Mariner 'vaccination' wristbands

Recommended Posts

I have a radical suggestion. Don’t wear it.

I wore mine but it didn’t bother me in the least. I observed plenty of people on Mariner who eventually cut theirs off. To my knowledge, no crew were “checking” to see if the bracelets were being worn. And if they weren’t being worn, what are they going to do? Throw you off the ship? I still don’t understand what the point of the band is when everyone on the cruise over 12 must be vaccinated. If you’re an adult and you’re on the ship, that alone means you’re vaccinated. Not sure why I need a wristband as well.

It’s free. I was on a b2b last month and a b3b this month. Always free when doing a b2b+. They will also test you for free if you are doing a side to side if it’s on a Royal ship. Not sure if they will test for free if you go to a different cruise line.

They have announced that they'll do tests for free for sister ships, too, like Celebrity.

Unsure what they charge for another, unaffiliated line.

The unvaxed could take it off.

There are people skirting the rules when it comes to covid. Some are trying to use fake vaccination cards. Not sure if this has happened on a cruise, but if people are doing it elsewhere I would think they are doing it for cruises.

If they use counterfeit vaccine cards and they aren't caught they are still considered vaccinated so wearing a the wristband wouldn't matter one way or the other.

A friend sent this from a blog post about the Mariner, October 15 sailing.

Is this for real?  I can't imagine why they would switch from the silicone bands.

Definitely real for Mariner. Just got off her this morning. Hated that bracelet, but left it on when I was outside the room. Luckily, I had a super helpful gal helping me put it on initially, and she strongly suggested leaving it very, very loose. Left it just loose enough to slip off when I was in my cabin.

I was on a B2B2B on Mariner in September. Only the middle cruise used these fabric bracelets.  I took the dangling parts and safety pinned them to the part against the skin, so it was more like a bracelet. I hated dipping it in my food! or knocking myself in the nose when adjusting my glasses.

While at guest services, one lady complained she'd tightened it too much. The agent gently cut it off and gave her a new one.

Funny how people can't stand these on their wrist. I can't stand having to wear a lanyard, like at conferences. So can't please everyone.

I saw a crew member "guard" (I asked why they were there) at the entrance to the casino on Allure, symphony and mariner. Also at Schooner bar and also at the Theater V deck. with a long sleeve shirt, I had to pull up the cuff to show it.

I am confused,  based on this thread, and dates.....am I correct in thinking that RCL is requiring fully vaccinated guests must wear a bracelet? If so, why? If everyone for most part is fully vaccinated, what is the purpose of the bracelet? I know it may be silly, but having just finished two carnival cruises, and leaving Sunday for another...…I am wondering if I may want to change my cruise on RCL in December. Bracelet just seems annoying and I have skin sensitivity issues due to a medical condition, that even my clothes can cause pain. But also I am seeing that as a solo cruiser, I will have to sit solo .

Neoprene bands are back. On allure

I was on the Allure last week and got the blue cloth ones.  So, they must have run out of the silicone ones for that cruise.  It was no big deal.  Just don't tighten it and you can slip it on and off as needed.  My wife tightened hers before realizing you couldn't "untighten" it.  She ended up just cutting it off and tying it to her lanyard about mid-way through the week....  the few times I forgot to put it on, or with it on the lanyard, no one said anything.  We are both fully vaccinated.  I assumed it was for proof of vaccination.  The younger kids didn't have them.

I don't get it, either.  You supposedly have to show the bracelet to get into the couple of vax-only venues (casino, Solarium, Schooner Bar), but with everyone 12+ being vaccinated, it seems pointless.

I don't do jewelry at all -- I plan on carrying mine in a bag with my phone and Kindle.  If they want to see it, I can show it to them.

You will initially be seated solo at dinner, but if you meet like-minded folks during the cruise, you can always request to be seated together. Or if you meet folks on the Roll Call before the cruise, you can link reservations with them and be assigned at the same table.

Silicone.  I was on the same cruise.

I agree with the others.  I'd have a real problem with that ribbon.

We also had the silicone band on Ovation back in August. I had no issues with it.
We were on Oasis last week and got those horrible ribbon bands. Best part is the person who checked us in didn’t know anything about them, so I accidentally made mine too tight. drove me nuts all week. luckily I had some scissors so I trimmed off the ridiculous ends that flopped everywhere.
They do dry quickly once they are wet, but that’s about the only good thing I can say about them.

I was under the impression that if you have a child under 12 in your cabin then your entire cabin is considered unvaccinated even though the adults still have to be vaccinated to board. I'm guessing they don't want those with continuous contact with unvaccinated children being in close contact with the rest of the ship.

The adults are only considered unvax when with the kids.

We were on the Mariner this weekend and had the ribbons. My hubby and daughter tightened theirs and I had to keep reminding them not to let it drag in their food! I didn’t tighten mine at all, instead wrapping the excess around a bangle that I always wear. I was able to remove it at night and before showering. I’d recommend doing that and tucking the excess around a bracelet or watch band.
