Recommended Posts

we got off harmony may 15 and drove home with 2 others in our car we cruised with.  another couple went also but drove separately.  my husband started having symptoms tues night and i started thurs night. (  the other 4 friends are all good and no illness).  we believe hubby caught it disembarkation day after we left the ship and during our travel home with renting a car and stopping for gas a few times and bucee's was one of the places and it was slammed! i dont feel like we got it from the ship.....i think it was bucee's! lol

On the ship now and been on for three weeks.  Yesterday, during turn-around, as we were going off the ship to immigration (via deck 4) in the terminal (aprox. 10:00am), I saw 30 (est) passengers being escorted off the ship via a gangway on deck one.  All were lugging their luggage.  They were not crew, I recognized several of them from early in the cruise.  These had to be the covid cases that had been in isolation on the ship.  They were being kept away from the regular departing guests,  IMHO.

They call this process "extraction" lol. It was a steady stream of people in my experience (Oasis). There's a small holding room so you don't all see each other at the same time. Groups are released to the vans waiting for them. A member of my party was in this area for a while waiting for their ride and saw dozens of people pass through until they were called down. I was towards the end and overheard a worker saying this was a big extraction so that's what was taking so long. They needed staff to process the regular passengers who needed help with disembarkation. Also to note, there were no problems at the hotel end checking in for covid isolation. The list of recommended hotels are the same ones people tend to choose pre-cruise so we saw several people heading out for the next sailing.

We were a group of 4 on this cruise. One tested positive the day we got home. No symptoms on board other than being tired the last night. One tested positive this morning. Both have congestion, sore throat, and coughing. Glad we made it through the cruise without anyone being sick. Had a great time. This was our 7th cruise since the restart.

We were on Mariner doing a B2B boarded 5/07/22, I tested today and no Covid.  On the ship for 16 nights, very lucky I guess.

For the 'glass 1/2 full' peeps...glad you were part of the 99% that didn't test positive.  For the '1/2 empty' crowd....glad you weren't among the 1% that tested positive.  (Stats for all parties lol).

lol whether it was me or the OP - your statement that "if you tested positive after an 8 day sailing means you most caught it before you boarded" is still misinformed - whether it was meant for me or the OP.     Maybe you can study up on your "maths" with bucfan2!   You "likely" caught it on board.

I noticed that you are attempting to deflect your "likely" comment.    lol

Have a good day now!

You, too:  enjoy your day, also.  I mean that sincerely.  Be safe, be careful.  No one wants to get sick when they don't have to.

I think if RCCL agreed with your opinion about the incubation period, they wouldn't be testing their crew on a regular basis and requiring them to still wear masks.  I've been on 3 ships since mid-Feb to mid-May, and seen the change-over from all masks all the time for passengers, to voluntary.  But, their crew must wear masks.  My conclusion is RCCL still thinks passengers are getting on their ships and bringing the virus with them.

I'm a little confused at your misinterpretation of my phrasing, though.  I think "likely" and "just as easily" are synonymous with "possible".

'Nuff said.

@Tagsalong and @Bead Pirate - Have you been on the Mariner e 8-day Southern Caribbean?  What nights are formal???  I'm coming in a few weeks and trying to map our dinner reservations 🙂

We were on the May 15th MOS cruise. Self-testing positive on day 8 and then being confirmed to have covid by the medical team who then brought us to a deck 2 OV room "THE RED ZONE".  The worst part of the process was complete lack of communication. The each of the 3 meals during our stay came cold and 2+ hours late which was in spite of informing the medical department of my diabetic needs.  It appears only one waiter is able to deliver food to the Red Zone. Also, the medical department is available during limited hours. The only way to get attention is to call 911.

There must be a better way to treat passenger/patients than to literally dump them at a room, close the door and leave with no offer for contact support information. It felt like only one step above a concentration lock down.  There was a reason they never provided a room key!

The first part on your part was good - the second part maybe not so much (especially with so little time left in the cruise). If you want to avoid the concentration camp you seem to imply, don't say anything to the ship and quarantine yourself.

How sad to be treated that way. Yet people still lineup to get on cruise ships right now. Don't understand why take the chance at this time. Wait until a better time.

Have a good day now!

This isn't the first time I've read that the COVID quarantining is miserably mishandled.  All this does is encourage people not to report their symptoms.

I had no complaints about my room service but I was shocked at the lack of medical supervision. When I called the nurse line, the worker answering the phone talked over me the whole time, literally told me I was asymptomatic and "it's just a cold" as I complained about my cough getting more concerning. The guest relations staff also gave conflicting information. I had been given the crew instruction sheet, not the guest instruction sheet, so much of the information was not applicable. It was only through friends also in isolation that I got the right numbers to call. It all just added to the stress.

I was on that sailing and didn't test positive until 5 days later on Friday.  I started  feeling bad that Wed and didn't test positive Wed or Thursday  I didn't go anywhere the Sun and Mon after we got off so had to have gotten it sometime onboard towards the end of the trip I guess.  Who knows  Luckily it's not too bad but it is still stopping me from my Bermuda cruise tomorrow  Still testing positive

Thanks Paula  I booked for Oct 16h.  I started out on that one but changed figuring to keep away from hurricane reason.  Well you know how that worked out. I just have a cough now.  Strange that it took 5 days after my cruise to test positive.  I've been following those FB pages and have to chuckle when people post thinking that they are okay because they tested negative the day they got back  NOT SO!!  Like you posted somewhere this is the way it's going to be for a while or ever

Glad you feel a bit better and have another Mariner booked to Bermuda!  We really love that ship!  There are still folks from our 5/15 cruise testing positive today!  It’s crazy!
