a free cruise because of the casino offers.

True.  We have small kids - 9, 7, and 1.  We have Disney booked in November and then jumping right on the Mardi Gras for a week.  Can't wait.  Kids are excited.  They have a countdown at home.  We had two cruises cancelled... including our March Mardi Gras.  We felt that it was going to be safe for November so we are sticking with it.  I am confident kids will be able to sail by then.

We are hoping for the same.  We have two cabins booked --- $6200 cruise fare already paid, $1300 in airfare, and over $5000 invested in Disney resort vacation, etc.  Already have a lot of money wrapped up into our November vacation.  I am confident all will be fine by then.  Will be interesting how they will handle the kid situation early on.  Have to figure about 1/4 of the cruise ships is booked with kids in the Summer so there will have to be cuts.

Cruise lines are still required to report noro numbers to the CDC if the threshold is reached is an example. Those numbers are public information. Self-service food options are curtailed. Known cases are quarantined. Cleaning protocols change. Those kind of things.

Lol I just want them to decide and post the rules. I'm good with whatever, I just want to know.

One guy on my roll call was venting yesterday about not knowing anything. He wants carnival to say we dont have to book their excursions .. or yes we do. Families are booked. They need to know vaccine rules. My final payment is due next week and my ta asked and was told no I cant extend it.

Yes, this seems to be very clear that vaccinations will be required.  The people who aren't vaccinated will definitely need to start thinking about other plans.  My husband and I always thought vaccinations might be required, whether we thought it was reasonable or not, so it was just another reason for us to get our vaccinations.

I’m with you too. I have 3 year old twins and we have a cruise booked on MG. It was supposed to be for 1/2022 but we moved it back to 1/2023 because I saw this coming. Hopefully my kids will have a vaccine by that time. But I’m not counting on it.  This is supposed to be their first big family vacation, I’m not leaving them at home.

Yes, this is bad news for families and I feel bad that they will have to make other plans so close to their cruises.  As far as my cruise, it appears that it will be sailing with a lot less passengers now.  Maybe they will open up the cruise and offer specials to get more vaccinated people to replace the unvaccinated.
