Can you still get a hole punched in the sign & sail card?

I'll be on Getaway next week and in the past, have always asked Guest Services to hole-punch the card for me so I can wear it on a lanyard. I thought I read somewhere that they don't do that anymore -- something about a chip on the card making it a no-go. Is that true? Thanks!

Yes, it is correct.  You can not get a hole punched into your card.

Buy a clear sleeve that can be attached to your lanyard.  Now that the cards are basically RFID's, holes are out.

Thanks for the info. I do have one of those clear sleeves, and it's mighty hard to get the card in and out of it. Do the new cards work from inside the sleeve? The old ones had to be swiped...at security, the restaurants, and...IIRC, inserted to open your cabin door. Is there no corner where I could punch a hole myself? 🙄

It was suggested to me to get an ID badge holder with a thumb slot, like this one, so you can slide the card out easily.

If the card is in the sleeve you can still use it in the sleeve to enter your cabin and to check into resultants.  The new system is to lay it on a reader. We recently sailed on breakaway and ask to punch a hole. they did no refuse just said it wasn’t a good idea and explained why.

We found out you can't punch holes the "almost" expensive way.

Bought kiddo the Arcade package and went to play the "green games" (included in his package). He had his and my lanyard (holding it for me when I went to the restroom).

Well - I came back from the restroom and did not realize he was using my card to play games. Important to note that I DID NOT have the arcade package (just him and my husband). Kiddo played for an hour before I realized he was using my card. I asked him why and he said his "stopped working". Concierge said it was a recent change to the cards.

That was a 129$ lesson. Concierge was apologetic but couldn't remove the charges - but gave us 129$ casino credit 😀 (arcade games are under the casino department). Ended up giving that money right back to NCL anyways, but had fun at the "adult arcade" for a few hours!

Warmest, Amy

No hole punches on ncl in November but Msc had prepunched cards available. Maybe ncl will learn there is a safe area on the card.

Did you have an RFID room key, or one that you inserted into the door?

NCL RFID-based keys have an antenna loop that runs around the edge of the card for power and to transmit the ID.

They can pre-punch their cards because they are not RFID. There is no electronics in the card - just a dumb pice of plastic.

Maybe MSC will move into the current century with their key management system someday.

they sell lanyards in the gift shop for I think was $10 US that has a sleeve to put it in

That's what I had to do

You can make (DIY) your own lanyards for far less the $10 -

Instead of a neck leash consider a clip to clip on to your waist (belt band)

Suggest a clip with teeth and spring action to secure onto said waist.

I use a Retractable Key Back clipped to my belt -

There are other modification that can be made inexpensively.

In any event DO NOT PUNCH holes in the HALOGRAM IMAGE !

I just got off the Getaway don't punch your card as it will stop working. I punched mine because I brought a punch with me. Card wouldn't work had to get new card with a warning that I should not try and punch card.
