Off Mariner 5.23.2022 - Tested Positive when we got home (but it was a great cruise)

Recommended Posts

Just home this morning after a great 8 day cruise on MOS. There were some COVID issues on board with both staff and passengers, so as we always do in this day and age, we tested when we got unpacked. Wife got a quick positive and I had a negative. We will test again on Friday and see if we can resume participation in "normal" life,

Amazing to me that both being double vaxed and boosted I have had it 3X and now the wife has had it 3X. We wear masks in the hallways and elevators, casino, etc.

Got to hand it to Captain Tobias and team they do a great job always cleaning and communicating. He was just short of begging everyone to wear masks by the last three days of the cruise. The entire staff did a great job (although they were shorthanded due to positive tests). We will give them another chance in about two weeks.

Was just curious to see how many came home with an unexpected present?

Someone posted on your FB group that the capt announced Saturday the rate was around 1%

How can you go back on the ship in 14 days, when one of the health questionaire questions asks have you been in contact with anyone that has had Covid in the last 14 days?

Pretty much assume since you got back from your cruise you didn't call Royal like you suppose to and tell them you now have covid?

Please stay away from your relatives, co-workers and neighbors if you care about their health.

You have both had covid 3 times since being boosted?

Nope, 1st time before vaccine available, 2nd time after first two rounds of Vax, 3rd time after booster.

For her, 1st time before vaccine available, 2nd time after booster and now 3rd time after booster.

Where do they say they are going back in 14 days?

That was the positivity rate of people who felt ill and either called or went to Medical for testing.  Capt. Tobias confirmed several more cases during yesterday afternoon’s announcement.  Who knows how many people were actually walking around with Covid.  Unfortunately, it’s the new era of Covid cruising.

We were on the ABC cruise the week before and I tested positive two days after arriving home.

We drive to the port, so no airline trip involved

Lots of positive cases on both of the past two Quantum Alaska cruises…….Add to that quite a few cases of Noro virus from the cruise that ended today

So far - 1 of our party of 4 had a "unexpected present".  All 4 double vaxed and boosted.  We tested negative the last day of the cruise - all 4 of us.     (Radiance in Alaska 13th - 20th)

Made it home.

State of Utah advised all 4 of us through the mobile phone alerting process that we had been in proximity to someone with a positive result on the 12th or 13th - though all 4 of us got this notification on the 22nd.    Also interesting we all left Utah on the 11th and were in Alaska the night of the 11th and boarded the ship on the 13th.   Maybe someone on the plane?    We are reasonably sure we were not near any Utahns on the 12th or 13th.

2 of our party are in 1 household.  2 in another.    1 person started feeling like they were getting a cold on the 21st - and then after the alert - tested on the 22nd - and was positive.   So far the other person in that household, and the other 2 ppl in the other household are testing negative still as of yesterday- next round of tests tomorrow.

If you tested positive after an 8 day cruise, it is also likely you picked up the virus before you left for the cruise.  It can take up to 14 days to show symptoms.  Do you mask at home when you are in crowded places?  If not, you could have picked it up before you got on the ship.

You can verify this information @healthline and the CDC web site.

Uh thanks?  I have not tested positive at all.

And I have no idea why you would say something like it being likely if I had that I would have acquired it before I left.

If you go and actually read the information on those sites you reference you will see that the incubation period is between 2 and 14 days.   The average being 5 and to take precautions until day 10.

If you were going to apply odds it is not likely at all that had I tested positive after my cruise that my exposure would have been prior.     It would have been likely that the exposure would have been right in the middle of the cruise.    Lol

14 days is at the end of the spectrum.   Not at all the “likely” part of it.

On the ship now and been on for three weeks.  Yesterday, during turn-around, as we were going off the ship to immigration (via deck 4) in the terminal (aprox. 10:00am), I saw 30 (est) passengers being escorted off the ship via a gangway on deck one.  All were lugging their luggage.  They were not crew, I recognized several of them from early in the cruise.  These had to be the covid cases that had been in isolation on the ship.  They were being kept away from the regular departing guests,  IMHO.

If the total was around 30, that's under 1%....wow, safer than on land.   I'll take 100 cruises in exchange for a cold.

Expecting covid on a ship (or anywhere)....kinda like expecting it to be cold in Siberia in the winter...makes ya nervous if it isn't.

Indeed - who knows?

1. People are positive, but have no idea because they are asymptomatic.

2. People have mild symptoms, but brush it off as a cold or something non-Covid

3.People suspect or know they have Covid, but don't want to go to a quarantine cabin and would like to stay in their own, but are afraid if they don't leave they will be reported. (The really stupid result of isolation cabins at this point.)

As summer progresses it will be interesting to see how many outbreaks happen, how cruise ships handle it, and if the news media picks up on it.

I wasn't replying to you; it was just the next post. When I reply to someone I quote them, like you did above.

I did read the information on both those sites before I posted.  It could just as easily be that passengers come on board a cruise ship already incubating the virus.  It's a huge guessing game, and that's why most health related sites advise taking precautions when in crowded places.  I always use Costco as an example:  lots of people with few masks these days.

Most of the world says Maths.   The US is in the minority by using the term Math..........        Cultural education would be a nice class to offer as well.

Thanks brainiac.  I suppose most of the world does 'maths' differently as well.

lol whether it was me or the OP - your statement that "if you tested positive after an 8 day sailing means you most caught it before you boarded" is still misinformed - whether it was meant for me or the OP.     Maybe you can study up on your "maths" with bucfan2!   You "likely" caught it on board.

I noticed that you are attempting to deflect your "likely" comment.    lol

Have a good day now!
