We've just got off Reflection, and there were zero Apple products. At least earlier in the summer they had some 2017 vintage I-pads! There were some no-brand watches but that's all in the i-lounge..

I always imagined Apple products were provided on a sort of consignment basis from Apple, but apparently not. Celebrity buy the products and resell them just like any other reseller, so post-covid cash is too tight to sink into speculative products. Better to spend it on passenger experience and get people back on board.  Shame, as we would have bought products this year too.

I've not seen any inventory of apple product on any of the ships I've been on.  Sure seems like a revenue miss for Celebrity with people having so much OBC

OT: (sorry) Looks like this is the best place to ask this and you are likely the best person to ask!

I need some educating. I've been wondering for a bit. How is it good for X (and any other line) to sell something and get paid for it in OBC??

Completely hypothetical situation:   There is a $600 gadget (say an Apple) for sale and one buys it using $600 of OBC which was given to them by the cruise line. How is this revenue for them?? I assume Apple gets their money for real.

Showing my ignorance of this sort of thing...thanks in advance!!

ETA: I could have used excursions as an example, it pertains to anything 'purchased' with OBC...

ETA2: I understand it may be the carrot before the horse...an inducement to buy more...but I am still curious...

None of the shops and the casino on Celebrity are concessions and are not owned by Celebrity and pay Celebrity both rental fees as well as commission on sales / revenue.   While I don't know the actual percentages having a fairly good size retail space not generating any sales revenue is a lost opportunity.   There are many ways to convert their OBC to cash and thus if not spent on the ship they have lost the revenue opportunity.

Just my philosophy.

Sorry, I am confused.  None of the shops and casinos are concessions AND are not owned by Celebrity so who owns them?

I was looking to spend OBC on Silhouette in August.

I was told they would have iPads in September, but was not given a date.

If you are from Europe and do not require the latest iPad then you might buy them on board.  As of last week nothing in stock.  Avoiding big taxes is the only attraction as the products never were discounted in my experiences.

I believe that Celebrity owns and operates its own casinos

To my knowledge they are a concession.  I had a problem while onboard and trying to work out between the casino and Customer service was difficult.   The Casino manager told me they were not part of Celebrity so don't have access to the ships accounts

I had transferred some money from my card on a Slot Machine but evidently they had opened in error as we were not yet in intentional waters, and the transfer didn't take place but the credit didn't come back to my account.   It took them an hour to go through their casino records in the back room and finally resolved.  Took 2 days to get back on my celebrity account.

If they don’t spend it there they will spend it somewhere else.   That is why it is sometimes difficult to book a specialty restaurant , or some tours, or it could be why they still have the Art Auctions.

To satisfy my curiosity I just went to the casino and asked who owns it and was told that unlike the shops, the casino is owned and operated by Celebrity.

Thanks... now I'm curious why they told me the opposite.   Maybe to blow me off.  LOL

That's  possible.   I for one never would set foot in the "ART" auction.    On a recent cruises if an current generation apple product was available I would have purchased it aboard but took the cash instead and used it at my local Apple Store.

They are a rip off.    I live near the headquarters of  Park West Galleries that are located in Mi.   There have been numerous complaints and articles about them in the papers and on TV.

If you google them you will find many articles complaining  about them.

the BBB  rates them. D+ and not accredited by them

We visited the gallery out of curiosity.   They have some art on the walls but no prices on them and do not sell out of it.   I have never bought anything from them but asked them about buying back something bought on a cruise and they said they are not in the resale business and the owner would have to sell it thru some other means.   To me that means what they sell eventually ends up in a yard sale as there is no resale market.

When did their BBB rating get upgraded?
