On Allure Now And I Got Covid So Now What?

Recommended Posts

So this is what happened on Monday and this cruise started on Sunday. I started having cold symptoms in the afternoon. I was very tired so I decided to take a nap and deal with it later. Woke up and took the home test kit that I had with me and tested positive. I immediately start packing because I read that they don’t give you very much time to pack. After I was almost finished packing I called medical and told them that I tested positive. They sent someone to test me and it took about an hour for the results to come back. Still positive. They said guest services would call. It took them over an hour to call to explain stuff. I already knew most of what was going to happen because of the info on here.

This was my plan after I had symptoms.

Self test and if positive start packing and then notify medical.

Self test and if negative don’t bother packing but still let medical know I had cold symptoms. The self test could have had a false negative. If I then tested positive I would then start throwing stuff in my luggage.

By the time it was all said and done Monday night they said it was to late to move me and that it would happen at 8:00 am. Ordered breakfast to be delivered between 7:00 - 7:30. That was DH idea. I wanted it between 7:30 - 8:00. I can eat fast if I needed to. They called at 6:45 and were at the door in about 2 minutes. I guess they didn’t get the memo that I didn’t even want to order it for that early so calling even 15 minutes ahead of time was a big no no. 🤣 Just kidding. At that point I just wanted to be moved and be done with it.

I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t have a walk of shame. They let me down. There were no people dressed in the white coveralls with face shields and no fogging behind me like I have seen some pictures and videos. I missed all the fan fare. There was a guy from housekeeping dressed in his usual work clothes. He carried my luggage while I carried some other stuff.

We went into a crew area and took the elevator down to deck 2. Got off and got right back on a different one and went to deck 3. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was a little confused but whatever. He then turned me over to another employee who was dressed in the white coveralls with a hoodie. All the crew have been wearing masks since the restart. My room wasn’t ready yet so we waited in the hall and talked. He thanked me for letting them know I was sick. The dr that called and guest services also thanked me. I’m guessing it’s rare that people will fess up about their symptoms.

Anyway, so suited up guy and I talk in the hallway. He said most people in the covid cabins were crew since they are always being tested. I’m on deck 3 in an ocean view room. Room is like others but I did notice there is no bed skirt and no blankets, etc underneath the bed. There also isn’t any carpet. I’m guessing this was done since these are covid rooms. I have free internet and free movies on tv. I haven’t looked to see what is showing. And so it begins. I have 4 days left on this cruise. DH can order room service or go and get food, but he must eat in the cabin. He will also get tested daily.

I have been on the last 3 cruises and I didn’t leave the ship last week so I know I got it on here. I knew it was a possibility and I’m just glad that I didn’t catch it sooner.

Such a bummer.  Obviously you got it just before you got on the ship.  Hoping you don’t feel too bad.

Actually she is reporting that she has been on the last three sailings so one would have to assume that she picked it up on the ship.

This is my 4th cruise in a row on Allure. I didn’t leave the ship on the last cruise so I know I didn’t catch it in a port. I’m sure I got it on here. Unfortunately there will always be covid on ships.

Glad you were honest. Yesterday, we witnessed two security guards trying to get a passenger to open their door. I suspect that she was trying to lay low with covid and wouldn't let the attendant in the cabin. Your cruise is pretty much ruined either way. I hope you feel better soon and are treated well.

Correct. Y’all type faster than I do. The last cruise was an 8 day so it definitely came from here which I’m not complaining about but just saying what happened.

Sorry to hear that OP.  We have a cruise on the Allure coming up June 11.

Kind of makes me wish our entire group (10 family members spread between WA state and MI) gets covid right now so that we don't run into your situation.  My wife and son just had it last week.

We are all vax'd and boosted but dread two things.  1) Testing positive within the two days of sailing.  This is our biggest concern  2) Getting sick on the ship.  This is lesser concern because we are spread between 4 cabins and at least most of the group could still enjoy the rest of the cruise.

I was on the 8 day and the FB page for that group counted somewhere around 70 positive tests since we've returned home. For such a small sample size, that's a lot of positive tests.

DS is on the next sailing.  I’m suggesting they mask and be extra careful to stay healthy.  Even if they do it’s not guaranteed that won’t catch it.  Hoping they at least get through their cruise. Getting it after would be better timing at least.

I have heard that also. Sucks that so many are testing positive.

Hope you recover quickly and the symptoms aren't too bad.

Wish your report didn't exist, of course, but nice to hear a level-headed, un-opinionated account of the experience.

Interesting about the crew.  Any idea if the ones quaranteened are the actual RCI crew or contractors?  I sometimes wonder if the contractors like in the casino, spa, and entertainers get treated differently?

Sorry this happened and hope all goes as well as it can.

Thanks.

I truly thought it was a cold but wanted to find out for sure.

The real challenge with identifying a specific strain of corona virus using EUA tests (especially at this time of year) is that the predominant cause of wintertime common colds is also a corona virus.

This is my covid room. Nothing fancy but also nothing wrong wth it.

No carpeting and no bed skirt with the usual linens under it.

My location on deck 3. So if anyone wants to break me out just let me know when. 🤣

Phone is considered hazardous waste? Just kidding. Not sure why the cord is red since my other cabins weren't like that.

For lunch I ordered the Royal Burger which is 8 oz prime Wagyu beef, crispy bacon and aged cheddar cheese. I requested extra catsup and some crumbled blue cheese. It came with 2 catsup, a mustard, a mayo, a blue cheese dressing and the crumbled blue cheese. It was good but the patty was thick which made it a tall burger and hard to eat. I don't like them like that so next time I'll slice it in 2 pieces. Didn't order anything to drink since they left me a case of water.

The serving containers are made of something (paper like product) and it says on them it turns to soil in 90 days. I think I'll hoard them and take them home to use in my planters. 🤫  Plastic utensils which I don't have a problem with. It's not like I haven't eaten at a fast food place before.

Hope they aren't expecting me to clean. 😁  I think they leave those in each room for themselves to clean.
