Carefully watching the "New Love Boat" which is filmed aboard the Regal Princess.  Most scenes seem to be filmed in the Sanctuary or other locations which would seem to have limited impact on other guests, but one scene, where the women decide which men will be sent ashore, is filmed right in the center of the ship which affects two decks (in the area where the big screen is).  I am seeing ~25 other passengers in the shot.  The ship appears to be at sea, apparently in the late afternoon.

My point is that if this is indeed a regular cruise that you would expect a lot of other passengers to be on those decks/pools/hot tubs on a nice afternoon in the Mediterranean.   This must have had quite an impact for those on board.

My guess is that the scenes which show very few people outside in the center of the ship were not filmed at a time many people would be there. Sure, access to the part of the upper deck where the cast/crew were would be restricted, but there would be no reason to restrict access to the pool area as anyone there would be too far from the taping to be identifiable.

Here is the picture I was referring to.  It is possible that they filmed this at sunrise when not many people were out and about.  Still, seems strangely empty.

I see what you mean.

Weather looks foggy, so it could have been early that day.

I do notice people in the hot tubs.

I would really want no part of that.  Even if it's minimal filming of me just "in the background" I'm still uncomfortable with that and would not want to be on a tv show.  At least you can op out though, and it's not forced for you to be filmed.  I was once waiting to disembark in the Platinum lounge and they were running a loop of videos from our cruise and I looked up and saw myself doing the champagne waterfall and I was mortified!  I didn't expect it and don't like any attention on me.  It was funny though.

Royal was not a full ship on this cruise, only 15 t0 1600. The ship is big.

I for one did not see any filming going on. A few people mention they

did but crew told them they were filming and if didn't want to be on

film to move away or to leave area. I'm sure some people saw them filming

and it may have stopped them from going or doing something, but I never heard anyone

complaining. I wouldn't of known filming was going on if hadn't read about it.

Quess I was never at a place or time they were.

The schedule changed because of a storm coming so had two overnighters in

Mazatlan and the other Cabo. Mazatlan was very Hot and Humid sure they filmed

at the pools and on the beach. (Where I wasn't)

So, less people on ship those days one (maybe filming then) and maybe did more filming in ports.

My opinion only--filming didn't change this cruise at all. The main change was only 15 to 1600

people on board. The ship felt empty. Had a good cruise and winning in the casino didn't hurt.😊

If I have done the math correctly, you cruise has ended.  Can you report back on what the impact was?

It really was not that bad.  There were maybe 5 or 6 women and their crew.   There were demands for cabin changes at the beginning of the cruise for some passengers that had adjacent decks and felt that they crew was too noisy.

I saw them filming a few times but never saw them trying to directly interact or involve passengers.  They were filming in the Piazza when I boarded, and I saw them filming at the Effy store and Champagne waterfall.  One of the stars participated in a Princess Live production but I didn't see it.  I think it was a magic show.   They kept the filming tight in a small area and didn't really disturb the passengers.

I kept seeing the actors around the ship, probably about 6 times in the elevator, a few times at the buffet and once at the adult pool.   They behaved themselves and spoke in normal tones.   I was relieved that there were no drinks flung in faces, nor was there yelling or fighting.    They were not anything like the Kardashians.  Much more reserved.  I didn't see any attention seeking behavior and I never saw them interacting with other passengers other than their little group.

They were pretty over the top the way they spoke to each other, so I hope for their sake that they were method actors or paid to stay in character.  However, they were very respectful to the other passengers.  They acted like regular passengers in the buffet, and I never saw any demands for special treatment.  Very well behaved.

Overall, it was not the big disruption that I thought it would be and turned out fine.

@Kabuki12

Thanks for the report back and I am glad that it worked out OK.  Hopefully the passengers who requested cabin changes were able to be accommodated or otherwise compensated.

It would be interesting to hear from passengers who have been on board the Ruby when the New Love Boat is being filmed to hear about their experiences.

@Ken the cruiser did a live thread aboard Regal Princess for three weeks in July when filming of the "Real Love Boat" show was taking place. I was on board too (but just two weeks) and commented on the filming nuisance!

Ask them for compensation for the disruption to your cruise.

When I voiced my discontent at the guest relations desk about the disturbance in the Sanctuary due to filming I got half the cost refunded to my OB account.

We were on the Regal for 21 days in July and embarked in Barcelona on the same day they started filming. For the most part, we only saw them occasionally filming scenes when we ate lunch out on the Lido deck in the aft, walking by Alfredos one time, a few times on the promenade deck when we looked down from our balcony, and once in the Piazza. Never did see them up near the pool area or The Sanctuary, but those times were probably on port days when most folks were ashore.

We also saw the "Captain" and his wife play in The Marriage Game, which was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, his wife was not allowed to say exactly where on the ship they made whoopie, but we all had a pretty good idea from the hints! 😂 We also saw the "bartender" in her red coat one time hanging out behind the "Good Spirits at Sea" bar on deck 5, but never saw the "cruise director". Also, as I mentioned earlier, I would imagine a lot of those "at sea" shots you are seeing were taken on the second leg when we were leaving Kotor on our way back out to the Aegean Sea heading for Greece when a helicopter circled the ship for a good 30-45 minutes.

Anyway, that's some of the things I remember from our experiences. But to be honest they never really interfered with any of the events we went to. However, Club 6 was "closed" for the entire cruise, so there may have been a lot of scenes filmed in there. BTW there were anywhere between 2500 and 3200 passengers on each of those 3 legs. So all in all, it was a pretty full ship most of the time.

Thank you!  That was an interesting summary of your experience.

It's probably not early morning because there aren't any books laying on the lounge chairs, yet. LOL!

We were on the Regal in July when they filmed The New Love Boat.  We never received any notice at all.  Some our travel companions were in the background of the opening credits but had no idea they would be there - just discovered when they watched the show.  So I guess you are already ahead of our experience.  That being said - the filming was not intrusive or bothersome.  We could hardly hear any dialog and while sitting by the pool (there were no pool restrictions), it gave us something amusing to watch.  I did hear that one of the lounges was occasionally closed for filming.  There were no cords or wires in the way and there was a very small number of film crew.  It may not be as bad a you imagine.  I hope that's the case for you.
