Casinos gone?

Why doesn't Crystal run its own casinos? If I remember correctly, all of the dealers had other jobs on the ship. There wasn't a separate casino crew. Owning a casino is like a license to print money. The house always wins. There are only a handful of machines and tables on these ships. It's not complicated.

They did before Genting bought them and took it over.


The dealers didn't have other jobs.  You might have seen some escort guests on tours since they could put in for that.

 

I know everyone has an opinion but the only one that counts is what Crystal has planned.

That wasn't my recollection. I thought some of the dealers had other duties on the ship.

 

Regardless, what other use of the space is going to bring in as much additional revenue as a casino?

 

It's a mistake to erase that part of the Crystal experience. As I said in a previous post, the casino is a memorable part of the evening experience. I'd hate to see it go. It was special on formal nights. It was a great outpost for socializing and meeting other guests.

That's not how it worked. This was their only job no different than those who work in the stores.  That's their job and their hours vary each day depending on times at sea and times in port. There are some days when they work very long hours and other days when they work less.

 

There are others who share your view and others who do not.

 

'm not saying whether it is a good or bad idea to keep or not keep the casino and I certainly have no idea about the financials. I do have my own opinion but in the end what I think won't change the plans.

 

I wasn't being flippant but I know people have lots of views on this but in the end Crystal has likely decided. I also think that is true of many things over the years. There were programs that went away and some didn't care while others did.

Could be their plan going forward. Why not have a dealer who also can be a tender operator, a waiter, a tour guide, etc... There is too much reliance on "how things used to be..."

I a not sure why you think someone in the casino needs to perform other positions other than the casino. 

 

Anyway, none of this will change Crystal's plans whatever they are.

Many spaces on a cruise ship are not used by everyone. I hope they bring in a cassino. I would never use it but then I would never use a dance host, take a computer class, play bridge or sit in the library however I don't wish for their demise.

Efficiency. Dealers work only on non-port nights, and only 4-6 hours per day.

I think you are now talking about different skill sets and also some issues such as when you say waiters I would not think a casino would want their employees in that role for a number of reasons.  In fact, I am not sure if they would want them in any role other than the casino but that is above my pay grade.

 

Anyway, we don't know what the final decision is on this and what the reason(s) were.

 

Crystal has been adept at putting people in all sorts of rolls as they made adjustments including inclusive and open dining whether that was introducing junior waiters, moving folks who use to mainly be on the lido deck to other areas, moving waiters around to other venues, utilizing some members of other departments such as housekeeping to escort guests to tables just to name a few. So I am thinking if there were considerations such as efficiency/allocation of staff that would have already been considered.

 

Regardless, I am sure the decisions have been made on this so we can all offer suggestions but it won't change anything.

Oh my gosh, this exactly.  Anyone who thinks casino employees running a table game could also double dip as, say, a server in a dining room has never come within 10 feet of a table at a casino.  Once word got out every sharp in the world would be cruising Crystal and making a very handsome rate of return.

I just took another look at the Crystal website.

 

If I was a betting person (no pun intended) logic says there will not be a casino.  If there was one would think it will be listed. I have to think if there was a casino it would be shown somewhere. So, I would take the odds of no casino.

 

Maybe it will be open space for now where people can sit and enjoy conversation.  Maybe down the road it will be used for some other purpose.

 

We shall see or is it time will tell.

Keith, casino staff did have a couple other duties.  They ran the bingo games.  They greeted guests on embarkation day.  They worked checking in guests at the terminals on embarkation day.  Nothing major, but they did help out.  You already mentioned escorting tours.  Best, Craig

My two chips:

 

Crystal wants casinos on their ships as they are 1)revenue producing and 2)there is a segment of the established clientele that more than slightly desires this amenity.

 

I think the hold-up on an announcement comes down to working out a deal with a franchisee/operator that works for both parties and that may be a little more complicated than I initially thought.

 

From Crystal's POV however, they don't have to have this nailed down in time for the inaugurals.  Those spaces on the ships are just sitting empty now.  Throw a little furniture in there in the meantime and roll the slots and tables in when the deal gets inked(no, not the easiest way to do it, but just another on a long list of items new management is working thru.)

BTW, the casinos on Silversea when Manfredi owned it were operated by Casinos Austria.  I fear that's what we have to look forward to if NC does have casinos.

So did Caesars at sea. My boyfriend ran them until the contract ran out.

Wasted space with no windows IMO. There are already many public areas for reading or visiting with other guests- the vastly underused Palm Court comes to mind, and there is a designated bridge lounge already.
