Special events requiring special outfits?

They had a "champagne " waterfall during the W&G night on Sky last month.

They have one listed on the first "formal night" of out Alaska cruise also. But no specific "theme" of dress is listed, such as "white and gold" other than it falls on the first "formal night". OP was asking for costumes or dress themes, so I was just trying to find those. Did they have any '70's or 80's nights?

The key word in your question is "require."

Even "special" events such as a white night or other themed event do not require one to have special clothing to participate.

If you want to dress specially for an event, fine. But if not, just as fine.

Good point caribill! We've always been able to participate in these events even if we hadn't brought outfits. It's just fun to be prepared, especially for the kiddos!

Hey all! First time Princess cruiser here. Thank you all so much for all the awesome info so far!

We're booked on the 10 day Panama Canal on the Ruby, and I'm wondering if there are any events that require special clothing or costumes? I know we have two formal nights, but I'm wondering more things like White Night or 80s Night on Carnival, or Pirate Night on Disney. Is there anything like this that we should plan for? It sounds like Camp Discovery has a few things like PJ parties, etc? We'll have our two DDs with us, 10 and 14, and just want to make sure we are prepared so we can all participate in any fun activities that happen!

Thank you all so much for your help!

Since you have kids, you might want to check out the below thread with Camp Discovery experiences:

They recently had some 80's themed cruises.  Pre-Covid, the CD staff would put on a Sock Hop event a couple times in one evening.  They used to have themed parties on the open deck in warm regions, but it seems like they just want to blast the guests with over-amplified sound in the Piazza these days.

On a recent 18 day cruise on Sapphire, the third formal night was listed as White and Gold night.

There was information about it in the many pages of pre cruise bumf..but many people had not found it by the number wearing white/gold !!!

That only goes to show that most people couldn't care less about it.

Or, didn't know about it in advance, and therefore didn't pack accordingly.

True…there are so many pages of information many might not have found/seen it.

People do pick what things that they like to get involved with and dressing up for a free cocktail isn't one of them from what I've seen.

Maybe I misunderstood..thought it was anything white /gold, not necessarily formal wear.

Think it’s more likely you have to plough through pages to find the notice in the first place.

I'm one of those who will choose to be in costume, in a theme or in formal attire every chance I get! I saw that the Love Boat gold and white theme dance is on the schedule for my next cruise and I'll be packing accordingly. I might even go with a 70s look since that is the Love Boat era! Just call me Julie

We just bring our normal clothing & don't get involved with wearing anything special for any events, should we care to attend.

Don’t blame you.

Sad to say we don’t attend much. We’re pretty anti social really.

I’m booked on the Regal Princess, May 20 sailing, British Isles. Princess just sent me an email saying the 2nd formal night is a white and gold party and feel free to wear white and gold attire, “Love Boat” party in the piazza celebration.

Princess seem determined to keep pushing the Love Boat theme, despite only Americans over 50 having any idea what the programme was about.

If you feel the need to get involved in the Princess activities then by all means bring the white and gold clothing to blend in with all the other people.

DW and i just had this convo this morning.  41 yo; we have never seen the love boat.   we've heard of it.   realizing we will be on the cruise with adults 20-40 years older than us.   looking forward to a life lesson, early bed/dinner times, repeated stories and good times.

Totally understand!  Those young people like to eat at 5:30 and get to their cabins by 8:00.  Us old folks are the ones keeping the bars open and the casino hopping til the wee hours.  We realize that there will be a few youngsters like yourselves onboard, so we’ll try to keep it quiet after 10:00.

Just kidding! (Not kidding lol).  Have a great time on your cruise!
