Now it appears we will be home for New Year's Day. If Azamara has to cancel our cruise, will they refund the money? We just paid the balance due a couple weeks ago. Why did your flight change so much?

We asked for First Class and it seems the only way Azamara could arrange it was leaving New Year's Eve with a lay-over in London. If flights are not able to fly through UK, they may find another way to fly direct from U.S. It is the waiting that is frustrating. So ready to see South Africa!

Much of this cruise cost is our flight and the post cruise excursions to Chobe and Victoria Falls. So it might get more complicated than that. I hope not. Hi we cancelled our cruise but I just looked to see if United is still flying nonstop from EWR to JNB and they are. Flights are pretty empty going but very full coming back. I think there are only 2 airlines that fly from the US to South Africa, Delta and United. I don’t know how long flights will be able to fly into South Africa. Everything changes daily since the pandemic.
bobmcm Posted December 3, 2021 #33 Share Posted December 3, 2021 I read yesterday that United is proceeding ahead with the plan to add back the non-stop from New York (EWR) to Cape Town this week. Its not every an day flight, but several times per week.

Roel94 Posted December 8, 2021 #40 Share Posted December 8, 2021 I feel sorry for the crew. They have been on that ship since Scotland or Cadiz. This is just more work to keep crew happy while bored. There only so much cleaning and maintain every one can do without guests.
Rare uktog Posted December 8, 2021 #41 Share Posted December 8, 2021 Possibly they won’t be idle, they might try some Med winter itineraries?

It seems a big stretch to try to put those on so quickly. The ship and crew are one thing, but getting any kind of meaningful sales on such short notice would be quite difficult. They could try running the Lisbon -> Barcelona route, but most other likely options would include Canary Islands, and they already have a ship scheduled there. Rabo Posted December 9, 2021 #44 Share Posted December 9, 2021 While all of us wish we were cruising, we have three options to compensate you for these cancellations. Here are your options. Option # 1 | 125% Future Cruise Credit We're providing you with a 125% Future Cruise Credit to book and sail by April 30, 2023. This amount will be based on your total cruise fare paid. And, we're giving you a little extra, knowing that this is such a unique circumstance. We will automatically issue you your Future Cruise Credit by January 12, 2022 via email. So, there's nothing for you to do! Option # 2 | Lift and Shift With Lift and Shift you have the option to keep your cruise vacation plans to the same destination and move your existing booking to a sailing next year within four weeks of your originally scheduled departure. The alternative sailing must be of the same stateroom category, on the same itinerary type and cruise length (+/- one sail night), scheduled within four weeks before or four weeks after the date of the original sailing but in the subsequent year. Just give us or your travel partner a call by December 29, 2021 to move your reservation at the same rate including any promotion you currently have on the booking. If we don't hear from you, we will automatically issue your Future Cruise Credit. To view lift and shift options for your sailing, please visit www.azamara.com/liftshift Option # 3 | 100% Refund Or, if you prefer the lower value in a full refund, we're happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have untilMarch 8, 2022 to request a refund and deactivate your certificate. We will initially send you the 125% Future Cruise Credit Certificate. You have untilMarch 8, 2022 to request a refund. We will then deactivate your certificate. Note: Please know, once we receive your refund request, we unfortunately won't be able to accept an FCC request if you change your mind. To avoid waiting on the phone, click here to submit your request. You can expect to receive your refund 45 days after you submit your request. Please note: If you used a Cruise with Confidence certificate on this sailing, and you request a refund instead, we'll refund any NEW funds paid above the certificate amount, and we'll reinstate your original Cruise with Confidence certificate. 1
bobmcm Posted December 9, 2021 #45 Share Posted December 9, 2021 We booked the 2/20/23 identical cruise on the Journey, using the lift and shift option. Now I have to re-do my post-cruise safari plans in Sabi Sabi and the airfare.

sansterre Posted December 9, 2021 #47 Share Posted December 9, 2021 I must be missing something. Is there an advantage in the "Lift and Shift"? What is the advantage over asking for a refund and then rebooking sometime next year?

You get the lift & shift at the same price as the 2022 - prices for 2023 & 2024 are significantly more expensive

Robb Posted December 10, 2021 #50 Share Posted December 10, 2021 Our March 4,2022 cruise out of S. Africa to Lisbon is one of the cruises cancelled. We have Lifted and Shifted to the same cruise in March 2023. Easy peasy. Got same price and perks. 🥰
