4outof10 Posted November 8, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 8, 2022 I’m heading out very soon to a 11 night cruise on the Norwegian Epic from Haifa to Rome. I’m a solo traveller except… My "travelling companion" (named Mr Mousey D) belongs to my 10 year old godson who is unable to travel at the moment and has asked me to take his friend with me. I have assured him that not only would I look after Mr Mousey D but we'd share our progress on a personal photo blog with him. Does anyone have some good suggestions for places where Mr Mousey D/myself can be photographed which would cheer up a 10 year old boy? We already have a "passport" for him and I'm spending the week trying to find suitable clothing (having no luck with that though). Current ideas are: Gambling on a slot machine / roulette wheel? Enjoying a croissant on the balcony enjoying two-too-many cocktails dancing /karaoke hiding behind the bar (with the staff's consent of course) being photographed with as many staff as I can Enjoying the water slide on the Epic (if there is one) Sunbathing (although I doubt the weather will be good enough - maybe rainbathing?) Enjoying an evening show Propping up the leaning tower of Pisa (not sure how to accomplish this without pipe-cleaners though) Formal night meal (must sort out a bow tie) I’ve already had some fantastic advice so far and if anyone knows how I could somehow convince the captain for a photo then it would be appreciated

Karaboudjan Posted November 8, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 8, 2022 How about hanging out with a towel animal or two? 5
pjr107 Posted November 8, 2022 #5 Share Posted November 8, 2022 I did this for my son years ago and was able to get a picture of Elephant Fitzgerald driving the ship on the bridge. My profile picture is from that cruise. I also brought 3 different size elephants so I could chose who to take based on what we were doing. Swells1 Posted November 8, 2022 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2022 We brought our special friend with us on this past cruise. (He has an active account on the birdie site.) We brought him a beach hat and a sailor’s cap because he wanted to dress appropriately. We also got the cruise director to pose with him.

(although your companion is facing the wrong way) 🙂 Yes, we give our little "companions" a good view, so we see their backs when in our suite. They are positioned looking out. 🙂 One cruises, the stewards do sometimes "use them", either with a towel animal, or something like lying mostly under the covers with a head on the edge of the pillow or such. And for your godson, don't forget to take Mr. Mousey D on any excursions. Mr. M should also be able to enjoy a beach or sailboat ride or whatever. Perhaps Mr. M could meet the Captain at some welcoming event? ANYTHING you do like this will be thoroughly enjoyed, I'm sure! There was someone on CC a few years ago (forgot the name) whose avitar was a porthole, with a couple of "friends" sitting on the bottom surface of the porthole, and - of course - looking *out*! Our longest-term traveling "companion" is Moosie (a really tiny stuffed... moose, about 3 inches high). Alas, in Milan, when I was suddenly in hospital, Moosie got lost in the bed linens, and it was surprising how upset we were when packing up several days later. GOOD NEWS: A couple of weeks later, the hotel notified us that Moosie had been found in the middle of a huge batch of clean linens, and only a bit the worse for wear. Fortunately, they FedEx'd him to us just in time for him to join us on our cruise to Alaska, where he really, REALLY enjoyed those spectacular views! FlyerTalk occasionally has a thread where some airline employee takes a "found" friend to its "family", and they tend to get all sorts of cute photos on the plane and in the lounges, etc. It's all good fun! bookbabe Posted November 9, 2022 #15 Share Posted November 9, 2022 What kind of sense of humour does your godson have? Could Mr M “get up to no good” on one of the days? I know my nephew would have loved pics of his stuffies gambling, drinking, eating too much junk food, etc when he was that age. 😉 Or maybe my nephew is just weird…
rbxlady Posted November 9, 2022 #16 Share Posted November 9, 2022 My late mom used to cruise on NCL with my dad, and she always had "Beary" traveling with them. My mom had a thing for bears, but Beary was the special one. One of my kids has Beary's brother-from-another-mother, who looks the same but has dark brown fur. Anyway, she always took cute pictures of Beary doing silly stuff and would e-mail them out to us kids (then adults) every couple of days in her trip reports. She once made it look like he was lounging in the in-cabin jacuzzi (obviously there was no water in it). She caught him trying to break into the cabin safe, hanging from the rod in the closet, trying on a robe, etc. The cabin steward would pose him with the towel animals, too. Those are probably some of my fondest memories of my mom, and I wish I still had those e-mails, but thank you for reminding me of this and making me smile 🙂 1

Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted November 9, 2022 #19 Share Posted November 9, 2022 I traveled with flat stanley for my Godson one cruise. He got the biggest kick of Flat Stanley with the welcome sign to each island. This isn't my picture, but just so you get the idea. I also made a passport stamp up for each port. It was a giant PIA but I love my Godson so there isn't anything I wouldn't do. I ended up making a video set to caribbean music and they played it for the class. Did I mention PIA? But I'd do it again tomorrow.
Rare BermudaBound2014 Posted November 9, 2022 #20 Share Posted November 9, 2022 (edited) On a side note, when I read the title of this thread I thought you were traveling with someone who identified as a cat so I'm happy I was able to provide some useful information about flat stanley 🙂 Edited November 9, 2022 by BermudaBound2014

Rare Essiesmom Posted November 9, 2022 #22 Share Posted November 9, 2022 I travel with a small doll, where the Essie in my username comes from…Her first trip was to Iceland in 2003. First cruise was Greece 2005. She has been on about 50 cruises. We took a Flat Stanley on a cruise, as well as a bear someone else wanted to travel. She buried both Stanley and the bear in the sand at Half Moon Cay. She has her own life vest, inner tube, bathing suit. If you have a Build a Bear shop nearby, check out outfits there. Some craft stores sell clothes for dolls and bears. Essie also has a collection of tshirt souvenirs. The first one came from Santorini… She has a substance abuse problem…beer, preferably imported. It started in Iceland. She also likes the casino…. EM 2
