Have you ever NOT had a roll call thread for your cruise?

Just curious if anyone has been on a sailing and not had a roll call thread for it, or not had anyone reply to one that you started? We find it odd that none had been started for Navigator OTS 10-16-2023, so we started one. Are there just a lot more CC members that prefer to lurk, than post? Thoughts please?

I have been keeping an eye on a roll call for a Freedom May 1st cruise, but haven't seen anything. I thought it was likely because it was a short cruise.

Roll calls have been getting smaller and smaller over last few years , I think some of them went to Facebook. Only a couple of responses to last couple that I started.

We are sailing on Quantum on July 31st and there's not one for that date.

We were on a 35 night P&O cruise over Xmas. I know people are less likely to do a roll call on P&O rather than RCI, but we thought there would be some interest...only about 5 of us! Got on the ship and found the FB group had over 150 members!...but I don't do FB!

I've had a few were there was no roll call so I created and people came.  Sometimes it's just a matter of no one taking the initiative to start.

I agree. I participate in both, and the social media platform seems much more active for roll calls than this site.

I think most have moved to FB.  I belong to several for upcoming sailings and they all have 200+ people.

I was wondering about that.  I started one for August 18, 2023 Alaska cruise and finally one other post with a question, which I responded to, but know reply.  Maybe they found answers on FB.  I don’t use it either yet, but I am considering.

I didn't know they even still had the roll call threads here on CC... I often head the FB groups for our cruises and they usually have upwards of 800-1000 folks in them. I love CC and have been here many years, but it's just a lot easier/more colorful to host groups over there where you can have photo albums, events, etc.!

Another thing is the demise of the Meet and Mingle party hosted by the ship.  Another Covid casualty that RCI is happy not to restart.  😉

I think reason is not only Covid.

You are saying that you do not read or post, so you do not see that meetings are organized by  groups too.

Cost.  Gifts, putting aside a lounge, putting out snacks and coffee, and taking up time by an officer and food service crew members for the event.  

 

There are sooo many cost cutting things going on with RCI right now, this is just one of many.

Perhaps it is just the brand.  Viking seems to have many, many posters here, as well as Princess and Cunard, all of which I also sail.

 

RC appeals mainly to a younger, more family-focused crowd, and those passengers are probably much more media savvy and happy with diverse social media postings.  

 

BTW, I do not do FB (or other sites) either, and I will certainly die happy and not caring that I was ever on it (them), and I am quite sure I will have missed nothing.  After fifty years of cruising, actually being on board a ship is the only thing that really matters, not what anyone "posts."

I've been on a few cruises that had "Roll Calls" but did not participate.  Sometimes, the people in the "Roll Calls" aren't a match for me and/or my wife.  Not that they are bad people or anything like that, just not a match for us.  We do like "Roll Calls" that have "Slot Pulls" in them, however.  We would also like to do Pub/Bar crawls.  Haven't done that with a group yet, just our own little party of 4 - 6.
